Speaking for dvdjunkie, no you didn't miss anything. There's only the single-disc, single-layer Dinosaur Blu-ray release. Were BD-50 technology mastered by last fall, perhaps it would have been otherwise.

Actually you can get the Samsung BD-P1000 for $499 now at Amazon. It got a lot of criticism when first released but from everything I've read it's a fine player after firmware upgrades. The 20GB PS3 (if you can find one)is $499 (60GB ver. is $599). Currently those are the 2 cheapest BD players but there are more coming and the prices will continue to drop.

Samsung's 2nd gen player is coming out this month I believe. Sony has announced a 2nd gen player for this summer with a $599 list price I believe.

If you're not planning on buying till next year you should be in good shape as far as getting a good BD player at a good price.

As far as the BDs they have released/are releasing I think they will be available for a while as the installed base is so small. And there will probably be plenty of warning about the vault. Disney is pretty good about reminding you to buy their product. :D

Disney Blu-Ray In the Vault question

Post by BrianG »

Not sure if this has been asked or not but since Blu-Ray isn't in most homes and Disney always puts things "In the Vault", how long will the animated blu-ray releases be available for purchase?

Right now I don't think they will go into the vault very fast, if they do. Blu-ray has very small disc sales compared to DVD, and I don't think putting titles OOP that fast is a good ideal. However anything can happen.

Mary Poppins going into the vault?

Post by my chicken is infected »

Has anyone else heard anything about Mary Poppins going into the vault? I don't feasibly see why they'd do that. As far as I know, it's never been out of print on home video, so why start now?

Well, do they know that it is in fact "going into the vault"? Sometimes a title just goes away for a while to make way for a different edition. But in the case of MP I really don't know.

I don't trust that website.

They should know that "Lady & the Tramp" and its sequel were already vaulted. And, I don't think we've read anywhere that "The Little Mermaid" is going in the vault soon. Likewise with "Mary Poppins".

And, they should know that there is no live action film called "101 Dalmatians II"- the 2000 live-action film is just called "101 Dalmatians".

They should mention that "Cinderella II" is coming out of the vault.

Why would they list "Old Yeller" but not "Savage Sam" as being in the vault? That 2-disc collection is not yet in the vault, if I'm not mistaken.

What are they speaking of when they mention "The Three Little Pigs" (1982) & "Tortoise and the Hare" (1990)??? And, "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree" is not in the vault- it's a part of "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh".

And, the True-Life Adventure films they mention would be a part of the Legacy Collection, and that's not in the vault yet (again, if I'm not mistaken).

I wouldn't trust what that website mentions. And, there are so many other films that are in the vault that aren't even mentioned ("Pinocchio" comes to mind).

I think that site is trying to get people to buy Disney movies from them. By saying that the movies are going back into the vault is their way of selling more of a movie.

Actually, if you don't mind me pointing out, the 2000 film was called "102 Dalmatians" and it was a sequel to the successful 1996 live-action movie which was just called "101 Dalmatians", sometimes with "(live action)" next to it so people don't get the live action and original animated movie confused. :)

I messed up. What I meant, I guess, is that there was no live-action "101 Dalmatians" in 2002, but it was in 1996 (as you said), and that the sequel is called "102 Dalmatians". I must've been sleepy when I posted that...

Sword in the Stone and Alice to go into the Vault?

Post by MouseHouse55 »

Hey everyone! According to Best Buy's weekly ad, Sword in the Stone and Alice in Wonderland are going into the vault, along with the Aladdin and Cinderella trilogies. (Yes I know how horribly awful "Cinderella trilogy" sounds.) That's news to me that those two are going away...does this mean new editions?

This would give new evidence for the Alice in Wonderland platinum edition DVD in 2011. But would be looking forward to a new edition of The Sword in the Stone.

I wonder if it will be worth it to pick up Sword and the Stone now or wait for the new edition?

Yes, I thought it was kind of odd myself. I sort of knew about Alice since they had the rumor about it going Platinum, but was quite surprised with Sword in the Stone. Looks like I'm going to be picking it up soon.

Perhaps Disney didn't announce it because if they did, everyone would go out and buy them and perhaps they want everyone to buy the possible new editions coming out?

Oh cool, hopefully this means that The Sword in the Stone will be getting an update in the near future. I doubt it will be more than a single disc release, but I'll be looking forward to seeing what Disney comes up with.

I saw this today too. But I wonder if we'll see the South of the Boarder set first? Those 2 films vanished with no fanfare at all.

And what of Hercules and Hunchback? Grrrr. You'd think if Sword and Alice get reissued with even more bonus features than Quasi and Herc would too. Maybe they'll get Alice right this time and port over all the LD content. I bought an LD set because they half assed the DVD so. Never got the player though. Been holding out for the best.

Yeah, I saw the ad with those, too. Alice has been on DVD for at least 3 years now, so its probably time for it to go. But Cinderella II was just RE-released onto dvd in December (last month) so it can't be leaving already.

We need Pinocchio before we'd get an Alice Platinum.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.
