Ultimate Disney Forum 2007 Secret Santa - WISH LIST Thread

Post by Luke »

Twenty-six forum members are participating in this year's Forum Secret Santa. All random assignments have been made and you should be finding out who you will be buying presents for by Wednesday.

This thread is designed to help the forum member who will be getting you a present to know your interests and of some specific items you might like to receive. If you have a list of DVDs or CDs you own, you may want to post a link to that so your Secret Santa can consider getting you something you don't have that they think you'd like. If you're in the United Kingdom and prefer to have Region 2 DVDs, make that clear and perhaps post links to some e-tailers you recommend for ease and English-friendliness. Or you could even just say a little bit about yourself (your age, hobbies or favorites) that could spark some gift ideas.

Post as many or few items as you'd like. Remember that the recommended amount to spend on this is $20, and while there's freedom to go a little over that if you can/want to, you may very well just be getting one thing - be it a DVD, book, CD, or something else.

If you have any additional questions that you think might apply to everyone, feel free to post them here. And remember once you have your assigned recipient to keep that a secret. Until you sent out your gift, at which point you should make it clear who you are (forum name too). Thanks to all who are participating - let's make this lots of fun!

OK - I've given this some thought, well actually I haven't but.....

First let me just make it clear that whoever gets me as their assignment should NOT spend more than $20, it really is the thought that counts!

Well I guess the most obvious ideas for me would be disney gifts. My favourite characters ever are Flora Fauna and Merryweather. We have no merchandise or even Disney stores where you can buy their merchandise here, but looking on the internet, I do like the look of those sleeping beauty figure sets they have and the Flora Fauna and Merryweather plush dolls!

As for DVDs, yeah region 2 is preferable, but one DVD that I would love to have is "Eloise at Christmastime" - which is only available in region 1, I don't mind receiving region 1 DVDs at all, as I have a multi-region player.

You're welcome to get me any DVDs, but I already have all the DACs and Musicals made by disney (Mary Poppins, Bedknobs..etc). I have all availble TV series DVDs of Cybill, Will & Grace, Bewitched and Golden Girls too.

Wow, I came into this thinking I'd have loads of ideas, but I really don't - the things I listed above are things I've wanted for ages but just never got round to ordering from the US.

Other ideas for gifts:

A book on singing - particularly classical technique
A book on Broadway

If I think of anything else I'll be back I promise!! I hope this helps my secret Santa!

Oh, I should also mention that I'm a young male.

Age: 27
Gender: Female
Hobbies/Info: I collect unicorns, donkeys, and mermaids. I don't suggest getting anything unicorn as I have a LOT (500+), I love adding more but unless you either get what I listed or a one of a kind kind of unicorn, I probably already have it. :P My mermaid and donkey collection is much smaller. :) I absolutely love reading. If you have a book idea that you think I might like, but didn't mention, surprise me! I love books on mythology, animals, cryptozoology (study of unknown animals), etc. I love encyclopedias and reference works on monsters, creatures, vampires, etc. I live in the USA, so region 1 DVDs only. And I think that is it....on with the wishlist

Bold are things I really want

In no particular order:

DVDs:
The Dark Crystal (25th Anniversary Edition)
Labyrinth (Anniversary Edition)
Rocky Horror Picture Show (Widescreen)

PC Games:
Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania, African Adventure, or Endangered Species Expansion
Age of Empires III: War Chiefs Expansion Pack
Paraworld

Books:
The Sorcerer's Companion: A Guide to the Magical World of Harry Potter
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight, Volume 1: The Long Way Home (Graphic Novel)
Fabulous Creatures and Other Magical Beings by Joel Levy

Cryptozoology A To Z: The Encyclopedia of Loch Monsters, Sasquatch, Chupacabras, and Other Authentic Mysteries of Nature by Loren Coleman and Jerome Clark

Misc:
Unicorns 2008 Calendar by Susan Seddon Boulet
ANY My Little Pony unicorn EXCEPT Styling Pony Rarity. I have her, but don't have any of the new unicorn ponies.
Avenging Unicorn Playset
Unicorn Puzzle
Unicorn Puzzle #2
Unicorn Vs. Narwhal Set

I have a very eccentric taste in things. LOL I kept everything $20 and below. Please do not spend more than that. I can't wait to get assigned my person and go shopping :D

I tend to love DVD special features and 'old Hollywood'. Of course anything Disney (especially the rare) and film nostalgia in general is right up my alley. I have hundreds of DVDs so you may want to stay with the list, but if I get something I already have that's fine too....as some have already stated, it truly is the thought that counts. I think that is part of the fun. If you have a favorite old movie, or know something good about film history out there...suprise me! What a time to share :)

I would like to begin by saying thank you for whatever I get, dear Santa. It's fantastic!

Now, I tend to collect DVDs in categories (weird I know). Below are categories of DVDs that I collect and missing films from my collection (some are rather expensive, but they are more there for you to get an idea of what I like....I honestly don't expect anything Criterion, I mean....come on  ). I'll bold the ones I really want:

David Lean films:
A Passage to India
Great Expectations (Criterion Collection)
Oliver Twist (Criterion Colleciton)

Steven Spielberg films:
Twilight Zone: The Movie
The Terminal (3 Disc Collector's Set)

Frank Capra:
State of the Union
Lady for a Day
Platinum Blonde

Sydney Pollack films:
Tootsie
The Yakuza

Otto Preminger films:
The Cardinal (2 Disc Collector's Edition)
Anatomy of a Murder
Advise and Consent

Disney films:
The Strongest Man in the World
Big Red (Widescreen Edition)
Charlie, the Lonesome Cougar
The Bears and I (Widescreen Edition)
The Castaway Cowboy
The Littlest Horse Thieves (Widescreen Edition)
The Unidentified Flying Oddball

Various DVDs:
Avanti!
The Black Stallion (original 1979 Francis Ford Coppola/Carol Ballard version)
Planet of the Apes (original 1968 - 2 Disc Special Edition) (I REALLY want this one)
The Jazz Singer (3-Disc Collector's Edition)
Wuthering Heights (Lawrence Olivier and Merle Oberon version)
Ball of Fire (with Barbara Stanwyck)
My Man Godfrey (Criterion Collection)
The Lady Vanishes (Criterion Collection....there is a new rerelease with a new transfer!)
Sergeant York (2 Disc Collector's Edition)
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
Black Narcissus (Criterion Collection)
The Big Heat
The Guns of Navarone (2 Disc Collector's Edition)
The Hospital (I love Paddy Chayefsky's writing)
A Boy and His Dog
The Duellists
Barry Lyndon - newly rereleased with a new transfer
Lolita (Stanley Kubrick version) - newly rereleased with a new transfer
Virtually any epic film on DVD:
Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan
The Mission (2 Disc Collector's Edition)
The Robe
Malcom X (2 Disc Collector's Edition)
The English Patient (2 Disc Collector's Edition)
Any documentaries on film or film history:
I love the 100 years DVD sets (I have them all so don't get them, but anything like them from AFI)
I love the 20 Century Fox first 50 years and blockbuster years DVD sets (again I have them, but anything like them)
Biographies on famous celebrities (i.e. Shirley Temple, John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor, etc. etc. etc.)

Wishful Thinking:
Blade Runner (5 Disc Collector's Set)
Stanley Kubrick: Warner Home Video Director's Series boxed set

CDs:
Soundtrack to "The Green Hornet" 1960s TV series
http://www.amazon.com/Green-Hornet-Robe ... 634&sr=1-1
Soundtrack to "Bedknobs and Broomsticks"
http://www.amazon.com/Bedknobs-Broomsti ... 709&sr=1-1
Soundtrack to "The Happiest Millionaire"
http://www.amazon.com/Happiest-Milliona ... 32-9562554

Virtually any books on film history, making of movies, biographies, and Disney stuff.

A Wii points card

So there you have it. That is virtually everything that I look up anymore when I go window shopping online. I hope this gives you a good idea of what my likes are and hopefully you have a ton of fun finding something. Again thank you (thanks for even making it all the way through the list  ), and happy holidays!!!

Yes, I suppose it's fair.... If it's in the right thread. This wishlist thread is made specifically for Secret Santa participants. There's usually a seperate wishlist thread for others near the end of November.

As for my wishlist.... It's a work in progress. :P

Such examples include:

Not trying to be rude either, but if you wanted to be a part of it, you should have signed up. If you have regrets, that is understandable, but the above statement made me even think you did sign up till PPF mentioned otherwise. Its kinda deceiving. Just give it time for the other wish list to open up and repost it there. By then, I bet you'll know even more things you hope your family and friends will get you. But I think this one should be reserved for participants only to keep confusion down.

Luke kinda made it clear this was for Secret Santa participants:

I could be totally wrong, but if you are a new member, you may not be allowed to join. I could be wrong. This is my first year participating in Secret Santa, but I have been a member of the forum for a couple of years. I am sure Luke or someone else who has participated in this before would know more than me about it.

Yes I sent the email right before I posted my post in the other "Secret Santa" thread. :?

Btw, I signed up March 29.
I mean it's fine if I didn't get picked, I'm not complaining. I was just wondering why. 8)

I want...my own country. :D If my Secret Santa's REALLY Santa, he'll get it for me. ;)

All right, so here's my DVD wishlist from DVDAficionado:

http://aiwkid.dvdaf.com/wish-list/already-released

I know there's a lot on there, so if you need some narrowing down, here are the 30 DVDs on that list I want most (the majority of these are under 20 bucks):

All About Eve
Anastasia: Family Fun Edition
Beauty and the Beast: The Criterion Collection
The Bible Collection
The Bible Series
Big: Extended Edition
Bringing Up Baby: Special Edition
Broadway: The American Musical
Bye Bye Birdie
Charade: The Criterion Collection
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (any season)
The Gospel According to Saint Matthew
The Graduate: 40th Anniversary Edition
The Harvey Girls
Holiday Inn: Special Edition
Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows
The Mary Tyler Moore Show (any season)
The Muppet Show (any season)
The Pirate
A Star is Born
Selena: 10th Anniversary Edition
Some Like It Hot: Collector's Edition
Summer Stock
Sunset Boulevard: Special Collector's Edition
The Ten Commandments: 50th Anniversary Collection
That's Dancing
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre: Special Edition
Throughly Modern Millie
To Kill A Mockingbird: Universal Legacy Series
Veronica Mars (any season)

Of course, you're welcome to get me anything else from my DVDAficionado wishlist, or any film you'd think I'd like based on my selections (just check the "owned" section of that link to make sure I don't already have it).

As for books, here's what I'm interested in getting:

The Annotated Alice: Definitive Edition
The Annotated Wizard of Oz: Centennial Edition
The Annotated Brothers Grimm
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide by Douglas Adams
The Complete Tales and Poems of Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
Stardust: The Visual Companion
The Golden Compass: 10th Anniversary Edition by Phillip Pullman
The Subtle Knife: 10th Anniversary Edition by Phillip Pullman
The Amber Spyglass: 10th Anniversary Edition by Phillip Pullman
The Book of God: The Bible as a Novel by Walter Wangerin
The Disney Dossiers by Jeff Kurtti
The Disney Treasures by Robert Tieman
The Disney Keepsakes by Robert Tieman
The Art and Flair of Mary Blair by John Canemaker

And if you're super rich, really love me, and are feeling especially generous, I certainly won't stop you from the following...;)

Sleeping Beauty Snowglobe
Aladdin Snowglobe
Peter Pan Snowglobe
Winnie the Pooh Snowglobe

Let's see...as you're already well aware, I'm a huge Alice in Wonderland fan, so any merchandise from that film would be good, too. Since such merchandise is hard to find in stores, I'd suggest ebay. If you're worried about what Alice goodies I've already got, rest assured. All I own are two snowglobes (one with Alice in the Drink Me bottle, another of the Mad Tea Party), a mini Mad Hatter plush, two PVC figurines of the Hatter and Hare, a Mad Hatter watch, the soundtrack, and the DVD. So your horizon for Alice memorabilia is pretty wide open.

I think this is more than enough to give you an idea of what I want. Now if your name is Bill Gates, then I'm fully expecting every item on this list, including the private country. Otherwise, I'll be happy with whatever you pick out; I'm easy to please. Thanks in advance!

Such awesome lists! I can't wait till Wednesday and I can start shopping :D :D :D I am so glad I joined this. I love giving gifts and the idea I can send my gift off to someone I've never even met is cool to me :) Make someone's Christmas extra special in a small way. :D

I am probably the easiest person to shop for when it comes to my Secret Santa. My Wish List is not extensive and not outrageously extravagant, like some are, and all of my wants are within the $20 suggested price range.

Here goes:

Disney DVD's I am missing:

Son of Flubber
Make Mine Music
Snowball Express

Movies I would like: (all widescreen, of course

Oceans 13
Basket Case - 20th Anniversary Special Edition
Re-Animator 2-Disc Special Edition
Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker'sApocalypse

That is all that is on my wish list for my Secret Santa. I told you I was easy.

:)
