3 questions....
Hi, I have some questions that I cant find the answers to anywhere. So I'll ask the experts!!
1,When is the Dumbo DVD going back into the vault? and is there a better version that is going to be coming out soon or should I get the"Big Top" Edition if I dont want to have to wait another 10 years?
2, Ive read a couple people on this site saying that you can contact Disney to get a slip cover for your DVDs that are missing one, does anyone have the right phone number to call....or better yet; an email address?
3, Are we going to find out what Platinum Edition DVD is going to be released in March 2009 inside the 101 Dalmations DVD, or has that already been officially announced?...
I know these are kind of random questions,....but thanks in advance for any resonses!

Re: 3 questions....
1. Dumbo has never been vaulted. One release simply replaces an old one usually about once every 5 years. The next release should be 2011 or 2012. Nobody knows if it will be a better disc or God willing, 2 Disc set. If you really want the movie pick it up now and if a better edition comes along you can choose to buy it again.Mowglie wrote:Hi, I have some questions that I cant find the answers to anywhere. 2. I can't help you here, but from what I've heard Disney no longer gives out slipcovers unless yours is damaged (I think you may have to send the old one in). I'd recommend checking our Trade forum, as many users (myself included) sell, trade or giveaway slipcovers there.
3. Possibly. Nothing has been confirmed, but Pinocchio is the likely Spring 2009 release, which will be followed by Fantasia in October or Spring 2010. They have both been announced as part of the Platinum Collection though their release dates are currently unknown. 101 Dalmatians may name the Spring 2009 release, or it may not. The spring release doesn't always name the next two (For example Lady and the Tramp only named The Little Mermaid).

I'm not sure anyone but Disney would really know why they havn't vaulted Dumbo. I think that's just the way it's worked out. I don't see The Bog Top Edition going into the vault for a while now though. It was just released a year and a half ago, and it's never been advertised as only being available for a limited time only. I'll bet it still has a few more years of shelf time. I would definately buy it now though, instead of waiting for a new release.

Disney's lower profile movies do get silently vaulted (no ad campaign like they have for the bigger titles) for a few months every now and then and get quickly replaced by a new set. Dumbo is one of these movies along with the Sword in the Stone, Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood and several other titles. There's a list somewhere on this site I believe.Mowglie wrote:Thanks for being so helpful, but i'm confused about the Dumbo thing, Disney never puts this one in the vault? why not?

Only the Big Top Edition is in print now, though you can occasionally find the 60th Anniversary Edition in DVD stores like FYE, Suncoast, Sam Goody, etc. (either new or used, more likely to be used though). Most other retail stores will only have the Big Top Edition.
The 60th Anniversary Edition has the following features which are not in the Big Top Edition:
-1941 Theatrical Trailer
-1949 Theatrical Trailer (Re-Release)
-"Sound Design" Excerpt from The Reluctant Dragon
-Music Video: "Baby Mine" by Michael Crawford
-Sneak Peak: Dumbo II (which, in 2001, was in production, but it has since been canceled)
The Big Top Edition loses those features, but adds two new ones:
-Music Video: "Baby Mine" by Jim Brickman & Kassie DePaiva
-DisneyPedia: My First Circus
Both versions have the following:
-Commentary: film historian John Canemaker
-"Celebrating Dumbo" (a 15-minute featurette)
-Walt Disney Introduction (for its airing on the "Disneyland" TV series)
-Art Gallery (167 stills)
-Sing-Along versions of "Look Out For Mr. Stork" and "Casey Junior"
-DVD Storybook: "Dumbo's Big Discovery"
-Two Silly Symphony cartoons: "Elmer Elephant" & "The Flying Mouse"
Picture quality is different, with the Big Top Edition being the better of the two (though some may disagree), though the "Pink Elephants on Parade" sequence actually looks better in the 60th Anniversary Edition.

I think I'll go for the "Big Top" edition if the other version you guys mentioned is out of print...(I've had a bad expirience with buying used Disney DVDs, I think I might have bought a bootleg Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition). I'm curious about another thing, The Great Mouse Detective really isnt a movie that I care for much, but I'm wondering why I've never seen or heard anything about a DVD for this movie, mabey I just missed it when it came out?

It came out 5 or 6 years ago on a standard (ie, not part of any collection and with no "Special Edition" banner attached to it) DVD. It's pretty decent for such a release, and with no signs of a re-release coming, I'd pick it up if you want to collect the animated classics.Mowglie wrote:I think I'll go for the "Big Top" edition if the other version you guys mentioned is out of print...(I've had a bad expirience with buying used Disney DVDs, I think I might have bought a bootleg Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition). I swear this will be my last question! When did Lady and the Tramp go back into the vault? and why so soon? It came out in '06 if I remember right, and it's already gone....meanwhile Aladdin has been out since '04 and just stopped printing this week. Can someone give me the date it went back in the vault so I can tell wheather or not it's too late to get a used one without it being a bootleg? Thanks for all your help, my Disney DVD collection is in the beginning stages(I only have 7) but I think I'm going to try to collect the entire Platinum Collection, so the info on this board is really helping me out!

It's easy to get a non bootleg copy. A lot of stores still have a few copies on the shelf and used DVD shops often have copies too. Look around, and be sure to inspect the discs before you buy a used copy.
