Wow, this looks amazing! I'm really hoping this is something that we might actually see someday, but I refuse to get my hopes up too high. It's hard to believe that of all the Disney films, The Hunchback of Notre Dame would be the first one to get a 3-disc "Supreme Edition". However, I do love this film and I think it would be great if it did. Perhaps this will unfold a little over the next few months and we'll be able to determine if this is something that will really happen sometime.

If the previous release of Hunchback quitely goes Out of Print, then I'll get my hopes up.

It has to be fake. I'm certainly not going to hold my breath waiting for it.

I really really really want to believe this is real, but I can't bring myself to because of:

1. The THX logo on the packaging. Disney hasn't partnered with them since early-to-mid 2005 or so. The last animated classic to get THX certification was Pocahontas for its 10th Anniversary Edition.

2. The DTS logo on the packaging. While the current disc has both Dolby Digital and DTS tracks, Disney has recently stopped including them. If Hunchback were to be re-released, I'd be willing to bet its DTS track would be dropped.

3. Chernobog's cryptic post. If this were legitimate, why didn't he say where he found it and provide other details? To just post three words and an image seems to suggest he did this on Photoshop himself and is pulling everyone's leg, much like the Song of the South April Fool's joke earlier this year. Not to mention there's the fact that he hasn't posted in almost exactly two years. This would be one heck of a way to make a comeback.

4. Disney has only treated one film in their entire library to a set containing 3 discs or more devoted to it: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe's Extended Edition. The only reason Disney even released that was to parallel Lord of the Rings' releases. While there definitely is enough material in the Disney archives to fill two discs' worth of supplements, I can't see Disney kick starting this with a title like Hunchback. You'd think if any film would be given this treatment, it'd be something like Snow White's 2009 re-release (even if, personally, I think Hunchback deserves it more).

5. Call me a pessimist, but the artwork is too classy for Disney (at least in Region 1). They're firmly determined to market their animated classics towards families, and therefore even prestigious titles like the Platinums feature colorful, eye-popping art. Disney is concerned with attracting soccer moms' attentions at places like Wal-Mart. They wouldn't do such a low-key cover here in the states.

6. Disc art is shown. Disney hasn't shown us disc art for ANY of their major titles since Cinderella back in 2005, I believe. They've become too paranoid probably due to bootleggers, even if the disc art in question is partially masked (which WB does when releasing cover art, not Disney).

7. There's nothing else on the "ad" except the cover and disc art and the limited time only blip. Usually on ads, Disney mentions a couple of key bonus materials and includes quotes from critics. If it's an ad meant solely for retailers, they'll also include things like sales statistics and what target audience this release is meant for. And all that's not even including a simple "Coming ______ 2008" phrase that we always see.

So, for now, I'm not getting my hopes up until Disney themselves issues a press release or if BVHE Rep comes here to tell us this is legitimate.

You're right. It's just a fake i made today, but i hope you're not upset with me. It's just the idea of what all of us are wishing to be released some day.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.

Oh well, I guess along with Bigfoot, the Bermuda Triangle and the popularity of Bratz, the non-release of the 2 disc Lilo and Stitch in the USA is still one of the 21st Century's greatest mysteries.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Couldn't you send the picture to Disney as a subtle hint? :D

You defenitly need to be working at Disney's image and advertising section ! That's was Jawdropping !

I told Disney to rerelease Hercules, but as usual they replied :
"We have no plans to re-release this dvd, so f**k off and stop whining :P !"

Holy awesome sauce, that's gorgeous! It would've made a great April Fool's joke. I'd definitely vote for you to work in Disney's image and advertising section! What program did you use to make it and is it hard to use at first? I'd love to play around with it, making custom DVDs.

I don't mean to suddenly change the subject, but that kind of cover art is just what I'd love to have on all my Disney DVDs. The only "classy" looking Disney DVD I possess is the Region 2 UK Beauty and the Beast Collector's Edition. It's so gorgeous it will make your jaw drop. I've noticed that some European releases (especially French) seem to get these really artistic covers (ex. Pocahontas France - Is that wonderful or what!?). Region 1, on the other hand (and Region 2 aswell, now) get rather kiddish looking, wonderfully colourful covers which appeal to kids, but do not really scream "Collector's Item!!!!" It's disappointing. :(

To make matters worse, some UK covers sometimes recycle older covers. The Pocahontas 2-Disc Special Edition for the UK had its cover taken from the one shown on the preview for the Gold Classic Collection line in general on early Region 1 discs. In other words, this:

At least that cover's better than what R1 got for its 2-disc (which, in itself, was actually recycled from the UK's original single disc; wrap your head around THAT one). The UK 2-disc/US Masterpiece Collection VHS cover actually matches Disney's other SE covers better than the R1 does (having the main character prominent on the top, villain and sidekicks on the bottom).

Chernobog,

Just curious to know what would be the content of this fake 3-Disk 'supreme edition' of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Can you think up someting?

Very well done image by the way, did you make this with the aid of Photoshop?

Do you think now that 'The Aristocats' have got a Special Edition release, is the likelyhood of 'Hercules' and 'The Hunchback Of Notre Dame' getting a special edition has increased? Or am I living in a fantasyland .. ?

I didnt think there was as a high demand for an Aristocats Special Edition as there is for Herc and THOND.

But atlanticaunderthesea, they do it basicley with marchandise\sequles (in case of The Fox and the Hound)\etc. and Marie has lots of marchandise (does anyone actually like her? :o from what i know she's not really a populer character) so they released a special edition.
Hercules and Hunchback don't have any marchandise so they'll release them someday like Dumbo and Robin Hood.

I see what you mean. They are both popular films; I don't see why Disney doesnt bother with them as much as other Classics.

She is in Japan. Also, I think little kids may be scared by THOND. Maybe if they marketed it in a spookier light it might get more attention. It's not a scary movie, but Disney twists everything around.

Really? :o becouse i know some website who think that she's annyoing, anyway, nice to know :).
Also,is it true that in Japan Aurora is the most populer princess?.
By the way-Esmeralda was "pushed" to the Princess franchise but now it stoped (luckley, she don't fit the franchise, escpecially since she chose Mr. blondie since he don't looks like a "monster",without a dirty shame) maybe becose Giselle will join the franchise, and Hercules is in the Disney Heroes (the Disney male franchise) line.
