I loved 'The Gorgon' too. Some very fun, gothic imagery in this one.

Damn I'm good. :D Sontarans' return confirmed by the BBC
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cul ... 9473.shtml

I wouldn't be surprised if the story features the old woman from the Sarah Jane Adventures and her husband (obviously earlier in their lives).

I'm taking this with a pinch of salt

http://www.dailystar.co.uk:80/news/view ... r-hooray-/
DOCTOR Who bosses are set to call back FOUR of the Time Lord’s favourite assistants – including Billie Piper – for a sensational showdown.

The old cast members will be reunited to help the Doc fight evil Dalek creator Davros in an explosive finale to the next series.

Even the Time Lord’s dog K-9 will make an appearance.

“Fans will be thrilled,” said a senior TV source. “With four of the Doctor’s assistants in one show it’s a dream come true.”

Leading the way in the line-up will be Billie, 25, as Rose Tyler along with the rest of the Tyler family – mum Jackie (Camille Coduri, 41), dad Pete (Shaun Dingwall, 37) and boyfriend Mickey (Noel Clarke, 31). They will hook up with the Tardis traveller’s latest assistants Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman, 28) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate, 39).

Also on hand to help out the Doc (David Tennant, 36) will be his old companion Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen, 59) as well as Torchwood boss Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman, 40).

The TV source said: “This is the daddy of all shows. The writer Russell T Davies really wants to pull out all the stops for the finale next year.”

TV gossips say the next series will be the last overseen by Davies, 44, the man who revived the BBC sci-fi smash hit three years ago.

But he will also work on three more hour-long specials, due to be screened in 2009.
Personally, I doubt this will happen. But I would love to see Jackie again. But I have to put this down to tabloid rubbish - especially as I'm hearing Sontaran/Rutan war for the finale of Series 4.

Oh, if one of those 2009 hour-long specials isn't a crossover with The Sarah Jane Adventures, I'll eat my hat. Perhaps this is where the story came from... all three specials will be a Dalek/Davros epic?

Isn't the Sarah Jane Adventures brilliant? It's been a long time since we had something on Children's TV which is just as entertaining for adults. This show is channeling Season Sixteen Doctor Who almost flawlessly.

I really hope we have a proper Doctor Who/Sarah Jane Adventures crossover soon - I can't wait and see how Maria and Luke would react to The Doctor (and vice-versa)

Well, the BBC has finally confirmed "a very special Doctor Who episode" for this year's Children-in-Need charity telethon, but beyond that are saying nothing. Long time readers may remember this is rumoured to be a Tenth Doctor meets Fifth Doctor event.

Also browsing the BBC Press Releases I saw this:

John Barrowman to host prime time BBC One show The Kids Are All Right
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressr ... kids.shtml

I wonder if Barrowboy actually turns work down? It would appear not. At all. Ever.

The upcoming Doctor Who Magazine (Issue 389)

Peter Davison is The Doctor! ... and so is David Tennant

Yes, it's official. The Doctor Who event for the Children-In-Need telethon is a 5th Doctor/10th Doctor crossover called "Time Crash" written by Steven Moffat.

Good news for fans of Davison, Tennant and Moffat. Oh, that's me! :D

Sarah Jane Adventures Overload

The series just gets better and better! And this week's CBBC episode only had Jane Asher in it. Jane "party cakes" Asher! Sadly, with no cakes, but talk of parties. And it had a mysterious hooded entitiy. And the Graske. And a meteor about to destroy the Earth. And corrupted time lines. And it was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. The best children's TV for years and years.

Talking of Sarah Jane, the BBC Press office has released information on the first part of the SJA series finale:
Sarah Jane and the gang face some old alien enemies again, along with an altogether unexpected foe, in the final two-part adventure of the series.

A news report on a couple looking for their missing son, Ashley, brings a surprise for Sarah Jane when she discovers that the missing boy looks exactly like Luke. And when Mr Smith, Sarah Jane's super-computer, confirms that Luke is a genetic match with Ashley, Sarah Jane sends him back to live with his "parents".

But, with no knowledge of his former life, Luke finds it hard to fit in and, when he tries to escape, he makes a startling discovery about who his parents really are.

Sarah Jane, meanwhile, makes some investigations into the Pharos Para-Science Institute – a research unit that has been conducting experiments using alien technology.
I also picked up Sarah Jane Adventures: Invasion of the Bane today. I've not put it in the player yet, but I intend to as soon as I finished typing this post. The extras are a little thing considering the main feature is only 60mins (surely we could of had a commentary too?) but they are:

* Trailers (TV Trailers for Invasion of the Bane and the Series 3 Dr Who boxset)
* Character and Alien profiles
* Elisabeth Sladen Interview
* Blue Peter Visits the Set
* Behind the Scenes Photo Gallery
* Timeline Chart of Sarah Jane Smith's journey from journalist to time traveller and beyond, with approx 30 mins of video clips, photographs and facts.

Finally, I found this YouTube Doctor Who video which I think is excellent - some masterful use of quick cuts to show similarities over the many years the show has been on air.

Doctor Who: TARDIS Trip - 44 years in 4 minutes.

And the Children in Need special gets a Radio Times cover.

http://www.gallifreyone.com/picview.php ... eCrash.jpg

We've come a long way since the show couldn't get any mention what-so-ever in the Radio Times in the 80s.

My Amazon exclusive Series 3 DVD set has shipped, but stupidly I chose the Free Supersaver shipping, so it probably won't come until the end of the week.

I have however got my Doctor Who: The Infinite Quest animated DVD. I'll watch that tonight or later in the week.

Another year, another DVD set balls up.

But this time it affects the R1 copy!
Commentaries: we got the podcast on Last of the Timelords which is severely disappointing i was looking forward to listening to Barrowman, Tennant, and Agyeman, and the listing is therefore wrong in the booklet (as its the TARDIS crew that was listed for the commentary)
Yes, the R1 set doesn't have the newly recorded commentary featuring the TARDIS crew, but the old BBC Podcast commentary. (Actually I'm not sure this is a balls up, as the podcast commentary is excellent and very funny while being informative).

update: A semi-official response (given by Outpost Gallifrey's unofficial BBC Video liasion)
For the attention of the North American Region 1 readers...

Yes, there appears to have been a terrible mistake on our edition of this box set. The commentary track on "Last of the Time Lords" is the old podcast one and not the one that's on the Region 2 edition which has David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, and John Barrowman.

I do not yet know how and why this happened. I have asked BBC Worldwide Americas about it, and they've yet to get back to me on this. I think it was news to them. I say "appears to have been" above just in case this was for some bizarre reason done deliberately, but I can't imagine why unless John Barrowman breaks into some unclearable song or something on the R2 commentary.

(I didn't get a review copy this time, so the first I heard of this problem was reading about it here today and the confirming it with my store-bought copy tonight.)

Well, the Children in Need special has been aired, and will be available soon online (for one week only) on the following address:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/onthenight/ ... rwho.shtml

I thought it was very funny. Best line was "What have you done to my TARDIS? You've changed the desktop theme. Which one is this? Coral?" and a good little line about fans and LInDA. I also liked the "You were my Doctor" at the end, which pretty much sums up my story too.

Oh and according to this month's Doctor Who Magazine, Stephen Moffat has been comissioned to write the script(s) for the Dreamworks Tintin movies! I knew it was only time before Hollywood noticed and come a calling, but I wasn't expecting Speilberg and Jackson to be the first callers!

Okay. I don't care what anyone says, The Sarah Jane Adventures is a terrific show!
I'm not at all ashamed to say I cried during two episodes (Eye of the Gorgon and The Lost Boy). Nor am I exaggerating if I say I cheered during the finale. This show turned out to be sĂł much more than I thought it would... Good job, Davies!

Terrible News

It is with great sadness that I report that Doctor Who's first producer, Verity Lambert died yesterday aged 71. Verity will be remembered for so much more than Doctor Who - be it for any one of her iconic productions, from Minder to Jonathan Creek, A Cry in the Dark to The Naked Civil Servant or May to December to Budgie; or for the fact that she was the first female BBC drama producer and her energy and determination helped to shake up the "old boys club" atmosphere of the BBC in the 1960s.

Verity was awarded an O.B.E. in 2002 for services to film and television, and also that year was awarded BAFTA's Alan Clark award for Outstanding Contribution to Television. The fact that only two years before, two of her productions (Doctor Who and The Naked Civil Servant) were placed third and fouth in the Top 100 Greatest British Television Programmes of the 20th Century in a British Film Insitute Poll shows why both awards were so clearly deserved.

It's somewhat bittersweet that we hear news of her death yesterday today of all days - The 23rd of November - exactly 44 Years since the first episode of Doctor Who was shown.

Goodbye Verity. All I know is your hard work in the 60's set the foundations for a show that has - and will continue - to delight, entertain, amuse and, yes, even slightly scare millions upon millions on wide-eyed children. As proud as I am of the success of the resurrected Doctor Who, I can only imagine your pride was hundreds of times stronger than my own.

Here is some interesting news on the Doctor Who front:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/4289893a1869.html

The makers of smash-hit sci-fi series Doctor Who are rumoured to be seeking Tom Cruise to guest-star in a special episode of the British cult-classic.

The Lions for Lambs actor is among a host of top US stars, including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Madonna, who the BBC are supposedly hoping to get on board for three movie-length instalments of the series to be filmed next year.

An insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "BBC producers know they can't pay these stars what they are used to, but what they can offer is an exciting role in a real cutting-edge show. And the big stars love that kind of kudos."

Doctor Who already has a track record of attracting top stars for cameos.

This year's Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned, will see Kylie Minogue play a waitress at the 1912 launch party for the famously doomed ocean liner the Titanic, which sank after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage.

The three Doctor Who specials will be shot in 2008, but will not hit screens until 2009.

The three specials are rumoured to be the final time actor David Tennant will play the time-travelling Doctor.

It is also believed 25-year-old actress Billie Piper - who quit the show in 2006 to pursue other projects - will return to play The Doctor's sexy sidekick Rose Tyler in an episode of the show's fourth series, which is filming now.

Rumours abound that The Doctor's current companion, Donna Noble, played by British comedian Catherine Tate, will have a cross-dimensional chat with Piper's Rose after it appears the Doctor has died.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being the big Madonna fan that I am, I would LOVE to see her appear!

I think the production team are delusional. It's one thing to get actors who are British and know the programme from its last 40+ years on British TV - even Kylie knew of Doctor Who long, long, long before being asked to appear from it playing in Australia since the 60's. But to get Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt or Madonna?!? My mind boggles.

It's either typical newspaper hype or Russell T Davies has gone batty.

But talking of Billie Piper's return...
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u300 ... F1479H.jpg

This disappoints me greatly. Doctor Who has always been about looking forward and moving on to the next thing. Yes, some monsters and characters have returned - Monsters especially, but Rose left in a ending which would have it's whole emotional core undermined if she were to return.

I hear the Doctor "Lite" episode this year will be like Sliding Doors, and show the lives of various companions before they met the Doctor, and what would happen in an alternative life if they never did. Rose, Martha and Captain Jack are supposed to be starring. This is much more satisfying than a return of Rose in continuity.

What does knowing of Doctor Who have to do with anything? You don't think Madonna, who is nearing 50, has ever heard of Doctor Who? Madonna, who has adopted a British lifestyle? Madonna, who has mentioned, on several occassions, that she enjoys the series? I don't know if Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt has any interest in it, but, Madonna has mentioned her love for the series in several interviews, where they asked why she has a love affair with the British. So, that blows your theory out of the water, at least where she is concerned.

Well of course knowing the series is a big issue. You clearly don't understand how TV works over here - especially the BBC which is publicly funded. The money being offered will be mind-staggeringly small, even bearing in mind it gets about 10m domestic viewers and probably another 10m overseas.

When you can't pay the money, you're asking people to do it for one of two reasons: love or because they like the script. But of course, for the latter, you have to persuade them to read the script in the first place, so love will still come into it to some extent. And they can't love it unless they are familiar with the show, the writer or perhaps the lead actor[s].

Extras only managed to get its star cameos on the strength of The [BBC] Office. People loved Rickey Gervais. Also, I suspect the fact it was co-funded by HBO more than likely helped because the cameos were also assured that they would get a US presence on a respected cable channel (and probably enabled more money to be paid too).

I understand Brad Pitt regrets his role on Friends now, the chances of him appearing in Doctor Who which is can be just as funny, but is always (for want of a better word) "camp" to some extent…

As for Madonna, I must admit I never knew she liked the show. But I can't see, in all honesty any US star wanting to do Doctor Who. How many US stars fall over themselves to appear in Star Trek for example, which undoubtedly has/had more kudos.? I know there's a few (Christian Slater, Kelsey Grammer… ) but I suspect the number is small. Abrams hasn't managed to bag a cameo from his pal Tom Cruise for his upcoming Trek movie for example. So talk of Cruise on Doctor Who does seem "delusional" (to me at any rate).

Besides, we've had loads of stories like this in the past in UK papers, from Britney Spears as a killer robot to Sir Ben Kingsley as Davros. It's just fillers, probably leaked by the WHO production office to keep in the news or throw people off the scent of other stories (in this case, Billie coming back as Rose).

Update: Too many leaks, the BBC has been forced to confirm the return of Rose

Rose is back for 3 episodes? One can only hope she brings along Jackie.

Hehe...was just thinking. The last time the Doctor traveled with 3 companions was with Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan...

Tegan=Donna - because both are loudmouths
Nyssa=Martha - because both are smart and hot
Adric=Rose - because both are associated with alternate universes (but would E-Space count as an alternate universe?)

No...wait...scratch that all. The last time the Doc had 3 companions was with Sarah Jane, K-9, and Rose...

I can see it now. My dream ending. The Climax to the season finale. Dalek Cann, the last Dalek in the whole of time and space has tracked down Davros, creator of the Daleks and together the pair are about to create a whole new Army of Daleks.

The Doctor aided by Donna, Martha and Rose try to stop them, by destroying the Dalek production line. Using his sonic screwdriver, the Doctor manages to disable Cann, only to be grazed by one of the Dalek's wild ray shots. Screaming the Doctor falls to the floor clutching his injured arm in agony. Immediately Rose and Martha run over and "angst" over the pain their unrequited love is experiencing, leaving them wide open for a sneak attack from Davros, who knows them both cold with an electic blast from his writhered hand. Donna screams "Oy!" and runs over, only to be blasted herself.

Davros laughs. Not only has he got the Doctor and his companions in his power, but Cann who would possibly have rebelled against Davros' own plans of power is dead. And the Doctor's TARDIS is his for the taking. Now he can turn on the production line, create a new, improved army of Daleks and conquer the whole of time and space.

Then the TARDIS doors open, and Jackie comes out holding a tea pot. "Was it one lump of two Doctor?" she askes "I can never remember…" she stops looking at the carnage before her, before turning on the startled Davros. "'Ere, sup on this frog face!" she yells throwing the scolding hot tea on Davros. Screaming, Davros looses control of his chair and backs away, falling into the primeval soup that is the basic generic martial of the Kaled Mutants. His death is assured.

The Doctor has recovered and hugs Jackie, before tending to his fallen companions. THE WHOLE OF TIME AND SPACE IS SAVED BY JACKIE TYLER. The End.

I love the first two seasons of the new Doc Who but i never got into the third season. I don't own any of the series on dvd, i can only watch them if they play on sci-fi channel.

I do wish they bring back Rose, i really don't know what to think about Martha (i think that's her name in the third season).
