I live in the USA - if I buy the MMM Region 2 DVD, can I just play this on my Region-free DVD player or is there some other issue with say, PAL? My husband seems to think it won't play right because it is in PAL. Has anyone here (living in the USA) bought the Region 2 MMM DVD and played it on a region-free player here in USA?Billy Moon wrote:Since you're not in the UK yourself, just import it from Scandinavia.

Its hard to say. Most DVD players these days are made capable of playing NTSC and PAL, and converting one to another. This is simply a matter of economics. Its easier to design, develop and build one chipset and then just region lock it with a simply software utility.Pluto Region1 wrote:I live in the USA - if I buy the MMM Region 2 DVD, can I just play this on my Region-free DVD player or is there some other issue with say, PAL? However, if you have a older machine, or one which has specifically been designed and build for an American market, its possible you won't be able to play PAL discs.
If you have a region free DVD drive in a PC, then this will play PAL discs fine, no matter when or where the driver was purchased, as your DVD player software manages the playback.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Thanks! I'll have to check more w/my husband. This may be enough info for him to make a determination.2099net wrote:

If anyone has bought the Region2 DVD of MMM to play in USA, please post about your experience.

Hey guys! I ordered Make Mine Music from axelmusic.com last Saturday, and today the postman arrived with it at my front door.
I'm always fascinated with receiving oversees post, and I liked thinking of how this DVD had travelled all the way from Denmark. Call me batty, but that's the way I am.
I am very happy with the DVD. Video quality surpassed my expectations. However, it is overall a mixed bag. Some segments look very pleasing, sporting an impeccably clean picture. Others are rather spotty and scratchy (or murky, as UD's review describes them). All in all, the presentation is acceptable.
I didn't quite enjoy this film as the other package features. A couple of the segments didn't work with me at all. That is not to say I disliked them. They simply didn't tickle and delight like some of the stuff from Melody Time. My two least favourite segments from Make Mine Music are "The Martins and the Coys" and "Casey at the Bat". My favourite two are "Peter and the Wolf" and "The Whale who wanted to sing at the Met". I consider the latter to be first-rate Disney and a very poignant note on which to end the animated feature.
What I certainly disliked about Make Mine Music was the linking material between the segments. It somewhat destroys the effect of the segment it follows, thus making me think of the epigrammatic tendency of Shakespearean sonnets in their concluding couplets. What does MMM have to do with poetry, you ask? Well, the way the linking material diminishes and trivialises the potency of the preceding segment echoes the way the concluding couplet of a Shakespearean sonnet diminishes and trivialises the subject matter of the said sonnet.

I don't have the box at hand at this moment (it's at home and I'm at work), but I'm quite sure the box is black/greyish the way I received it (ordered it through AxelMusic.dk).Jeffel wrote:Is the box blue? That is my primary concern here.
But why are you primarily concerned about the color of the box??

It's not been cut per se, but it's been digitally touched up to flatten the girl's bust in the All the Cats Join In segment. Still, I guess it's the best version available on DVD today, and you'll probably not notice the edits at all unless you freeze-frame the film at exactly the right moment.Tony wrote:I'd just like to confirm this is the un-cut version ?

If you want a completely untouched version, you'll have to find an old VHS or laserdisc release.

I am most interested in obtaining 'The Martins and the Coys", which I saw on Youtube yesterday for the first time since I was a child. I also watched 'All the Cats join in'. The scene with the girl stepping out of the shower is so fast, I did have to slow it down too see the edit. That slight cut is not an issue for me personally, even if I don't like them tampering with the original. I'm going to buy the DVD now.

Here's the YouTube link for "The Martins and the Coys":

I just watched it- there's no reason why it should have been deleted! I mean, some people could assume that "hillbillies" shoot people all the time. But Cruella De Vil may make people think that anyone who wears fur wants to kill puppies (I don't wear fur, and I don't think that, but I'm just saying!). Or that the brothers of kings are out to kill their family members!

I don't think they were worried about what kind of image of "hillbillies" they're portraying, but rather about the guns themselves and the amount of "violence", and probably thought kids could get the wrong impression and start mimicing such behaviour.blackcauldron85 wrote:I just watched it- there's no reason why it should have been deleted! In Scandinavia, there hasn't been reason for such fear. That is, until last Wednesday. (But of course I don't think this film had anything to do with it.)

All I need are Snow White, 101 Dalmatians, Beauty and the Beast and Fantasia 2000. I could swap you a Chicken Little for Beauty and the Beast if you like.SegaGary wrote:Got me my copy from Axel Music through the post. Cant be happier really.
