Re: Sweeney Tood: The Movie
Gladly! My friend, who is very big into musical theater, decided for Halloween this year to put on a small production of this on his front porch. His porch is very large, so it works like a stage. He will be playing Sweeney. He's very good and looks the part too, so he'll be able to handle the singing easily.Disney Duster wrote:That sounds intrigueing and exciting. Care to elaborate?lord-of-sith wrote:Some of my friends and myself are putting on a Halloween production of this musical, and I'm very excited for it!
And one of my other friends, who is seriously (and I'm not just bragging for her) the best singer/actress of our age in our town (she's been the lead in virtually all the city and school productions (to the point where at school she basically just picks out the part she wants, its pretty funny) and she's just now finishing up playing Gabriella in our civic's production of High School Musical) is playing Mrs. Lovett. She's got the part down pat.
I'm playing the Judge. I'm very excited because that's exactly the part I wanted to play (they knew that, that's how they knew I'd do it). So I'm particularly excited about that.
And while everyone in the cast is a close friend of mine, my two very best friends are playing Toby and the Beadle. And two other amazing girls are playing Johanna and the Beggar Women. And, also, we were lucky enough to get the guy who is playing Chad right now in our civic's production of High School Musical to play Anthony. The role of Pirelli has been cut, unfortunately, but we've made some dialouge changes to get around that.
There are also many songs that have been cut, but its still gonna be great! It's also nice that many of us are doing this as well as working on our school's production of Into the Woods, so we'll be with each other an awful lot. I can't wait!

I'm reeeeaaaallly pushing for it, but something tells me it will remain cut.SpringHeelJack wrote:Are you singing the Judge's "Johanna"?
Well, I assume they will just dissapear. Though I'm not sure of any production where they actually show the people being cut up and baked. But I think the audeince will be smart enough to connect the killing of the customers to the meat pies.PeterPanfan wrote:How are you going to do with the cannabalism..like...will they just dissappear and you pretend Sweeny ate them or he actually...so which one, lol?

Sweeney Todd: The Movie
Thanks for giving away where the meat pies come in, lord-of-sith! I was trying to lead people on by the "Cannibalism!" tag and the ambiguous last words of the plot summary.
Oh well, the trailer may reveal it anyway and it won't matter. But your friend came up with such a novel idea! So it's just one night only, Halloween, with some of the best singers and actors in your town featured? That sounds fantastic, almost kind of impossible, but I guess the cuts make it more workable. You realize you yourself must be very good in order to sing alongside your stellar co-stars? The only problem I see with the idea is: Haloween night? People go to parties and everything on that night! At least it's not trick-or-treating night (I hope, the date changes, and I think some places are different).
The character of Pirelli isn't really necessary, it's just fun. He's really just there to anger Sweeney and give him the idea to get revenge on the judge via shaving, and to provide Toby.
And you're working on Into the Woods? I was in that, I loved it. I would think you would too, just because you like Disney's fairy tale films and darkness, this is a combination. Plus a diva witch character sort of. Depends on how she's played, but she gets great lines.

*We're actually doing it on another night after Halloween, and the saturday after Halloween as well. So that way whoever wants to see it has their options.
*I would like to think I'm a good singer/actor. I can never judge myself personally, but these people who are just amazing (as well as my being my friends too, and they wouldn't put me in it just because I'm their friend, they wouldn't pick someone who isn't what they want) are having my in it, so I guess that means I'm pretty good.
*Yeah, Into the Woods is totally gonna rock. I'm playing the Narrator (which is the part I wanted) and the girl who is our Mrs. Lovett is the Witch. Our Sweeney is the Baker, our Baker's Wife is Johanna, our Beggar Woman is Little Red Riding Hood, our Tobias is Rapunzel's Prince. I'm really excited for it.

Sweeney Todd: The Movie
Yes yes, I really want to see lord-of-sith perform, and all those other great people! But I must say I am very sad to hear PeterPanfan can't see Sweeney which is always a great story with great music and will probably be a great movie.PeterPanfan wrote:You should tape it and put it on YouTube or something. I really want to see it because I'm not old enough to see the theatrical version. >_<
Hey, PeterPanfan, what if your parents either A) rented the version of Sweeny Todd that's out on DVD now with Angela Lansebury, or if that isn't an option 'cause I'm not sure if many video stores carry it, B) have them watch the version lord-of-sith posts, and then they can see it's not that bad and let you go!

Hopefully clips of our show are posted on youtube (I'll try to make sure they are) but for an idea on how are cast is talent wise, I've gathered some clips for you:
Here is our Johanna when she played Marmee when we did Little Women: The Musical a while back.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aI5YloH6VQ
Here is a clip of me as The Knight in Little Women.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eihaUmhfMg
Here is our Beggar Women and Me singing The Most Amazing Thing (The picture and audio doesn't match, and I'm also way off key (which some comments pointed out
))

Sorry I couldn't find better clips for you guys, and these are from a while back, so take in mind that we've all improved since then.

Sweeney Todd: The Movie
I'm glad your trying my idea, PeterPanfan! OH guess what?! Some people have uploaded the filmed stage play, with Angela Lansbury on Youtube! I think the whole thing may be up, but they could look at some of the worst scenes and decide for themselves that way. They don't even have to watch the whole thing.
To find the scenes, just sreach for "Sweeney Todd 01" and it will give you the first scene of the film, but the rest should show up alongside it in the "More from this user" section. But you can always just search for more scenes by changing "01" to "02", "03", etc. But don't let them watch the ending, that's spoil it for them!
Here is a scene I picked that shows some of the gore but doesn't give too much away:
Sweeney Todd 06
It starts with Anthony Hope, a young man who accompanied Sweeney back to London after his jailing, singing of Johanna, the girl he loves and Sweeney's daughter. Sweeney also sings of her, as he pretends to shave the faces of the men who come to his barbor shop, but really he's...well, watch and find out! Angela Lansbury takes the remains of Sweeney's victims to the stove, where a beggar woman points out that "Mischief" and evil things are happening.
Okay, lord-of-sith, first of all I would like to point out I see your theme of villains from current movies (or currently re-released on DVD movies) being in your avatar has been kept up with Judge Tirpin! Yay!
Now, I've viewed the videos. Yes, she was good in that clip and will be good as Johanna. She seems to have the beauty and innocence needed.
You're Knight was unexpected, I mean, I know I've never seen or heard you in real life, but that character was totally different than how you've acted on UD and how I imagined you to be! And it was certainly different than you singing "The Most Amazing Thing." That's good acting! And the singing wasn't stellar but wasn't bad at all, either. As for "The Most Amazing Thing", yea, you didn't do it that well, but good enough that I could see your potential to a great job on your better days, and with practice. Oh, I have two more things: you move kind of slinky and somehow one side of you will not match the other side. Don't how to explain it but for certain characters, like manly manly men if you ever need to play some character like that, think soldier and keep your body very straight and balanced. Second thing: You're cute. That's all I'm sayin'. I'm just giving my opinion, nothing more.

At the very least, I'd love to see pics!
My boyfriend and I saw the touring production last night in Boston. It was overall very excellent. I think the "actors playing instruments" concept works better in "Company", which is a more simplistic show staging-wise, but Judy Kaye as Mrs. Lovett was AMAZING. Worth the price of admission right there. If anyone here gets the chance to catch the tour, you must go!

Okay, I know its been an insane amount of time to at least not have pics, but the girl who took pics during the show has still not given them to me (I'll be getting them soon though). However, the girl who played Mrs. Lovett did happen to put up some pics of us in costume before the show, so you can see those:
Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett (he didn't wear the glasses during the show)

Me as Judge Turpin

Johanna

Beggar Woman

Beadle Bamford

There weren't any good pics of our Anthony or Tobias. I'll try to get better pics asap.

Someone recorded the audio for the Johanna (Quartet) last night from a sneak preview of "Sweeney Todd". It's pretty bad quality, but you can hear the singing. And Johnny sounds pretty good from what I can hear. So excited.

Sweeney Todd: The Movie
Nice pics, lord-of-sith! Sweeeny looks very creepy, makes me afraid. Not so much fro Lovett, but she's supposed to be less creepy (until the end when she's the creepiest of all!), you don't look...old or ugly enough to be the Judge, sorry! But you look like you'd be a very entertaining Judge. Johanna looks very innocent, and your Beggar Woman looks wonderfully depressing and lost all hope. But the Beadle really takes the cake, I bet he stole the show...in the humour department, at least. Can't wait for more!
SpringHeelJack, thank you oh so much! That Anthony sings "Johanna" beautifully! And surprisingly, Depp's "Johanna" is (a little less) beautiful as well! You would be able to tell much more than me, do you think they digitally messed with his voice? I hope not! And I love the Beggar Woman's singing, too. This is going to be WONDERFUL!
