Well, say what you want about the film, but it's turning out to be a hit. According to daily estimates it made a surprising $13.5 million its first day! Factor in increased ticket sales for weekend matinees, Alvin and the Chipmunks looks to have an opening gross of over $32 million!!

I saw it today in a pack theater. I thought it was pretty good. Nothing really special. The songs in it are really catchy though! Being a chipmunk fan back in the day I thought it stayed true. I give a 7/10 and would say to go out and rent it before seeing it in the theater.

That'd be kind of hard to do what with it not being available on DVD, unless you're telling us to buy cheap bootleg copies and watch those...Spongebob Squarepants wrote:go out and rent it before seeing it in the theater.

I saw it Friday on opening day in my local town....
I actually liked it... which was something I didn't expect.... It was much better than I thought it would be.... A lot of laughs... Although they kinda abandoned the origin of the Chipmunks such as they were left on his doorstep but then again if they went that route.... I think it would be rated G and it would be a bit hard to swallow... I think they just had the Chipmunks.... and at the beginning of the movie it said Jesse Mcartney was the voice of Theodore.... Not sure if he was the original.. or not
Anyway.... I might see it again but it is a definite buy
I think DVDJunke will like it a lot...
hey the movie could have been about the Chipmunks dissapearing for years and years and then suddenly the make a comeback....or an attempt at a comeback (like the Rolling Stones
) But it was more original
I liked the song they opened the movie with a lot...
So you had a bad day... That song they sing when they get voted off American Idol...
Now at first the movie I was like... oh no its a disaster.... but I stayed and it grew on me... A LOT!!
GET MUNK'D SEE THIS MOVIE
Its a lot of laughs.... I guess as the sayings go
It was a lot better than Garfield I dare say and it was better than the Fat Albert Movie... At Least the characters didn't jump out of the screen into the real world... in Alvin and the Chipmunks......

Lazario, you need to take off those rose-colored glasses and take some time to smell the roses.
This movie is exactly as advertised. It is a holiday movie with a lot of fun built in. It is not an Academy Award-winning movie, it is a BIG step up from being a made-for-television movie, which it was at first supposed to be.
Jason Lee is perfect as the foil for Alvin, Simon and Theodore. And it is probably the best way to spend an hour and a half in a movie and not get blasted with f-bombs and foul language like some of the other so-called "hits of the day" are doing.
The theater I saw this in was filled to the brim with lots of kids with their parents, which is a good thing. The movie definitely will never compare to the cartoon series on television but it wasn't supposed to.
The CGI was done very well, only a couple of times can you see that they were staring at something in place of what would eventually be Chipmunks.
The music will have you singing along, and tapping your toes. And it is definitely a better family movie than either of the "Garfield" flicks, or that disaster called "Fat Albert".
I will probably take my three oldest grandkids back to see it again and will definitely buy this when it comes to DVD. It is a lot of fun, and exactly what movies are supposed to be - ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!

I guess it would be to some people. But not to me. Because I love movies. I MISS comedies where every single thing wasn't freaking trendy or hip. They used to have stories. They used to make movies about animals without using CGI to make them blink and smile and they didn't make movies where every last character in the movie says things like, "sweeeet!" and "baowhm chikka waow waow!" That's all these movies are. And they are the same thing, every frickin' month there are another 5, 10, 15 of these stupid, blasted things. They're all the same. This one's no different.
I miss real entertainment. Sorry, Junkie, who cares if it doesn't swear? The writing is still as idiotic as if it did have a bunch of stoners swearing. It certainly takes a stoner to write half the hipspeak in all these movies.
I cannot support this. It is killing filmmaking. And what it really supports is telling the studios we want all our movies to be the exact same formula. Saying "who cares if it's stupid" so long as it's pleasent. I won't take any part in this.

So it is your fault you wasted free passes on this movie. You didn't have to go see this one you know. There are lots of other good movies out there. You could have gone to see "August Rush", "I Am Legend", or one of the many other good films out there. Why did you pick on "Alvin and the Chipmunks"?

August Rush, of course, isn't one of them.
As for I Am Legend, I am getting a prediction... Something's coming to me, hang on... This will end up one of those movies I don't see for years, like the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean movies. But it's Will Smith. Overrated and Will Smith just go hand in hand. Or, do I mean ham in ham?
