I've never heard of it before, but I must say...when I saw the cover (on Amazon), I was like, "Those are the kids from Mary Poppins!" I didn't know they were in any other...Disney films. And, really, how could a movie called The Gnome Mobile NOT be good? It certainly sounds like an interesting film. :)

Well the German DVD case says 1.77:1 anamorphic widescreen, but it's really 1.33:1 also. Is it the original aspect ratio? Probably not, but it might very well be open-matte and I doubt it'd be far off if it isn't the original aspect ratio.

The thing is, Disney clearly has materials that went to theater exhibitors that plainly state the original aspect ratio. Check out the Parent Trap DVD for an example of this. It contains specific instructions saying to display the film in 1.75:1. I wish we could see these sheets for other live action films, and not just the ones given the Vault Disney guaranteed-to-be-OAR treatment.

It's odd for a film like Those Calloways to be presented in 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen and nearly all the rest to be 1.33:1. But then, why would it be the only one theatrically displayed at that slightly wider ratio?

That doesn't make sense, either.

This movie has always struck me as such a family film. This would be a great movie to show your children. The story line is so sweet. With Walter Brennan as the sweet Grandfather. DJ Mulrooney. And The Mary Poppins Kids as his 2 grandchildren. I loved it when I was little. I wuld always request to watch it on My Birthday. I am so glad that it is coming out on DVD!
