Wacky News Stories - Ongoing Thread

Post by Loomis »

The Premise: Wacky News Stories

The Explanation: I'm always getting them in my email, so I had this thought for an ongoing thread here, where people could find wacky news stories from all over the world and post them here. Every newspaper seems to have a "lighter side of" type section, so I thought this would be a good place to find them all and collect them.

Class Participation: I'll post the first few, but I expect you to all join in or you won't get any class participation marks for this semester. So go do you homework people, and brings me wacky stories!

The first wacky story comes from The Australian, but invloves a wacky monkey in Calcutta.

This story will have you watching the Planet of the Apes with a far more serious eye.

32 Brothels in Suburbian Sydney Apartment:

This is disturbing because:
1) I walk past here all the time
2)I have a friend who lives in that street.

I'm trying, but I can't really find anything "wacky" (apart from the Republican's making fake photo's of Kerry for a smear campaign - that sounds pretty "wacky").

Oh, how about this:

A 6ft-wide house in Gwynedd, known locally as the Tardis, has sold for £82,500
That's about $157,575 at the current exchange rate!

This is sad because the guy died, but I think it's pretty wacky nonetheless...

Ooh! People using my thread....
That was "wacky" CatNC!
Must find new news story...

yes, they are from Aussie newspapers, but not all of them are from Australia. This, for example, is about the stinky American toy market:

http://www.news.com.au/common/story_pag ... 62,00.html
Spin Master Ltd is offering 24 different Stink Blasters - kids can squeeze the heads of such characters as Garbage Truck Chuck or Barfin' Ben, releasing foul smells.
I thought kids did just fine by themselves emitting foul odours...

Hahahaha!

I was about to say "What about cows?", but then I read the article.

That's classic.

I think she should have her side upheld :)

This happened a couple weeks ago, and I think we talked about it here, but the kid who was stuck in the "Crane Game" or "Claw Game" I don't know what it's called. :)

Ha! I had heard about that earlier in the year. Nice to see it honoured :D

How about this - this is why church attendance is down ...particualrly New Zealand clergy :P

http://www.news.com.au/common/story_pag ... 62,00.html
PRIESTS in New Zealand, hit by a binge drinker's tax, have been forced to switch to a low alcohol wine in church services, and they complain it does not last long enough.
