Another movie to consider for Academy Awards this year has got to be American Gangster. Denzel Washington's performance is over-the-top, and I think that he will be among the leaders for a nomination this year.

Another candidate for Best Director should be Ben Affleck for Gone Baby Gone. This movie is solid with story, scenery, and just overall total satisfaction as a motion picture. With a cast that includes Casey Affleck and Ed Harris, this movie has some very good Oscar potential.

The Academy announced today that 59 songs are in the running for the Best Original Song category. On January 15 the Academy Music Branch will screen clips from each song then vote to determine if there will be 3, 4 or 5 nominees in the category. The nominees will be announced, of course, on January 22.

Yeah, it's supposed to be the best-reviewed film of the year...

As for the noms, I'm happy for Johnny Depp, Juno, and Enchanted, but I really doubt they'll win much. Juno will probably get away with a few (crosses fingers for Best Screenplay at least), and Enchanted has a pretty good shot at Best Original Song. Do we know which three are nominated? Perhaps Carrie will perform Ever Ever After at the show?

Congrats to all the other nominees! I'm glad the awards this year are spread among a wide range of films. I hate it when its just five or six films getting everything.

Thank you. I so hope the writer's strike is over soon so that all our favorite shows come back and hopefully a real Oscar ceremony, not like the Globes.

I am really happy for Juno's nominations and the movie would deserve at least Best Screenplay. Let's hope for the best.

"So Close" TOTES deserves the nom. Methinks "Enchanted" might pull a "Dreamgirls" and shoot itself in the foot by having three nominations, and "So Close" will win. Just a hunch.

Wish Helena got a nom... but, there you have it.

And who would have EVER thought "Norbit" would be nominated for an Oscar? My word. I certainly hope something else wins in that category.
