I was doing a search on Dr. Syn tonight and found the site for a theatre in Bellingham, Washington which is advertising this event coming up next month. (Please excuse me if this info has already been posted.) Check the part I have capped:
Special Event featuring ALL NEW INTERVIEW with star Patrick McGoohan and a RARE SCREENING of Dr. Syn!
Producer/director, Larry Green of Bellingham, recently sat down with long–time friend and business associate, legendary actor/writer/director/producer Patrick McGoohan (Secret Agent, The Prisoner, Braveheart) FOR AN EXTREMELY RARE INTERVIEW TO BE INCLUDED IN THE LONG AWAITED DISNEY DVD RELEASE OF MCGOOHAN'S 1965 FILM, DR. SYN ALIAS THE SCARECROW. Patrick McGoohan, known to be the highly creative force behind the legendary cult TV series, The Prisoner, 1967, is known for being reclusive, private and “difficult”.
Mr. Green will be talking about the interview, which will be shown in it’s entirety along with the original release of Dr. Syn Alias the Scarecrow,
and will be describing a completely different personality than the image people have of Mr. McGoohan. “Contrary to popular myth”, declares Mr. Green, “my wife and I know Patrick as a warm, extremely witty, humorous and classy gentleman.”
In the interview, Mr. McGoohan discusses many memories he had about the filming of Dr. Syn, how he got into acting, his political views, his true feelings about the Catholic Church (you will be surprised!) and Disney Studios. He also dropped a few bombs into Mr. Green’s lap including, the long awaited answer as to why he turned down James Bond TWICE!

dr.syn alias the scarecrow
yes, high ranking disney officials have already interviewed patrick mcgoohan back in september 2007. the interview is to be on the 2-disc dvd for when it gets release. i believe the plan is to release it as the walt disney treasure collection in december 2008.
the walt disney company, from what i heard is working on some legal issues regarding the release of the scarecrow, but they are working very very hard to resolve the situation, i believe its the music in the film. ive recently purchased signed autographed patrick mcgoohan scarecrow pictures and found all this information that way !!! i truely honestly believe it will be out on dvd this december and im extremely looking forward to it........ITS ABOUT TIME DISNEY DID SOMETHING RIGHT FOR A CHANGE!!!!!!!!

Though mine isn't autographed, I have a framed photo of the Scarecrow hanging on my wall too, ha. Anyway, I just hope they don't release it with different music or something. It seems a lot of stuff has trouble getting released due to legal issues over the music, and sometimes they just change it, which is always a huge disappointment.

Well, my initial reaction is, "Hallelujah!!"
I'm VERY MUCH looking forward to this.... I do hope this news turns out to be true!
Thanks, Linda and MSH1975, for your contributions here!

That would be awesome! Just about the first real catalog title released in years. I've been hoping for Dr. Syn to be released since I first got into dvd. I won't hold my breath or bet the farm on it though. So many other sure things have never come to pass: Lilo & Stitch 2 disc & so many more that I only tend to believe Disney when the disc is in my hands.

Wow, weird. Wasn't the Scarecrow theme written for the film? Why would the rights be separate? There's music in most other live-action Disney films, some written by the same songwriter. I wonder why this one would pose a problem.msh1975 wrote:i believe its the music in the film.

The problem with music rights generally comes with performance rights. if the orchestra wasn't paid a certain way that included the right to sell copies to the public, these rights often have to be renegotiated and paid as if new recordings when released on CD or DVD. This holds up some titles as the new deals are cut - - or avoided. Sometimes there isn't an issue at all, only a perceived issue... and no one wants to be bothered to investigate.
Don't know if that's the case with Dr. Syn, but it's surely not the publishing rights to the song itself.

How/where did you purchase the autographed photo? I'm a huge fan of the Prisoner series that Patrick McGoohan made.msh1975 wrote:yes, high ranking disney officials have already interviewed patrick mcgoohan back in september 2007. the interview is to be on the 2-disc dvd for when it gets release. i believe the plan is to release it as the walt disney treasure collection in december 2008.
