What's up everybody?

Post by Alice »

:D I can't believe my login stuff still works.

I found this place while searching for pictures of the Spice Girls limited edition boxset.

I haven't been on here in AGES, so I bet ya'lls forgot about me. :(

This place hasn't changed at all! [except for the banner....naturally  ]

So how is everyone? :P

Hello! I wondered what in the world had happened to you. I remember you said you were thinking about taking a break, for a while. I didn't forget about you, though. I have had a message in my Outbox for you, forever. I figured you might eventually log in, and get it. LOL! I see that you finally did. Nice to see you back!

I dislike being thought of as a new person, even though I am new compared to a lot of people. I'm a long time overly analytical Disney fan, if that makes up for it. I simply didn't have the internet in 2002, nor did this forum exist at the time.

Hmph.

Did you think Beauty and the Beast was weird, too?

Why? Because the 2002 edition was visually brighter than the original? Mm-hm. The discs came with fairly nice bonus features, though.

Weird in which way Laz?

Do you mean she getting inlove of a beast, the little detail of everything having life when the curse had effect but beast had very few servants after the curse wore off? The detail of how old was beast when the curse was set...

"Enchantress: 'O.K., since you learned your lesson, I'll let you stay young and hot.' " - Disney Duster.
(He worded it a little differently, but his way wasn't chronologically or grammatically correct.)

Not really any of those reasons.

One thing I've mentioned on numerous occasions is the way that the townspeople following Gaston seemed very patronizing. I mean, yes for that time period it was believable. And this movie may have had a big hand in establing this as a cliche- so I can only barely call it cliched. However... it sure wasn't a smooth way of the movie getting it's point across. And then, the added music makes it feel - you're gonna love this - cartoony.

I thought the movie's balance of silly with serious was very weird, unsubtle, and clumsy. So, I never thought the movie drummed up the proper emotion in the viewer for the situations onscreen. It only seems to work in a very sappy way. So, that made the romance feel a bit decorative and not deep. That in itself is a cliche, of course. One I know I can get away with tagging to this movie.

The other thing I know I've mentioned is the way that Belle falls in love with The Beast. Basically, she's all too fast and easy to forgive and ignore his angry tantrums - which go on during the serious moments - when she's curious. She wants to search the West Wing, with that playful girlishness. Like she doesn't have a care in the world. What- did she forget that she was upset to the point of breaking down in tears at the Beast's treatment of her??

That made me feel as though, even though she was portrayed as ahead of her time for that era in history, she was also still being portrayed as light-or-bubble headed as well. Making it even harder to connect with her. Strangely enough, I actually don't think I can fault the Beast character for any of this. His character comes off perfectly for me. Not ideally, but for the purposes of the film, I think he works. But it's basically his story. And Belle, the independent and free thinker... not enough effort is put into developing her.

Or they took the easy way out. Like I know they did with that absolutely absurd sequence of Gaston freaking out the towns people. It was just an abrupt and out-there set up for a musical number. A disturbing musical number, when you look at it.

Anyway- I'm only going into all this because you said you were analytical about Disney. I thought this is basically what you meant.
