Great.

Is anything from the Special Edition going to be missing from this new edition?

Um, if this movie is so great, then why is the positive quote featured rather largely and soley by itself on the front cover from ABC, TV?

The subpar non-anamorphic transfer, Reiner's solo commentary, "How Harry Met Sally" (33-minute documentary from 2001), the Harry Connick Jr. Music Video ("It Had To Be You"), and the additional trailers for This is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride.

Because the cover designer neglected to include Joel Siegel's name, as it came from his "Good Morning, America" review of the film. The same quote was featured on the old cover as well.

Um, sorry, but... that really sucks. A lot.

The only thing I'm upset at losing is probably the documentary, but I'm guessing the new featurettes will likely cover the same ground, only it'll be said by people recorded this year instead of 6 years ago. The solo commentary from the first release isn't much, it's informative when it needs to be, but is subject to many lengthy gaps of silence. I have a feeling that the new commentary will simply take Reiner's solo track and drop in audio comments by Nora Ephron and Billy Crystal where Reiner doesn't speak. But if it's an entirely new group commentary, that would be better.

The music video is a puff pastry and I don't mind losing it. Also, I'm sure nobody's complaining that the new release will have an (I'm presuming, and it should be) anamorphic transfer and a 5.1 track.

I'm looking forward to this almost as much as I am to the upcoming You've Got Mail SE. Meg Ryan was at the top of her game in both these movies & with the You've Got Mail an old snapper gets thrown out.

Yeah, but it is an original version of that music video, right? It's necessary to put on this disc for completists. Unless it's on YouTube. I'm sorry, but for my money, even if it's bad, it's worth including.

By the way, I think this is the version, found it on YouTube. Thank god they (whoever they are) were nice enough to put it on YouTube, since now you have to buy the old DVD if you want a copy.

I guess you're right about the documentary. But my motto is always, "only add, never subtract."

Completists most likely will have the old disc anyway, it's been an evergreen title ever since it was released. :P

Tell that to Charles de Lauzirika . He adds a lot, but will often subtract anything that was on the previous release (save for trailers). His philosophy was that he doesn't want a consumer who bought the older release to have to pay money for the same bonuses + new bonuses. An odd philosophy, especially since they're paying for the movie again, and especially since there's also the new consumer who doesn't have the older release to consider, but I can kind of understand it.

Still, there's always, as you said, the completist to consider.

Well, after listening to Reiner on Misery... I can now understand what you mean about dryness and gaps. In my mind, Rob Reiner is the new Gap Master of the Audio Commentary. He loves to wait until people aren't talking to comment. But his movies are mostly dialogue driven. Image
