2nd Traditional Animated Disney Film in the Making!
According to JimHillMedia, WDFA is planning to make a 2nd traditionally animated film after 'The Princess and the Frog' to be released either 2010 or 2011! -

2D IS BACK!
Thank for the link, there was a lot of great information in there. I am really disappointed that Disney has stopped making quality 2-disc DVDs. I understand that there are a lot of people out there that simple do not care about the bonus features, but there are a whole lot of people out there that DO care about the extra features TOO!! I think Disney should still strive to produce the best DVD they possibly can for their dedicated fans, and there are PLENTY of us that would be pleased. Releasing a less than par single disc edition with minimal bonus features and interviews is simply rediculous and careless. At least we still have the Platinum Edition line to keep our 2-disc needs satisfied, even though the quality of those too are starting to slump... but that is a whole other topic.
I am really happy to hear that Disney is working on yet another traditionally 2D animated feature film. I was so excited to hear that Ron Clements and John Musker were working on The Princess and the Frog which will be Disney's first traditionally animated feature film since 2004's Home On The Range. It is really exciting to hear that Disney is continuing to go forth with traditional animation. I'll be excited to hear news about this film.

For me this still doesn't explain why they stopped making collector's editions or box sets. That way parents could get their dumb/easy single disc editions and all of us could all the things we want and what Disney apparently "wants" to give us.
Other than that I'm really excited to hear this news about a new film. I doubt we'll know much about it at all for a long time though. It'll be the company's 50th animated classic!

Yeah but Pirates is live action, so I guess they are saying that animation is just for kids. Hmmm, that's sort of demeaning, isn't it?akhenaten wrote:but pirates get two discs? and platinum editions too? wont the parents get confused? stupid excuse disney.the most dumbassed excuse. other studios still produce 2-discs.
That does seem to be the trend emerging. The Pirate's films all got 2-Disc Editions, heck Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe got a 4-Disc edition. I can understand Disney not giving every single release (and re-release) a second disc, but I would say major the summer blockbusters like Cars and Ratatouille are certainly deserving of a 2-disc release.Maerj wrote:Yeah but Pirates is live action, so I guess they are saying that animation is just for kids. Exactly, I absolutely LOVE bonus features, not just for Disney movies but ALL movies! I personally feel that the more recent Platinum Editions were lacking BIG TIME concerning special features ... but that's a whole other story.Simba3 wrote:I am really disappointed that Disney has stopped making quality 2-disc DVDs. shouldnt this technically be the third animated film in the works? i mean with "Rapunzel" and "The Princess and the Frog" both in production?
I'm actually hoping that it's not another Princess movie. Maybe an animal centric movie? That would be cool and would balance the kind of hits that Disney produces. Animals vs people, I mean.

When did a DVD become a child's babysitter?
And are they serious about the "concern that a parent might actually put in the 2nd disc in by mistake thus causing their kid to complain"? That's the stupidest reason I've ever heard!
And, I'm sorry I don't care what anyone says, I find it really hard to believe that 95% of people who buy a Disney DVD in the first 2 weeks are just lazy parents who want to shut their kids up.
These are just really poor excuses because Disney just wants to issue a DVD cheap and fast and then force those interested to double-dip when a new 2-disc edition comes out or upgrade to a Blu-ray DVD.
Good news about the 2D animated film though..... a future lackluster single-edition DVD awaits!!!

Ooh, the kid could complain - we can't have any of that, can we?
Nevertheless, the Goofy poster is nice - classic style!

I've been incredibly dissapointed with the recent Pixar (and Disney, in general) releases... to the point I haven't even bought Cars, and have no intention of buying Ratatouille.
Meet the Robinsons was pretty pathetic as well, but at least it had a commentary... the only reason I consented to buy it at all was because I enjoyed it so much in theatres, which was a first for me at a Disney film in many years.
As a general rule, I never buy 1-disc releases unless they're as fully-packed as possible, and I know a better release isn't likely. Damn lazy parents, is all I can say. They're all so disinterested in their kids these days and absorbed with the excessive work they're supposedly doing it makes me sick, and not only because their incredible stupidity is resulting in sub-par DVD releases.

Classic Disney with a modern twist... looks cool. I can't wait to see Goofy tackle the issues of THX-approval, the dozens of incarnations of DTS and Dolby Digital formats, HDCP equipment, HDMI vs. DVI vs. Component cables, lol. Should be a fun short.Princess Rosie wrote:I am SO excited for the new Goofy short that is going to be tacked on to the front of Enchanted in theatres!I adore the poster, it's classic Disney!!

I'd laugh hard if in the cartoon Goofy chooses HD-DVD over Blu-Ray, even though Disney is all about the Blu-Ray.TM2-Megatron wrote:Classic Disney with a modern twist... looks cool. "Rapunzel" is still technically 3D, unless you guys know something I don't...toonaspie wrote:shouldnt this technically be the third animated film in the works? i mean with "Rapunzel" and "The Princess and the Frog" both in production?
And if that excuse is in fact legit (and that is a big "if"), what sort of parent is too stupid to look on the disc and see what's what? I mean, the first disc is the movie. Just saying. First FastPlay, now this. Stupid people ruin everything.

That'd be great! Maybe they'll make Mickey a fan of Blu-Ray. He finds out Goofy chose HD-DVD and reels off reasons to Goofy why he should switch to Blu-Ray ("You don't want to miss out on Disney movies, do ya?")Barbossa wrote:I'd laugh hard if in the cartoon Goofy chooses HD-DVD over Blu-Ray, even though Disney is all about the Blu-Ray.TM2-Megatron wrote:Classic Disney with a modern twist... looks cool. That was an interesting article. I'm glad to hear that there's talk about the next traditionally animated feature. It's also great that the Goofy short will be played before Enchanted: it gives me yet another reason to go see the movie in the cinema. I can't wait to see Goofy's antics on the big screen.
I can't believe that the reason Disney would opt for 1-disc releases would have to do with that parental stuff. I mean, how would someone accidentally put a wrong disc to the player if the movie disc is always the first one you see anyway? And it wouldn't take that much effort to check the cover of the disc to see whether it's the movie disc or not. I seriously hope people aren't that dumb or busy that they couldn't figure simple things like this out. Oh well.
