"Alice in Wonderland" in a Jell-O Commercial
Does anybody remember this commrcial? If you haven't seen Alice with Sterling Holloway for the Jell-O commercial. Here is another rare gem. This is from 1955, the same year that Disneyland opened its gates. It features the Chesire Cat from "Alice in Wonderland". It is very, very rare. Thanks to Super8Monster at YouTube for this great find. Sadly, this rare commercial was not included in the "Alice in Wonderland" DVD, I hope it will re-release as a PE soon with a rare commercial with Alice in a Jell-O ad from 1955. Enjoy!

Cool Chesire Cat Commercial!
Wow, what a find! It's rare to see classic Disney animation that good outside of the films! An extra helping of our favorite characters animated well! It's just too bad the commercial wasn't in color. It would have been cool to see the Chesire Cat change yellow, orange, and green! I hope Disneykid sees this!

I enjoyed this. I love the "Jell-O for energy!" selling point.

As I said that this old commercial is not included in the "Alice in Wonderland" DVD as part of a bonus feature.Disney Duster wrote:Wow, what a find! If I'm not mistaken, all the shots of Alice and the Chesire Cat are from the movie and not new animation as you have said.Disney Duster wrote:Wow, what a find! They sure do ramble on about JELL-O a lot. I especially like the bit about JELL-O giving you energy, as Finchx0rz did.
I have arrived, and THAT was a cool commercial. The animation seems to me to be redrawn from the original film cels. The poses and general animation are definitely lifted from the actual film, but I noticed less detail on Alice's face in some shots. Also, the outlines of the characters are way thicker than the originals. The backgrounds also have gone through the same process as the character animation: based off of the original, but redone specifically for this commercial. I'm not sure why they did all that when they could've just as easily taken the actual clips from the film that they rotoscoped for this. Still, it's fascinating to watch. Also fascinating is how much more Kathryn Beaumont sounds like her adult self in this than she does in both Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan when this commercial came out just two years after the latter. Excellent find, musicradio! God bless YouTube!

Aw, I almost can't help but find stuff like this way touchung. Just reminds me of the great history that Disney has and for how long it's been a huge part of our everyday life.
And yeah, if only they would promote jell-o as an energizer today. Outta spice things up a bit

Jello gives you energy......
I love it! Even though I realize that this was an early commercial, the editing is pretty poor. I would have also enjoyed seeing this in color, so we could see the Cheshire Cat change colors.
I have to agree with Disneykid on this one, the animation does seem like it was traced directly from the actual film. The backgrounds are also second-rate copies of the film versions (see when the grins are appearing on the trees, as opposed to signs being on them).

I just read that article as well. I'd really like to see a Treasures set contining these commercials. I am really fascinated by the different time periods in the history of Disney animation. With each new release we get to have a nother piece of the puzzle; some like the War Era cartoons really let us see a different side to Disney animation. So even though the commercials may not hold a lot of entertainment value for the average viewer, it would be important to the hardcore collectors and historians.ichabod wrote:http://mag.awn.com/?ltype=pageone&article_no=2986

BUMPITY BUMP BUMP
Just wondering if anyone caught how long the commercial was and if there is another place to see it. I've searched Google and YouTube without any sign of a playing commercial. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it because I would love to see it again. Thanks.
