Aside from the fact that I'm Mormon (just throwing it out there.... again :P ), me and Escapay were very similar this year by the fact that we both received our gifts from our respective SS's from 2006. :)

Thanks very much to Michael (disneyboy20022) and the awesome gifts: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on DVD, and Blackbeard's Ghost (a classic! :D ), Donald in Mathmagic Land and WWoD: Three On The Run & Race For Survival on VHS, as well as an awesome card. I wish you could luck with your medical woes and a very merry Christmas, my friend. :) :santa:

I received my gift package today from the awesome Renata. She got me Thoroughly Modern Millie on DVD, an Alice in Wonderland ornament, a Cars dry erase board with marker, a box of Mrs. Field's peppermint chocolates, a mini book of Rankin and Bass' Santa Claus is Coming' to Town, and a watermelon candy cane (yes, I ate it, already. That's how I knew the flavor). Thanks so much for these gifts, Renata! Out of the DVDs I listed here, I actually wanted Thoroughly Modern Millie the most. I had never seen it except for pieces, and really looked like what I saw. Now that I've watched it in full, I can officially say that it's a great movie that deserves more recognition outside of the show it inspired. The other goodies included were great, as well, especially the awesome Alice ornament that I had been wanting to get for some time but never got around to it. Thanks again, and Merry Christmas!

I am glad you liked the gifts.. I am glas You liked them.. I found Donald in Mathmagic Land at the local thrift shop for $2 and the WWoD VHS was from Goodwill for $2 and I threw in the Blackbeard's ghost VHS from my personal collection because I know how much you are a fan of the VHS and besides I got that on DVD years ago... and I figured who best to get the Black Beard's Ghost VHS then someone who likes VHS over DVD.

Have a Merry Christmas and thanks for wishing me luck on my Medical woes... I am going to need it....

and also I am pretty sure I Got Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on 2-disc dvd... not just dvd...

Watch Children of Dune. You will be pleased to know that he is shirtless for a good amount of scenes.

I guess us Christopher Michael's have more in common than we think! (oldschool reference, I wonder if JM recognizes it...)

Yay! I'm excited that you received your gift! I chose to give you Thoroughly Modern Millie because it is one of my all-time favorites, so I'm glad that you really wanted it, and now have been able to see it. It's way underrated and I had never heard of it at all until the stage version came out (which rocks as well). I'm also happy to hear that you like the Alice ornament. It was sort of a last resort since I went to Disneyland the beginning of December and had really wanted to get you something from there. But there was no Alice merchandise at all. It was quite ridiculous. Anyway, it makes me very happy to hear that you actually had seen the Alice ornament and had wanted it. I'm just glad you didn't buy it for yourself! Season's greetings! :tink:

Received another Charlie Brown Christmas card, only this time from Luke. Thanks so much for the card Luke, you didn't have to mail anything but it was nice to see you did it for everyone who participated in the Secret Santa for this year.

I've got to give a very sincere thanks to the 22 forum members who worked together to surprise me with an extremely nice and generous bundle of gifts yesterday afternoon! All of the presents were excellent choices and are greatly appreciated.

Though running this site certainly has left me with no shortage of DVDs, I can tell you that it's been a while since I bought a DVD for myself, so the four you guys got were both welcome and needed. I've already watched and enjoyed one and look forward to seeing the others in the near-future and having them ever ready to cater to my viewing whims.

As gift certificates usually are, the two you guys got are awesome. Amazon is my go-to place for getting just about anything but food, so I'll have no trouble using that. And my appreciation for Romano's Macaroni Grill has increased considerably this year, with each successive enjoyable visit (though part of me is tempted to try one of the other three redeemable places I've not yet been). Plus the Charlie Brown & Snoopy gift card tin was great - so much better than just a plain envelope. I've got to think of a way to use it for gift cards and then sneakily take it back to keep. Maybe I could just use it to hold Christmas tree ornament hooks instead.

The GiftScription is also sweet and the Entertainment Weekly issue almost certainly confirms my instincts to choose it. I'm a big fan of that magazine, so it will be neat to start getting that again (my subscription ran out some time ago). Electronic Catchphrase truly rocks - I just need big group gatherings to get the most fun out of it now. And the final gift, the CD that I'm too embarrassed to even identify and even more embarrassed to wonder its cost, has already been listened to in full and dutifully appreciated on many different levels. It's a real keeper.

Also must say I loved the two cards - the "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" Charlie Brown Christmas might very well be the best of Hallmark's musical cards I've encountered and the sentiments expressed in the other, to use a maudlin expression, really warmed my heart all the way to its cockles.

Running the site (now sites) and the forum seems to require more work and time from me with each passing year. A lot of that work -- deleting/banning robotic spammers multiple times a day, having to encounter ridiculous juvenile "feedback" e-mails, and all the copying/pasting/moving that site upkeep requires -- kind of sucks. But then you guys get together in such amazing numbers, even those who haven't posted much lately and/or aren't participating in Secret Santa, and do something as thoughtful as this and I remember just how lucky I am to have this site, this forum, and this friendly community. As you may very well have noticed, I haven't posted much on the forum lately and I'm not pleased with that. Honestly, I can't really see any reason why you people would think I'm worth all the effort needed to do a group gift like this. But I am very grateful that you did.

Thanks to Aaron Wallace aka AwallaceUNC, who once again undertook what must be an unenviable task of getting people from all over the globe to collaborate on gift ideas and then see them to fruition. I can't imagine how much time and effort that must have taken - it's so kind of you to do something so huge.

Thanks are also greatly extended to the other twenty-one forum members. I feel like I know all of you pretty well, even the three members who registered this year. To put that (and my memory) to test, without looking at the names on the card (or my Secret Santa files), I'd like to thank: Renata, CJ, Courtney, Bill, Dave, Kelvin, Michele, J. Dan, Krystal, Brandon, Aaron Wi., Chris J., Michael, Amy, Hennie, Sean M., Anne, Reynaldo, Skyler, Sean from Ireland, and Daniel. Nailed it and didn't even have to cheat or check.

Merry Christmas to all! :santa:

P.S. Glad the cards are getting to people. Hopefully they all make it in time for Christmas!

P.P.S. Even gladder that this year's Secret Santa is such a success. With one week til Christmas, we're just waiting on three recipients and I expect two to happen very soon. Thanks so much everyone for making this work so smoothly. Remind me of this if I ever doubt whether Secret Santa is worth running again.

Luke,

We just warmed you to the cockles...what about the sub-cockles...or the meta-cockles? ;)

I certainly don't speak for everyone, but I'm glad you enjoyed the gift the group picked out. I don't know how often you hear this, but: This place ROCKS! Everyone here. And you, to put it in no uncertain terms, are the ringleader.

No disrespect to mods, reviewers or any other site contributors, but I, at the very least, realize that this place is in essence a one man show. I know you spend a lot of time doing this for no other reason than the pure enjoyment of the subject matter and providing a place for a group of people like the UDers to netloiter and waste some bandwidth. :p

I don't know how you did it, but this place has more of a family atmosphere than any other board I've ever posted on. It's kind of a feat in itself that we're a message board on the internet that runs an extremely successful Secret Santa racket every year. I think that speaks to the kind of people that post here.

I feel that for all you put into this site that the very least I can do is use UD Amazon links for everything I buy over there (which is admittedly not much), throw in a few dollars into the pot to buy you a present, and offer to help out reviewing DVDs or whatever else I can do.

Merry Christmas,

Dave

PS: Thanks for the card! Rock on! \m/

You're welcome! I have been waiting on pins in needles for weeks for the USPS to deliver to you. The pkg was sent media mail and I will NEVER AGAIN trust the media mail to get things to my Secret Santa person. They said 6 days on the website for media mail but I guess maybe that info is not for Xmas media mail. I'm so relieved it arrived, I can't tell you!
