Dr. Syn Climbing at Amazon
Dr. Syn Climbing at Amazon
At 3:00 PM (CST), Saturday 02/14, DR. SYN, ALIAS THE SCARECROW was at the #4 position on Amazon.com's list of top selling DVDs. And this just from pre-orders, twenty-four weeks before the release date - with no details of the disc's contents announced yet. Incredible. (FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR was #3, and DARBY O'GILL was #5.)

Well, these are titles that people have been anticipating on DVD for years. Amazon e-mails these people who have signed up to register interest and voila, they run off to buy it. Aladdin Gift Set is already #10 on our Top Sellers list, Dr. Syn is 11th, Shaggy Dog is 17th, and the original Freaky Friday 18th. And this is just after two days of availability. Darby O'Gill and Three Lives of Thomasina are also in the Top 25.MickeyMousePal wrote:Why are they buying it so early?

Yeah, the catalog titles have quite a cult following. Add to that the fact that stores seldom carry them or list them in the ads in favor of bigger releases with marketing pushes, and it's natural to either order online or have a store specifically order them in for you.
Me, I don't do online ordering much, even though I do window shop online way more than I should.
I'm really eager to get my name down for the Aladdin gift set, especially since I seem to have missed out on the TLK one, but I'll wait until Disney Store starts preorders on it to see what they'll give away. I hope you can preorder the gift set in store this time!

Everybody seems to rave about this Dr. Syn, Alias Scarecrow.
Is it really that good, or is it nostalgia value? There is not much about it in Leonard Maltin's book, but it does sound intriguing.
I'm lazy - please direct me to the world's most exciting Dr. Syn webiste, please!

Loomis,
Yes, it's really that good! At least I think so, and apparently so do a bunch of Amazonians. "Dr. Syn," like so many Disney films, is all about great atmosphere and a great cast. Here's a website for ya:

Enjoy

I'll have to go and look at my copy of Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Apparently, he is part of the 18th Century League!

Strange, was not you (Disney Guru) around 15/16?
Then you can not have bought it when it came out?
It was released to video 1986
And oohh, was it not you that critizied another on this board when he/she said that he/she had bought bootleg DVDs?
Now you said that you had done it yourself?
Humprh...tsk...tsk..
No Loomis, is not so extremly good as many says.Loomis wrote:Everybody seems to rave about this Dr. Syn, Alias Scarecrow.

I find it rather stiffed and wooden-acted - as many of the costumedramas that Disney made for TV in the 50´s and 60´s.
But it´s a interesting piece though, and you should really see it if you liked Zorro and The Prince and the Pauper (from the 60´s).
I think many people had raise this film to the sky just because it has been so difficult to obtain a real copy of it.
Good that this will change now - now everyone can own it!
A little push on the nose to the people at Ebay (for an example) that have milked BIG MONEY from all and everyone that wanted this Disneyana-piece.

Just kidding...
Very cool site, I might add. I like a site that is well-organized.
Between the two sites here, I am most interested in this character now.
I'm at work presently, and we don't seem to have anything by Russell Thorndike at all. Must...check....out...books....
