"Disney Heroes" Series (Or who's in Widdi's avatar

Post by Flanger-Hanger »

O.k., because I pretty much de-railed the "High School Musical: The Series" thread by asking about Widdi's avatar and because others on this site including Dusty have asked, I have decided to create a thread where we can discuss this particular person's artwork on Deviant art (and not just the ones of the thread's title series). I put in off-topic because it doesn't relate to Disney news really.

Anyway Here's a link [WARNING some of the stuff is kinda mature, well not really but you know just in case your easily offended. I'm not ] : http://davidkawena.deviantart.com/

What does everyone think of this guys work in general? I like the character drawings he did for Enchanted and of Aurora and Helga.

He actually is on this board. He posted a link to his account a ways back, that's how I noticed it.

Uhh... I cannot recall. If you searched for his deviant art account, I'm sure it'd come up, but I can't recall off the top of my head.

Can't say that I'm easily offended, but I do strongly feel that this kind of stuff is not appropriate on a Disney forum and that Disney characters shouldn't be used like that. I found the whole thing only discusting.

You mean "disgusting". I don't know, I mean, I can't really get off on an animated character regardless, so whatevs. I don't find it offensive or anything.

Deviant Disney Heroes Series

Disney characters should be able to be used however we want except to make money off of them. We have "free use" and rights and all that and I rather like that the characters I grew up with and fell in love with can be interpreted the way I interpret them in my imagination and art. And you know what? Disney made the characters good-looking on purpose. And countless kids got their first crushes on these characters...some still have them...

Art is art. Art is new interpretations or views or visions of something that already exists, or made up things.

I think Flanger-Hangers warning is enough to keep people who don't want to see it from not seeing it. He didn't actually post the pictures in this thread. Maybe Flang-Hang wants to say "scantily clad Disney characters" to be more specific.

Eh, he did Jim, thus I'm happy.

Though Taran would probably appeal to me in the way I find skinny awkward men attractive.

I hope he does Eeyore next. Wrong on so many levels. But also right. Surely Eeyore is the ultimate Disney hero? :D

Ya, that sounds about right. And Flang-hang just sounds too strange for me (and I don't know exactly why) Dusty, you can just call me F-H in the future if you like.

If this were Disney's next top model, then yes, Thomas would be the first to go, followed by Milo. He said he was going to do Edward, The Beast as a prince (aka Adam) and "the trio from Brother Bear" (which I assume is Kenai, his brother and their dad?). I find it funny that Phillip is the only pre 1989 Disney character, but at the same time I think it would be to weird to do Peter (too young) or Snow and Cindy's Princes (too feminine looking).

As for his "Disney Surfers" series, I think it's a neat concept. I could see a whole line of swimsuits, surfboards, postcards, beach towels etc. with this stuff. And all could be sold at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach at sky high prices. For the artwork themselves, I think it would be best to do two for each character, one with them against whatever surf board they have and one with them actually surfing. Mixing characters (like Eric and Stitch) doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I do like the Tarzan/octopus gag.

Though animated characters certainly don't turn me on, there is beauty in the art. And I don't think it was drawn to be a turn on anyways. Its totally different than what I am use to seeing with fan drawings and I like the fresh idea. Very Calvin Klein and his talent is exceptional. He makes the characters look real. And he certainly knows how to make them look sexy.

Also, I see NO problem with these on a Disney site....considering pictures of girls in bikinis have been posted. One of those teenie boppers for instance...Miley Cyrus or Hilary Duff or whoever it was, her Myspace pics were posted and she was wearing next to nothing. At least this is ART and done so in a tasteful way. If this ART isn't allowed, then we shouldn't allow pictures of teenage girls in bikinis on here. THAT I find disgusting. Again, this is art, its done in a tasteful way.

Though if they were real...
Kocoum...Mmmm mmm mmm...I've always had a think for Native Americans though, so its natural for me.
Jim looks great, but he's so young in the movie, its creepy to me to think of him like that
David, very nice. Like the tattoo and piercing touches.
Aladdin, very simple, I like that.
Eric, love the tattoo! LOL
John Smith...if he lived with Pocahontas, I have little doubt, that is what he'd look like after spending time in the tribe.
Thomas, like Aladdin, simple and nice. Like the addition of the NA cuffs
Milo...never ever could think of this character as sexy, but he did a great job.
Tarzan...the dreds look great. They have a softness to them, their texture is fantastic. The addition of the scratches is also nice. I also love the shadowing.
Prince Phillip, simple, but his pose, I don't really like it that much.
Phoebus...very nice. I like his facial expression, love the hair. A true Sun God.
Hercules...very nice pose. Like he is in a competition. Perfect pose for him. Nice definition of his muscles as well.
Shang, nice shading, I think the underwear he is wearing is actually based on under garmets at that time in China, but I could be wrong. It just looks familiar. Pose is very nice too

OHHHHHH...this is the guy who did Lady Ice!! Just saw that! Awesome! I love that short, its so beautiful. Has a very Fantasia feel of it. Its pure mastery.

Generally, the ones I preferred were the characters I already liked (based on their film personalities), which are: 1. Hercules (beautiful considering I don't really think that much muscle is attractive [artistically or sexually]), 2. Aladdin and then 3. Jim H. (though he has a weird thing with his collarbone).

Shang was nice, too. And I like the Ariel tattoo on Eric. :P Yeah, I checked this the other day after the comment in the other thread. He has a way of making realistic counterparts out of animated characters. He's already done most of the major ones, but I'd still like to see Beast's human form.

Omg, a topic about my avatar?

How did I not see this before? I honestly didn't think a topless Prince Philip would cause any commotion.

Ah well, maybe now people will stop asking me about it.

 at this whole thing.

*Gizmo voice* Bye Billy. Sorry the beauty of a masculine body, even in cartoon form, scares you.
