Hey, not to be a D-bag, but would someone mind sending me / uploading "Fathoms Below" and "I Want the Good Times Back"? I noticed today both of those tracks have slight scratches in them, too. You guys might want to double check and make sure yours are all okay.

I never thought TLM would be good as a musical. Well, the songs are pretty good anyway. The cast is really great, and some of the songs really should have been in the movie. I enjoyed She's in Love and the added lyrics to Fathoms Below. Eric has great songs I really like One Step Closer. Whoever plays Sebastian doesn't hold a candle to Samuel E. Wright.
Currently listening to Kiss the Girl. Would have been cute if Eric had guessed Ariel's name as Jodi...

At least you have the songs.
Thanks anyway....

I like about half of the new songs. I love "If Only" but I don't care for the parts where all 4 of them are singing random lines at once....

Using Jodi would have been a REALLY good idea! And I agree, Samuel E. Wright has Tituss Burgess beaten by a mile, but I still appreciate what Tituss did.UmbrellaFish wrote:I never thought TLM would be good as a musical. Well, the songs are pretty good anyway. Been listening to the cast recording. Well color me surprised! The songs are MUCH better than I expected! I admit I am not so fond of the new versions of the original songs (save for "Kiss the girl" which I think is far better and more romantic than the animated version), but the new songs are so lovely and memorable I've been listening to them over and over.

Finally got my cast recording; I'm pretty satisfied. Boggess is definitely the best Ariel they could've got (and I'm very thankful Kerry Butler only did the demos). Burgess is a far better Sebastian than I expected (merely based on videos of the show) and I enjoy hearing him sing. Lewis is great as Triton, but sometimes he seems out of place (he reminded me of The Rock during "PUS (Reprise)"). Sherie Scott, who I considered having a beautiful voice that was simply wrong for the part, was surprisingly horrible on the CD--maybe she doesn't let herself go in the studio like she does on the stage? Still, all of Ursula's songs still have the Ursula-vibe regardless of who's singing and I enjoyed them (I try to imagine how divine Pat Carroll might've delivered them). And, needless to say, Flounder, the eels and Ariel's sisters were all excellent.
Am I the only one not quite sure why so many reviews have called the new songs unmemorable and dull? Sure, they're not as great as the originals, but they're lovely overall.
Also, I'm getting tired of all these references to Ursula having the bottom half of a squid. There may be only six tentacles (the majority of the time, though there are plenty of places and merchandise that depict her with eight), but only to lower production costs--she was designed after an octopus (which has fatter and shorter legs than a squid). Sorry, I needed to rant a bit.

Listening to most often lately:

Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

Well, Pat Carroll calls her a squid. And you don't want to cross her, do you?Disney's Divinity wrote:Also, I'm getting tired of all these references to Ursula having the bottom half of a squid. I got the CD at F.Y.E. today at mall. The booklet is to die for!
Great pictures from the cast photo shoot. I also noticed that Tituss' face looks... well... see for yourself. The CD art looked fine... I would've preferred the picture disc but why spend like $8 more dollars including shipping?!
The songs flow seemlessly from "Overture" to "Finale". The only songs I kinda felt were not for me were "Positoovity" and "Her Voice". "Her Voice" seems a little bad but I imagine it as Eric's 'Hopelessly Devoted' from Grease. That makes it seem better. "Positoovity" is ok but from what I've seen from videos, it sounds better onstage. On the CD I can hear the tapping but from the stage it looks and sounds much better.
My CD also had 'the skip'. I did though include my 'skip-free' version on my iPod instead of the one from the actual CD. I barely have enough time to try to listen to the entire thing. I am listening to "The World Above" on my iPod. I am hoping there are no more skips within the songs.

I share the sentiments about Sebastian. I mean he's not bad, and maybe if the Broadway show came before the movie and I wasn't use to Wright, I would find it easier to like. Ariel and Eric, great voices. Sorry, but Sherri can't hold a candle to Pat. I just have this feeling, she is trying TOO hard. Where as Pat, it was so natural. I like the fact the eels get to sing
I love many of the new lyrics. I love the use of words. Tidal pools, squid pro quo, etc. She's In Love reminds me a bit of Alan's work on Little Shop of Horrors. I like it. And I am glad they have Triton and Ursula as siblings and getting a bit of back story.
If Only (Quartet)...Pure beauty. If they don't win a Tony for that, then I really know the Tony's are fixed. Amazing song.
Does the CD make me want to see the show more? Not really. When the show travels south and if its within a hour drive, and very affordable, I'll go see it.
And yes, I bought mine at ITunes

What's the difference in package from the normal cast recording and the limited edition picture disk? Do they have the same booklet?
Can someone post pictures of the normal one and if anyone has it, also of the limited edition?
Thanks!

I know someone who has the picture disc version. The only difference is the discs. The packagings are the same. Same booklet, same back covers, all that except the disc art. If you go to Broadway.com and look at the cast recording signing at World of Disney in New York, you can see the actual disc art of the regular version. If you have the Beauty and the Beast recording, imagine TLM's like that just stuff printed on the disc while it is still showing the actual disc. Get what I'm saying? lol. And it does not have the track listing on the disc as BatB's does. Just the logo at the top, Original Broadway Cast Recording underneath that, then on the left the Ariel in the musical's promotion artwork, then on the right it says Walt Disney Records and the copyrights.

I just listened to all the songs on my MP3 player, and I made this review. Keep in mind I haven’t seen the Broadway play, I’ve just heard all the songs.
Fathoms Below- I enjoy this one. A lot. “As for me I’m about to heave ho!” love that line. Ariel’s voice was a nice touch.
Daughters of Triton- Eh, it’s okay. But it was so weird listening to the new lyrics, after all I’m used to the song being extremely short, so it just being a little longer was a surprise.
The World Above- It’s okay. Not my favorite new song, but I love Sierra’s voice. And I like the tune.
Human Stuff- I like the new Scuttle songs and the guy who plays Scuttle. He kinda reminds me of Rosie O’Donnell, though. And even though he’s not Buddy Hackett, it still good. It’s got a great catchy tune. I enjoy it a lot. “Wonderful stuff, human stuff!”
I Want the Good Times Back- I like the song a lot, but I can’t imagine Ursula singing this in the original movie. It does explain Ursula’s background very well, though. Once again, a great tune! I think Sherie’s changing the way she she talks/sings in the middle of the song is kinda strange. I agree with Siren, I like that the eels sing. Does Ursula say damn in this song?
Part of Your World- I’ve heard this song a million times on The View, Good Morning America, and Today. It’s not Jodi, but it’s still good. Sierra does justice to the song.
Part of Your World (Reprise)-It’s good, also. I wonder how this part is staged in the musical.
She’s in Love- I’ve mentioned before that I enjoyed this song. Unfortunately, I don’t see this song fitting in the movie either, at least not without some alterations. It kinda gives me a “Hercules” Muses feeling. Apparently, Flounder doesn’t know Ariel’s already in love. That surprises me. I suppose he’s not in the Part of Your World (Reprise). “Ariel and someone swimming in the sea K-I-S-S-I-N-G!” favorite quote. Like the ocean puns in here.
Her Voice- Starts kinda boringly. Gives me a “Pocahontas” feeling. “And her voice is sweet as angel sighing” favorite quote of this song. Sweet song, though.
The World Above (Reprise) - Whoever plays Triton has possibly the strongest voice of the entire cast. I enjoyed this one.
Under the Sea- Sebastian being my favorite character from the movie, I was very critical of this guy. But he’s not bad. I know this song inside and out, so I was kinda confused when the chorus starts singing the lyrics that Sebastian sings in the original film. Anyway, I enjoyed this song, also. I wonder if Samuel E. Wright will ever be cast as Sebastian?...
Under the Sea (Reprise) - Nice build up, but I wonder how this fits into the musical, because it wouldn’t fit in the movie.
Sweet Child- Great title!
Not my favorite song, but I enjoyed it. Very eerie. “You can’t mean…Aunt Ursula?” such a cool line.
Poor Unfortunate Souls- Enjoyed it. But enjoyed Pat Caroll’s better. Once again, Sherie’s changing her voice is very odd. And I don’t like that “Pathetic” is sung so, for lack of better words, strongly. And I prefer “Now sing! Sing!” rather than, “Now sing! Sing your voice over to me!” I love to see this scene in the play.
Positoovity- Cute little song. Another word to add to the TLM Fan Dictionary. Right between popsicle and prehysterical.
This song is officially my anthem!
Beyond My Wildest Dreams- This would have been perfect for the movie! But apparently there was a Bible in Ariel’s grotto. Hmm… Anyway, I didn’t initially like the “squeal-singing”, but now that I’ve listened to it hundreds of times, I’ve come to like it.I really like Sierra’s voice, also.
Les Poissons- My least favorite song from the movie, but I knew this song would be perfect for Broadway. And I imagine it is.
Les Poissons (Reprise) - Enjoyed it. Kinda reminds me of “Be Our Guest”.
One Step Closer- I enjoyed it. It gave me a feeling of both H.C. Andersen’s Little Mermaid and Disney’s The Little Mermaid. I didn’t particularly like Eric’s singing voice in this song, but I assume it must be hard to sing a song like this. I also liked the introduction to this song. Lovely tune.
I Want the Good Times Back (Reprise) - I liked this song. It’s a good introduction to the events of “Kiss the Girl”.
Kiss the Girl- Beautiful song as ever. I still think it would have been cute if Eric had guessed Ariel’s name as Jodi…
Sweet Child (Reprise) - Good song. Not my favorite, but it’s good. I wonder where this takes place in the musical, and are they singing to Ariel? I couldn’t tell.
If Only- I loved this. Simply loved this.
The Contest- Enjoyed it. Loved how it referenced “Part of Your World”. But it did give me an “American Idol” feeling, which doesn’t fit TLM.
Poor Unfortunate Souls (Reprise) - Eh, it’s okay… I liked the interaction between the two siblings. You don’t know how cool it is to call Triton and Ursula siblings, especially if you’re not a TLM fan.
If Only (Reprise) - Sweet song. It’s like the “I love you Daddy” scene put to music, which is my favorite scene of the entire movie.
All in all, I enjoyed the new songs. Someday, I hope I can see this play. I figure this play’s gonna have another 10 years on stage, though, simply on the popularity of the TLM movie.

I LOVE the Finale. It has lyrics in it.
I have the picture disc and the regular one as well; it's the same thing, like you said DwtS_Ultimate_Fan.
I love the ocean puns as well, UmbrellaFish. Nice review of the soundtrack!
