underestimated disney characters

Post by REINIER »

can you name a not so evident disney character that hasn't gotten as much attention as you would like!
so no timon & pumbaa or stitch
but just characters that according to you theoretically deserve their own spinn-off movie, if it were up to you!

Flora, Fauna and Merryweather!!!!!

And no smart comments on how much screen time they got in Sleeping Beauty!

But seriously - I love them!!!! They're my favourite Disney characters ever! Anyone with me on this?

And can I also take this opportunity to say how disappointed I am that they weren't included in the Fairies franchise? I mean come on!!! So many opportunities for fairy characters in Disney and they make up new ones? What's wrong with the Blue Fairy and the three good fairies? I think Disney considered the Blue fairy too old-fashioned and the three fairies too old in general to market to young girls.

This my first post here on UltimateDisney, and let me say that it's great to be joining the community. :)

Anyway, with the Disney Princess franchise, I've always felt that the princes really got ignored and seen as nothing more than accesories to the princesses. But personally, as you can tell from my user name, my favorite Disney character is Phillip, and I always felt he was really underrated and overlooked. Especially since he has a broad personality, managing to be heroic, but also humorous in the same time, like with his interaction with Hubert and Samson.

Most of the time, people credit Aurora as being the star, but really she hardly appears at all in the movie. I felt that Phillip was always the hero of the story, having to be imprisoned by Maleficent and then having to battle her. Even though the fairies helped him escape, he hacked his way through the thorns himself, and was alone throughout the entire dragon fight until he was about to get knocked off the cliff. Anyway, sorry about the random tangent. :p

I always wished that Phillip would have been featured more as a central character. I always felt that he was just as much as a star of the story as Aurora had been, if not more. I would love them maybe in the future Enchanted Tales DVDs to feature him and Aurora together more, or maybe have a DVD of stories featuring the Disney couples, rather than just focusing exclusively on the princesses.

I think Princess Kida should get her very own movie or even tv series. I used to be so obsessed with that idea in the past that I wrote 3 fanfic episodes of that imaginary series of mine. It was set on a time before Milo's team arrived to Atlantis and she was trying to uncover Atlantis' secrets on her own or with her exploring/hunting team (two other Atlantean girls). There was also a little girl just to be there in the story, sthing like Webby from "DuckTales". If only....

Gurgi, all the way! I absolutely adore him! He's so underrated- heck, so many people don't even know that "The Black Cauldron" exists, or, if they know it exists, a lot of people haven't seen it.

I'd love to see what Gurgi's life was like growing up. I don't know if that's mentioned at all in the Chronicles of Prydain, since I haven't read those...

Actaully PrincePhillipFan,Philip has a lot of marchandise,i can give you a link if you want,he has action figuers and more Disney Heroes stuff and he has birthday party stuff and i bet that when Sleeping Beauty will come out on Platinum Edition he'll get more stuff and Aurora will get more attention in the Princess line.
Anyway,what i think-
I think that Pocahontas and Mulan needs more attention in the Princess line,it's getting old to see Cinderella,Aurora (it's insane with her, lateley i think that she's going to replace Cinderella!) and Belle everywhere (Ariel only gets things in the summer and now she's a bit overrated since her movie was out in a Platinum Edition but i guess that she'll get less overrated when Sleeping Beauty will be on a Platinum Edition and then Aurora will get most of the attention),if Enchanted will do well Giselle might get overrated, too, you know what's funny? Snow White is allways with Cinderella,Aurora and Belle but baiscley she's less underrated then Jasmine.
Also the Disney Villain-i think that it will be nice if they'll get their own franchise.

I'm not sure if these fall under the term underrated, but that's always debatable ain't it:

- Mr. Toad, Mole, Rat (The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad)

- The walrus and the carpenter (Alice in wonderland)

- Edgar the butler and the chinese like cat whose name I don't recall(The aristocats)

- Sir Hiss and Prince John, and the rooster, but I don't think he's underrated, he's popular, ain't he? (Robin Hood)

- Kay (Sword in the stone)

- The three caballeros MINUS DONALD haha!

- Professor Ratigan, Olivia Flaversham, Toby, Basil, Dawson (The great mouse detective)

These spring to mind...

I like them (altought the screentime they stolen from Aurora) but still.
About the fairies-i agree, they could make such a franchise and even better one,The Blue Fairy look like Snow White (and don't forget that Snow White and originaly blonde) and i don't that she old fashion.

The Horned King, The Evil Queen, and the Villans in general plus Sally from TNBC need more attention.

Underestimated Disney Characters

Actually I have said once or twice on here that I thought Disney Fairies should have been a teenage Tinker Bell grouped with teenage versions of Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, the Blue Fairy, and the Fairy Godmother. They would all be going to magic school (even though going to school for magic is an idea done too often). Then, they would each have areas of specialty with their magic, like Tinker Bell would makes things fly (and be a "tinker" and repair things, sure), but Flora would be able to make and control plants, Fauna would control animals, and Merryweather would control the weather (this is actually something Disney considered, and why they have their names and Maleficent ruined Floa's "nicest flowers" and Fauna gives the gift of song, like a nightengale), while the Blue Fairy could bring things to life to talk and move on their own and the Fairy Godmother could transform things into other things. And at magic school, I guess they would learn to do everything else besides all that.

But Disney Fairies should really be called Disney Pixies because Tinker Bell is a pixie with pixie dust! They changed it to fairy dust, WTF it's a Disnet icon! I guess they just consider pixie and fairy interchangable. The reason Tinker Bell could be grouped with the other fairies in my version is more reasonable because most of them really are fairies.

Nice idea :D but the whole school thingy reminds me of Bratz.

Thanks for the information, Ariel's Prince! I've heard of the birthday stuff and have one of the action figures, but didn't know about any of the Disney Heroes lines. What is that action figure one like? I know Phillip has some merchandise, but I always feel that he's always overlooked a lot, compared to the other Disney heroes like the Beast or Aladdin. Even when he has such a developed personality, unlike the earlier two princes.

I have two of the invitations of the Phillip birthday party stuff. I was looking through Party City one day, and found them and just had to pick them up. :p

Here's pictures of the invitation and the thank you cards I scanned:
