The Singing Bee v. Don't Forget the Lyrics
Does anyone here watch both "The Singing Bee" and "Don't Forget the Lyrics"? I recently started watching both and while I enjoy them, I prefer TSB. The show has a lot more energy than TSB and music that people born after 1960 might know. The same cannot be said for DFTL, which has weird song options and is drawn out to create a kind of suspense that doesn't quite work for a singing show. I also feel like DFTL spends way too much time on the personal lives of its contestants and on trying to build the episode around some hook therein (a proposal, a surprise appearance from a loved one, a teary moment, etc.). I must say, though, that I like Wayne Brady more than Joey Fatone.
Anyways, I'm curious as to what others here think of the shows and which one is preferred. Vote and discuss!

I love The Singing Bee for most of the reasons you have said. Also I find that DFTL's 'suspense and get to know them' angles are far too modern and just overdone. TSB has a lets have fun feeling of a 70's game show, I mean it could be a 'Name that Tune' spinoff.
BTW I have had trouble catching TSB since the new season started what day/time is it on now?

The Singing Bee comes off really cheesy to me. Not quite as bad as that god awful "Show Me the Money" show from last year, but pretty close.
Don't Forget the Lyrics annoys me the same way Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader does. The announcer gives way too much of the show away and totally ruins the suspense.
Despite these annoyances I watch both of them cause they are fun too play along with. Not like Deal or No Deal which is quite possibly the most boring and overrated tv show there is.

Deal or No Deal was ok at first, but I agree it gets boring. The main problem I have with Don't Forget the Lyrics and Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader is the pacing of the show. It seems like its question... wait... wait... wait... I'll give you a clue... wait.... wait... ok theres the answer. A 1 hour show could probably be watched in half the time. Anyway I still like both shows and they are part of my weekly viewing.Widdi wrote:The Singing Bee comes off really cheesy to me. Singing Bee is cheesy, but its ok. Its a short fun show, and I think thats what it set out to do. If anything bad has come out of the Singing Bee its that "ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!" phrase. I don't know why, but I'll end up saying that for some reason at least once a week... seriously its scary and I don't know why I do it. I guess its "catchy".
