I watched my 101 Dalmatians DVD last night and I really liked the new transfer. It looked so cllean and neat. The new Disney logo at the beginning did not bother me much. What I did not like was the logo on the back of the dvd case.

The features were good and plentiful IMO. Some of the games were pretty lame (Such as the fun with languages game). I was surprised to see all those trailers.

On a side note, did anyone try the "puppy profiler" game?

I did. I was matched with a poodle. I'm not sure I agree with that as I'm not particularly fond of that breed, except it's nice they don't shed. :)

:?: Just curious, does anybody know why Wal-Mart didn't have 50 extra Movie Rewards points with 101 Dalmations?

Maybe because they had a CD? :?

Don't they usually do the 50 DMR points with Disney DVDs that don't have any other side-gifts.

I can't believe it's out! I'm so looking forward to it! Digitally restored quality, all those special features, deleted songs, interactive games, holy schism! I so can't wait to check it out! I really hope I get it in my Easter basket!

Drawken wrote:I read about 101 Dalmatians having the new logo on the review here at UltimateDisney and I was a bit shocked. I then watched the film, saw the logo, and personally didn't mind it. I don't think it took anything away from the film at all. You gotta admit, it is a stunning intro sequence.
I have to agree with you akhenaten. This is an old movie. It did not have the white castle on its original release, so why include it? It still has its original BUENA VISTA logo, so I'm happy about that. I also hope that the movies that were originally released with the white castle, even if it isn't part of the intro music, will still have them included.
This was suggested on that thread

It was a limited time give away, not a regular occurrence. At the store I work for we've removed all the points that were attached to movies we offered them with. It may return in the future, but don't expect the 50 bonus points anymore.

Well i thought I'd post pics of the UK 101 collector's set. Unlike the pics of the Brazilian? set posted, the UK version has the book and DVD housed inside a mock book just like the UK JB did.

Image

The book is brilliant, much better than that worthless excuse for a book that came with the JB set.

Having not looked at the galleries on the disc, I can't yet say if the book simply takes the stuff from the gallery. Here are a few shots anyway. Incidentally the cover is quite cool, it's actually a black and white photo of London, which has the house and dogs drawn over it.

Well, I finally got my copy, today! Because we ended up having over 6 inches of snow on the day 101 Dalmatians was released, I didn't want to have to drive the 25 miles into Tulsa to pick it up. However, I didn't want to miss out on the plush toys, so, I did an online order for in-store pick up. I ended up buying 101 Dalmatians: Platinum Edition, getting a free Lucky plush, buying the Penny plush for $4.99, pre-ordering Enchanted for $16.99, and getting The Aristocats: Special Edition for $14.99.

I finally went into Tulsa, today, to pick up my order. The E-mail said it would be ready in a minute, after presenting the order #. I got up the the customer service desk, the lady took my order #, and it wasn't even up there. I had already picked up a second copy of 101 Dalmatians: Platinum Edition with a Lucky plush for my nephew, Camden. His birthday is tomorrow, and I know he will love it! They only had Lucky plush toys left. Anyway, the girl goes to try to gather my order. She ended up hunting down the ONLY Penny plush that they had, in the store room. It ended up taking her about 10 minutes to get my order together. The guarantee they have is that if they don't have it in under a minute (except for specific items), they will give you $10.00 off your order (if your order is $10.00 or more). She ended up giving me $10.00 off my order, plus a $10.00 Gift Card. I am going to use the $10.00 Gift Card for Enchanted, when that is released! I ended up getting everything for a very great price, and I can't wait to finally watch the movies!

that book is gorgeous!!!! if only they're sold separately and at a larger size..

the art of 101 dalmatiians..aaaaaaaaaaaaaa

oh i was just thinking..people always say pixar films r sophisticated and adult..whereas disney's are just simple fairy tales..but i think 101 dalmatians and lady and the tramp and pinocchio represents the most adult storytelling and screenplay ever written and are much better than..ratatouille

Well having watched the DVD, I have to say that Im pleased to have the open matte print, but seeing the matted clips during the bonus features, I do wonder how the matted version would have looked. Oddly even though this predates The Jungle Book by 6 years, this doesnt seem as cramped in widescreen as JB did.

Don't think anyone's noticed this, but look at the cinemascope trailer! It looks like it was reshot Lady and the Tramp style. In the cinemascope trailer when they're watching the TV there's a table to the right of the TV that you can't see in the full frame version!

Let the conspiracy theory start here.

Anyway, the bonus features are very disappointing, I don't know why so many people are defending them. A big thumbs up for the trailers, and the sincereley Walt, but still a rather paltry slate all in all. In fact take away the trailers and it's about on a par with Peter Pan, in fact slightly worse off since Pan had a commentary. Very poor indeed.

I'm particularly disappointed the anthology episode is missing, particularly since one of the TV spots is chopped of the end of it. It begins "Earlier in tonight's ep you saw a preview... etc" or something to that effect anyway. I mean it's not as if they can claim there wasn't enough room on the disc, particularly when disc 1 is half empty.

Well, there IS two hours of disc space used for games and activities!

I picked up the DVD on Tuesday at BestBuy, and despite everyone saying that Penny was sold out in their area, it was the opposite for me! Penny was everywhere and I wanted a Lucky! Thankfully I saw one sitting on top of the cash register and asked the cashier if I could have him instead of the Penny I picked up. She gave him to me, and my cousin (who was with me) gave me and odd "you're odd" look. Watched the movie the same day and was pleasantly unsurprised at how great it looked. It was my first time watching it in a couple years (chose not to watch my VHS to build up my antici...pation), and was also my cousin's first time seeing it since she was like...four, so she was pleasantly surprised at how fun it still was 10 years later.

Didn't have a chance to watch most of the bonus features yet (not even the trailers!), but I did watch the "Sincerely Yours" featurette. It's a great piece, done in the same style as "Walt Disney: Why I Made Peter Pan". Hopefully this will be utilized on future DVDs (and not limited to Platinums). At the same time, it makes me a bit mad that they didn't continue with the "Inside Walt's Story Meetings", which should be an essential to any Walt-era film.

I watched the film again, and on the second viewing the logo didn't bother me...at least they kept the music and the theme of the old logo somewhat. It's just that the blue castle was so iconic, I hope when they release the 90's films on Blu Ray High Def Disc, they don't delete it ;p.

The film is so stunning though guys - to be honest I never really liked 101 Dalmations until I got it on the 2 Disc DVD, and I really do appreciate it more.

I think when you look at the bonus features on how it was made, it really makes you like the films more.

*Just wanna add the 80's/90's logo is still the best! ;p

The book does look better. :) And I'm glad its in Snow White type packaging. But I went for the twin pack... again :(

But it is disappointing that the book seems to have no text again. While the artwork inside the book is undoubtedly well worth seeing, the lack of contextual text around it still makes the book seem cheap. I know why Disney have done this. It's because the book is available in several countries and it stops them having to reprint a book in each language - instead they can print one set of internal pages and just change each country's hardcover.

The Snow White book was still the best IMO as it tells you about what you are looking at. (The lack of historical or artistic context is another of my big complaints about many new Disney DVD supplements too.)

(Here is a shot, check out my suspiciously like 'Bod hand posing!)

In a shock move, both Ichabod and Netty announced today that they would start-up a hand-modeling agency (which specialises in photoshoots promoting Disney books).

I just finished watching 101. The new release looked pretty good. I'm going to watch the extras tomorrow. Now I can't get the songs out of my head, "Cruella De Vil, Cruella De Vil..."

Go watch the 1992 VHS "Black Diamond" copy (or the 1999 "Masterpiece" copy) of "101 Dalmatians", and you might see the 1990 WDP logo.

The DVD that I got has the new logo, but it does plastering over the 1990 logo.
