A Complete Quick-Guide to Walt Disney Productions (films)

Post by gkittler »

Hi everybody,

At first I just want to add that I’m not completely new, and that I’ve been visiting this site ever since back in 2001, but I never really had the time to join the discussion board. The reason I’ve joined now, except that it’s long overdue is the following:

I’m having an MA and I’m a film historian, living in Austria, Europe at the moment. I’m specialized in animation and it has mostly been Disney’s fault :)

Ever since I can remember I collected Disney Productions and since there are no real “Quick-guides” to Disney Productions I started to edit one for myself. My dream was a guide that includes every film, short, etc. (in short everything that is actually a “moving picture”) ever created by Disney. This task (I’m pretty sure it’s not complete and perhaps never will be, if I do this alone) took me a few years of my free time but I did it, on paper.
Now some of my friends wanted it too and encouraged me to digitize it. Well, that’s what I do now in my spare time between work and my doctor thesis.
And I thought that there may be others too who seek such a guide, so I’m creating it as a website, http://disneyfilmguide.page.tl/.

At the moment it’s more or less just a Work-in-Progress Version, that’s online, just to give you an idea what I did on paper, but it would be great if people that are interested, let me know, what they think about it and if typing it into a webpage is a cause worth spending my free time.

Well that’s it for the day since it’s already 02:00am (Dec., 22.) here in Vienna.

I think it's a really fine idea! I wish you luck with the project.

I will add that I do not care for your template and layout design. First of all it does not have a Disney look to it. Secondly you do not have everything formatted the same text-wise. Thirdly, there is a black bar that is distracting on some pages as it goes right down the middle of the text.

I think before you proceed much farther and invest a lot of time and effort I would address your template issues first. Skin and design are important and so is the layout. It must be easy to use and pleasant to look at and at the same time easy to read. Otherwise not many people will use the site and I think that would defeat your purpose.

I am most definitely in favor of this. Please take your time and do the most thorough job you can. It would be nice to have a site like that to be able to find the Disney films.

I'm sorry but I don't understand a moderator moving this thread to "Off Topic"! It makes no sense! Is this NOT a Disney board? Does the question not relate to Disney? Yes it does! So why did a moderator move it? I mean it's not like the dude is trying to develop a competing website. It serves a completely different purpose and service. General Discussions is really where it should be because it is Disney related and NOT off topic.

Nicely said, Kevin, and I also would support that it be moved back to the General Discussion threads. It is totally Disney related, and that's where it should be.

Thanxs everybody. Looks like there are others out there who are interested, so I will take my time and put it online. It will take some time (!!!!) so please be patient, since I have to work too and this is just a hobby, but I hope the result will be satisfing too everybody in the end. I think you can expect an update at least every two weeks, as long as it's in the developing state I might be even faster. I will inform you about the updates in this post if that's OK with everybody, especially the moderators of this board.

Like I said it was/partly is just a Work-in-Progress Version for a first insight of what I have in mind, cause I wasn't sure if I should invest the extra effort to edit it into HTML at that time. But I've started to format the sites now, and put a little Disney look to it (far from finished).
There is a black bar between the Synopsis and the fact section in each entry but I'm not sure if you meant that one: http://disneyfilmguide.page.tl/Disney-D ... _Video.htm

Well, I didn't get it either but it seems they don't agree with me that a Poll about a "Quickguide to Disney movies"-Homepage counts as a topic related to Disney movies, shows, and DVDs.

For the moderator who might or might not thought that I was trying to develop a competing website, I can only say: I wouldn't even dream of it, I wouldn't have the time nor the energy to hold track on any DVD release so I can just kneel before those you do, and I'm thankful for that, cause it's this site I use as a guide to find the DVD releases of the films on my list, which is just an information platform kind of Quicklist. PS: You're even linked to.

HI EVERYBODY.

With the old year coming to an end and the beginning of the New Year I've revamped the homepage Complete Guide to Walt Disney Productions and put the first sections online.

I've also taken all preview-work-in-progress-versions offline and will reload them step by step as soon as they're ready. The following sites are now online:

Disney Shorts: 1920ies & Disney Direct-to-Video are up-to-date and complete to my knowledge.

Disney Shorts: 1960ies; 1970ies; 1980ies; 1990ies: 2000ies are online too but still labeled as "Work-In-Progress" since I have to add a few more Educational and Attraction shorts, like "Bambi: A Lesson in Preservance" or various Circle-Vision/Circarama shorts, I haven't gotten to yet.

I've also added the first 20 Feature Films on Disney Features 001-100, More Coming Soon, I hope to finish this page the coming weekend.

With over 230 Disney Television Series, it will take some time but since I've already written those 3 Guides I uploaded them too:
001. Disneyland Guide: The complete first season & some specials.
025. DuckTales Guide: 1.Season & Specials are online; Season 3(2) & 4(3) follow hopefully by the end of the week.
196. Lost Guide: Complete and Up-to-Date.

MORE COMING SOON!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY :)

HI EVERYBODY.

I've updated the site again:

I've added the next 40 Feature Films on Disney Features 001-100, So that means the last 40 will follow soon, I hope to finish this page the coming weekend.

The following Television Series Guides received an Update:

025. DuckTales Guide: Is now complete except a few director names who will be added as soon as I have time to watch the tapes again.

001. Disneyland Guide: Is now complete. And I mean complete to the best of my knowledge.
The next section in the Anthology Guide will be 001. Walt Disney Presents Guide.

I've also added the first part of the 003. Zorro Guide.

The Disney Television Series Site received two new entries and the page itself a possibility to sign up on an update newsletter.

MORE COMING SOON! :)

HI EVERYBODY.

Just a quick update in-between:

I've completed and added the 003. Zorro Guide to the homepage http://disneyfilmguide.page.tl/.

I will now continue with the next section in the Anthology Guide (001. Walt Disney Presents Guide) and hopefully have time for the Short sections too.

Hope the layout is acceptable and more or less user-friendly (with the exception of the 1960-2000 Short sections, they will be corrected as soon as they are complete :? Let's say in about 2 to 3 weeks). If you have any ideas how to improve the layout a bit, or wishes what sections I should finish first, I'm open for suggestions.

MORE COMING SOON!
