I can't post a picture because my camera is giving me an error message. However, I watched it and if it is fake it is a really good fake. The only thing that was 'off' was that the opening with the Walt Disney logo and castle seemed off centered. I really do appreciate your time :)
The case should be about double the size of a normal case, and it has two separate compartments for the DVDs.

Here is an example of the Alpha case (look at the Brotherhood of the Wolf case in the second row of pictures.)

from this you can see how it is much bigger than the other cases

also the corners should be well rounded

The double alpha case is about the size of 3 slim cases or 1 normal size case and 1 slim case

Problems with my Fantasia DVD

Post by +Luki+ »

I bought on amazon.de marketplace the Fantasia Collection Box.
The seller called telecenter007, the only information about the box were that its an Import-DVD (UK) but it works with german DVD player.
The price was not expensive, so I bought it.

Today, just three days after order, an package arrived.
I opened it and hold this in my hands:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k172/ ... iascan.jpg

The title say Collection but inside is only one DVD, just the old Fantasia movie from 1940. without any extras.
the titlemenu is very simple and looks like somthing somebody build this with the nero cover designer.
The paper of the cover is unusual hard and like cardboard.

Its not what I expected but what do you think, is this an fake? Anybody here who has the same version?

thanks

It's got Chinese text on it, so it's definitely not a UK import.

This is what the UK import actually appears to look like, from amazon.de:

Sounds to me like you are already suspicious that it's a fake/bootleg, and I'd say you're right just from the details you've given.

You might also want to check the seller's feedback and other products they're selling. Chances are, if they're selling one fake DVD, they're selling others too.

I'd try to get a refund on that one. Of course, the seller's going to claim ignorance, but all signs point to a fake.

I live in Thailand. And I have seen this one before. Exactly same kind of material as you explained. Also confirmed by code 'BD287' on its spine and round hologram on front cover.

Excuse me to say that it is 100% fake from southern part of China. Price 2 (Two) USD if you buy it in Myanmar or Thailand.

Is this a bootleg?

Post by drfsupercenter »

I came across this, and remember thinking it would be a good thing to look into... since I mentioned earlier that I am trying to find a non-Platinum Edition Cinderella.
It might also have a different edit of Fantasia, not the re-recorded uncut one...

But does anyone know about this? Is it bootleg?

It's a Korean import. Dunno if it's actually a bootleg, but I'd be very suspicious.

It says 'All Region' which screams bootleg if its not a Public Domain film/TV show.

But Amazon isn't known for selling bootlegs... that's why I'm curious.

Korea and Japan both are known for releasing unauthorized copies of DVDs and CDs. I am not sure why they are able to get away with it, but I've seen it going on for about 6 years now that I know of. At least this set is in an actual box. The last Korean DVD I got was in just a printed DVD sleeve. It came from Amazon.com.

It is obviously a bootleg. The Disney Dvd logo is absent for one. Two, the pictures are obviously borrowed from Google. Finally, the dvd box looks like it was made in Photoshop.

Just because its a region free title doesn't mean its a bootleg, but the box art does look kind of like a bootleg.

If your worried about getting a bootleg I wouldn't risk ordering this set.

I agree with you on both counts.

There are companies out there that are well known for putting out bootlegs, but they do a very professional quality job of the production. It just turns out they weren't authorized to release the stuff in the firts place. It's good to research a piece before buying. There are usually enough reviews on dvds and cds that will tell you one way or another if a release is valid. if there don't seem to be any reviews at all I'd be wary of buying one myself.

I have been duped a few times on Amazon thinking i was getting something official and then once i received it, it was obviously bootleg. I am really careful whenever I buy anything from Amazon

well if it is a bootleg, just return it back to amazon. they are great with customer service. Everytime I had an issue they always sloved it. :)

I don't care as much that it's bootleg... but about quality. If they come from a non-Platinum Edition source (Cinderella and Pinocchio are what I'm after, Cinderella having a horrible restoration on the PE), as long as they aren't VCD or something, it would probably work.

So no one here has this set?

Buying Fantasia on Amazon.com Marketplace - a good option?

Post by steve »

I know that eBay is rife with fake Fantasia DVDs - does anyone know if the Amazon.com Marketplace is likely to be any better? I'm put off by the fact that sellers don't have to post pictures... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, I would just hold out for the Platinum Edition. However, if you really want it right away, I would use eBay because they DO post pictures. Remember that you might have to pay a little more for what you want. Find a seller that has really good feedback and read through his reviews. Yes, there are a lot of fakes on eBay, but most of them are easy to spot. But, it is usually just as easy to spot a good seller with authentic Disney DVDs.

I meant to say Fantasia Anthology, as I wanted Fantasia 2000 as well. I heard it's getting a Platinum treatment, but that seems unlikely, no?
