Please Help: What is this song?

Post by disneyfella »

I TiVoed the screen actors guild awards show and am just now watching it, and this song that has sort of been haunting me for years was played in it. I am looking for the name of the song and where I can get it....is it even available?

It is the song that played at the beginning of the montage where they remembered all of the actors who have died in the last year.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone

Is there a link somewhere for those of who don't watch those types of shows. Surely YouTube might have the opening somewhere. You find the link and post and we will get you the answer.

I found the video on youtube:

2008 SAG Awards - Memorial Tribute

It's also got an extended Heath Ledger tribute after the SAG one.

Anyway, OMG, that music is beautiful, and now I want to know what it is too! I first thought it was Lonesome Dove, but it's a slightly different tune, so it obviously wasn't.

And the music during the Heath montage is the theme from The Cider House Rules. It's by Rachel Portman and is one of the most touching pieces of music you'll ever hear in your life. I play it on the piano every chance I get, and never tire of it.

I'm not for sure but I think the music might be the main theme from The River Runs Through. It's been a while since I have heard it but it is familiar.

Kevin

EDIT: Now that I think about it the music is probably from one of Heath Ledger's films. Probably Brokeback Mountain, which I have never seen so I can't tell you for sure.

Success! I figured I'd e-mail the SAG Awards and ask and they replied rather promptly:

The music that was used for the In Memoriam section was the following:

"The Ludlows" from LEGENDS OF THE FALL
And
The End Title of SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

I'm sure you would be able to find the soundtracks for either of these films
pretty easily.

So it looks like Kevin was on the right track (with his suggestion of A River Runs Through It), as one of them was a Brad Pitt movie.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I have literally been searching for years for this song.....this was a total shot in the dark, but finally.....SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!

I will have to run to iTunes and see if I can download just the song. Is the whole soundtrack good? or just this song? By the way...here is the whole song:

The first time I fell in love with this song is when it was played against footage of HBO's "Band of Brothers" in a tv promo for the series. I can't seem to find the promo anywhere, but I'll never forget it. I've been looking for this song ever since and that was literally about 7 years ago!!!!

Thank you guys so much!!!!!! :)

I think I'm going to go cry now.........

It's been a couple years since I last saw Legends of the Fall, but if this one track is so mind-blowingly beautiful, I'm sure the rest are too. It's James Horner, you can't go wrong with him!
