It's more than likely just a stupid rumor started by someone with too much time on their hands. Why would Burton skew so old for this? The oldest age I'll tolerate for the role is 13, but I'd prefer Alice to be between 7-10. If he can cast age-appropriate actors for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, why can't he do so here? I won't even get into the fact that this rumored actress is American. And I really don't want another stereotypical blonde, blue-eyed Alice. I'd like to have a different look for once. The same person spreading the rumor says there'll be a big press event tomorrow announcing the cast. I'm not expecting anything, and if indeed nothing happens, then the casting rumor can thankfully be put down as false, as well.

Having never seen this actress in anything, I can't judge her just yet. Burton has a nack for choosing good actors for his parts, so if he thinks it's right, it probably is.
And anyways, Alice is the part I'm least excited about anyway. I'm dying to hear who the other character's are going to be played by! The possibilities are absoluetly endless! I really do hope we get that news tomorrow!

Well it's safe to say that Helen Bonham Carter will be in this film.
She'd be great as the Duchess, but she'd most likely be cast as the Queen of Hearts. I honestly rather a more outrageous actress to play the part (Disney's QoH is plain perfect), but who knows.
I think I'm looking forward to American McGee's Alice more. I loved the game - one of the best games I've played. McGee's approach to the classic storyline was fantastic, and it wasn't too sinister either. I mean, it had a happy ending, and everyone who died, i.e. everyone, were revived at the end.
What I'm NOT looking forward to is Marilyn Manson's Phatasmorgia or w/e. All he's doing is perverting the children's literature tale with rather disgusting and illegal immoral acts, in an attempt to liken his "hero", Lewis Carrol to himself.
But other than that, I think it's amusing there are three "Alice" films to be released in the next few years.

wow, if thats Alice...she's hot...
BUT WAIT! Is Alice is supposed to be hot???
Eh, Alice should be a little girl like 10-12 years old...At least what I think, since the book stars a young girl. And I would want her to be away from sterotypical blue eyed blond Alice aswell since that's already Walt Disney's Alice...If it were me...Alice would be a pretty little pale skinned girl with big dark eyes and long jet black hair, but with the traditional poof dress and shiny black shoes.

well...who says she can't be hot
Remember that Carrol wrote that story based on a lolita he fall in love with,so a innocent yet somehow-mysteriously attractive(perhaps the eyes or her look would be the right thing) girl could be the one.
But...I wonder if the new Alice will be somekind of emo girl who will fall on a colorfull yet twisted land, something like "Sweeney Todd meets Charlie Wonka"

Well you know Sweeney Todd was a rather dark play to begin with. Tim Burton was simply being faithful to the storyline. I don't think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory nor any other of his films were dark at all. Sure they all had the gothic subtext, but all his other characters were so innocent and benevolent.Isidour wrote:well...who says she can't be hot

I can't keep up with this. First I hear rumors that he is doing Alice in Wonderland. Then, all of a sudden his credits on it disappear from IMDb. I was disappointed, because this would be the perfect project for him.
And now he is directing it. So now I'm glad again
. The supposed Alice looks way too wrong, though. I'll bet it will be someone younger, as in the book.

Tim Burton's supposed to be in final talks with an Australian actress named Mia Wasikowska...
This is her IMDb page, if anyone's curious...

Burton/Alice, Alice/Burton
, I' am getting really excited about this film.
I get your point, but, Tim Burton usually casts the perfect people for he's film, he knows what he's doing. We just have to let him do his wonderfully weird thing and wait patiently for the film to come out.KubrickFan The supposed Alice looks way too wrong, though. Well, the second supposed Alice looks better for the film than the first one. She would fit the part, no doubt. But we still don't know if she's going to be Alice, so all this may be about nothingBlack pearl wrote:Burton/Alice, Alice/Burton, I' am getting really excited about this film.

Crud, I was hoping I'd be the first person to post it here.
While the picky side of me wishes she were a bit younger, I still think she looks great for the role. I'll take late teens over early-to-mid-twenties any day for this part. It helps that she has a youthful face. This fits with the casting reports that stated Tim wanted an actress old enough to carry the film yet innocent enough to capture that sense of wonder.
I'm really thankful she's not blonde-haired and blue-eyed (unless Tim's going to alter her appearance in the film). The fact that she's Australian fascinates me. I think the only other time an Australian has played the role (outside of theater) was for the 1988 animated TV special. Even then, I'm not entirely sure the actress herself was Australian, though the production company definitely was.
I'm very satisfied with this casting choice based on looks so far (since I've yet to see any of her performances). I have full faith in Tim; if he thinks she's the right Alice, then I'll believe him.
Now give us the Wonderland cast, por favor.

Ha I hadn't even thought of how she was from Australia. Many of my favorite actors and actresses come from there (Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Geoffrey Rush, and the late, great, Heath Ledger).
Well, positive stereotypes aside, she looks perfect for the role, and Tim Burton's a very smart director and knows what he's doing here. So I can't wait. Gosh I'd love to see Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts. She's always so great to watch. And I hope Johnny Depp has a part in it as well, even though I think he works with Tim too often, it'd be nice to see him in another Disney film. Plus, can you just imagine him as the Mad Hatter, or the Caterpillar, or any of the other characters? That'd be sweeet.
REALLY excited for this movie.

Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland
Sarah Michelle Gellar was for American McGee's Alice, not this Tim Burton one at all! American McGee's was going to be based on the video game of the same name, American McGee's Alice, which is the story of Alice a little older, living in harsh reality and dreaming up a much darker Wonderland that she has to bring weapons into to battle it's much madder inhabitants! Tim Burton's will be based on the original classic books.Atlantis wrote:I cant wait for this movie to come out! Its been on the backburner forever. I still remember when Sarah Michelle Gellar was still attached to the project...
