Generally I like it, but I think Simba's face needs re-working; he doesn't look like himself at all. I like the overall feel of the cover, though.

Short version of my comments: Young Kiara and Young Kovu should not be on Pride Rock together, and Simba looks terrible. Worst of all, it doesn't fit in with the feel of the other DVD covers (orange/yellow/red.)This is the single worst DVD cover I've ever seen and I phoned Disney yesterday to ask them to change it back to the original VHS art. I don't think they will but hopefully they'll change it to something else at least. (Then again, if we all call and request it maybe they will release it with the original brilliant artwork.)

Worst DVD Cover Ever
Yeah it is the wors CoverArt I have ever seen. It looks to depressing if the buyer didn't know about the movie and he saw it on the self at Wal mart with that coverart I wouldn't blame the buyer if they just walked away. The artwork is so stuped! And ugly. 100% non Disney!

I think the comments about this being the worst of the Disney cover art is a bit harsh. You want to see bad cover art? Take a look at The Great Mouse Detective's cover. This one is just okay and could be really good is some tweaks were made. I agree, though, that they should just stick with the old cover which matches the other two DVD's much better.

I have nothing against the blue as an individual release, but since this is the end of a trilogy of DVDs which have had a defined color scheme it needs to match the other two, which means red/orange/yellow-ish.Jack wrote:I like it looking dark blue - I prefer darker colors.

At first glance, I kind of liked it. But after thinking about it, now I'm not so sure. First of all, the fact that Simba is somewhat in the clouds, makes him seem like Mufasa, dead and watching over. Second of all, everyone is right that the cubs should not be on pride rock, well Kiara could be, but not Kovu. Lastly, the colors don't match, but I think they will change that, just like Lion King 1.5's original cover was blue, and then it was changer to an orange tone.

Well, I wonder if this is just an ad for SP - after all, the header and the footer lines are advertizing bits. Right on the artwork. If it is the cover art, they'd likely put the ad lines outside of it along the margins, or somesuch.
Besides, both TLK and HM had at least two cover design changes each before they were released (remember the first extremely off-model design for TLK? *shudder*). I wouldn't be so conclusive that this will be the art for the SP Special Edition.
But as for nitpicks - yes, nothing about this potential SP cover is very good. Everyone - except for a stock image of Rafiki - is off-model. The cubs look horrendous (especially Kiara!
), Zazu is oddly placed, and that floating lion head - who the hell is that?! I can't tell whether it's Simba or Mufasa. Talk about your bad designs... O_o The color scheme is pretty awkward, too.
I hate - absolutely hate - "floating head syndrome" for movie art, whether it's the theatrical poster or the home video cover. And so far I have liked neither piece of SP art. The original has Simba and cub Kiara floating over a piece of old TLK silhouette clip art, and the mouth-line on Simba always bugged me - I think it extends too far back, or something. He just doesn't look right. You know - I'm beginning to see a trend in Disney DTV and marketing, that their lion characters are the easist designs to f*ck up. LOL - look at any merchandise picture or at the designs and movement of the lions in both HM and SP, and you'll see what I mean. Nala's short screen time in HM disturbed me - she was so fugly!!
But I digress. One thing's for sure though - if this or something similar turns out to be the cover art, I'll just add that to the list of reasons why I'm not buying it...

No offense, but Paka seems to be the one with any real brains... My first thought when I saw the picture was, "it's a movie poster". It in no way looks like a dvd cover, but rather as Paka also pointed out, an advertisement, so don't everyone get bent out of shape! sheesh!
Any way it really is aweful for all the resons pretty much stated above, actually I don't get the big contraversy about having Kiara and Kovu on Pride Rock, but everything else is just awful. (See Paka's above comments)
Any way, just thought I'd give my 2 cents...

Well, it's obviously right from the back of the coupon booklet in The Lion King 1 ½, and so it's an advertisement, not a cover. But I think it's a good bet that it COULD be the cover when we see that soon.

It looks ok but it needs some work. I hope it will look like the first DVD or little better.

Well I guess I did partially over react on the matter. I guess it isn't that bad of a cover art anyway. I was just shocked. I still do hope that the real cover art doesn't look like this one.
