Nice looking package. Makes me almost wish I didn't own 1 and 2. I will be picking up 3 tomorrow for sure.

Knowing Target's love for fullscreen DVDs, I'd be shocked if the first two movies weren't presented in FS in the box.

I was just going to make this same comment. Target has an exclusive 3 pack of the movies for sale tomorrow and I bet they won't be widescreen!

Since I have the special best buy reward zone "double points before 11 AM" thing, I may try to Price Match at Best buy (an advertisement from a store called "nebraska mega mart" has the dvd for sale @ $12.99. I want to get those double points.

The box set was already released at Futureshop in Canada.. Actually, it looks like where the picture was ripped off from.. I was there today to look around and Santa Clause 1 and 2 was WS..

On another note, was the Shrek trilogy available in WS? All the copies I saw were all in foolscreen..

Yeah, I got the picture from their site........That's sooo stupid, why do we get the foolscreen, while futureshop gets wide

BTW,what was the price at Target? $16.99? Its on sale on Black Friday, but I'm going out of town and I'm not sure if I'm going to do much shopping that day. I am hoping to buy a christmas present or two tomorrow when I go to Target tomorrow - so I'll just buy a wide-screen copy tomorrow.

It depends on if you want certain bonus features over others.

The Dumbo: 60th Anniversary has a music video, two trailers, and "sound design" excerpt from The Reluctant Dragon that aren't in the new version (which has a new music video, a DisneyPedia, and I think a new game). Video quality is 50/50 on both, as some elements of the picture are better in Big Top, but others look better in 60th Anniversary.

The Tarzan: Collector's Edition (and Standard Edition) are both out of print, and the CE had a wonderful set of bonus features (a great selection of featurettes, extensive text and image galleries, original song demos, trailers) that ARE NOT on the single-disc Special Edition. So if you're ga-ga for special features, get the CE, but if you're content with just the movie and a few features (commentary, deleted scenes, music videos), the (Not So) Special Edition is fine.

Both the Atlantis: Collector's Edition and Atlantis Standard Edition have a great set of features, but again it boils down to if you're a fan of bonus material. The CE is perhaps one of the best two-disc sets Disney has ever done, complete with a Visual Commentary, exhaustive two-hour documentary, and a smattering of additional featurettes, galleries, trailers, etc. The Standard Edition still contains the commentary (but just audio) and a few noteworthy featurettes.

All three releases are pretty much the same disc, with a couple new games (well, likely a couple new games for 101D2) on the new editions, so it doesn't really matter which version you get. But if you want that all-important slipcover , get the newer releases. Just be forewarned that Cindy 2 and LATT2 are already OOP.

Disney Animated Classics- Which should i wait to buy?

Post by James »

Hey guys, im starting to buy all the DVDs i want off the internet, ive previously just watched and re-watched VHS' owned for decades.......i'm up to purchasing the Disney Animated Classics, from Snow White, through to Meet The Robinsons.....which ones should i wait to buy? By asking this i mean, are there any rumoured re-releases i should know about and wait for? For example, obviously I know to buy Sleeping Beauty now since it has been just re-released, but, would it be easier to wait for Snow White's Platinum re-release next year, or is it exactly the same and would be worth buying now? And is the re-release of Lilo and Stitch still happening? It's been in the works for like 5 years haha.....so yeah, any help with the Classics that should be held off for, would be much appreciated. :)

Well you'll probably find different members will have different oppinions, and as far as bonus features go no one knows what future releases will have, but it's safe to say future releases will be similar if not slightly better than previous/past editions. Anyway based on current availability and upcoming releases I'd personally suggest the following if it were me.

God you can tell I'm bored when I start color coding.

1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Wait New edition coming Fall 2009
2. Pinocchio - Wait - New edition coming Spring 2009
3. Fantasia - Wait - New edition coming Spring 2010
4. Dumbo - Wait/Buy NowThis really is a toss up. Newest edition is only a couple of years old. Probably won't be rereleased for a good few years.
5. Bambi - Wait/Buy NowAgain toss up 2005 edition is still available reasonably cheap. Next release is likely to be 2012.
6. Saludos Amigos - Buy Now New edition only just released so wont be another for a long while.
7. The Three Caballeros - Buy Now Ditto as Saludos Amigos
8. Make Mine Music - Wait Current DVD is edited so hold out for new hopefully uncut version.
9. Fun and Fancy Free - Wait/Buy Now It's your call again, a new version could surface in the next year or 2, however It probably won't be much of an upgrade from the current edition.
10. Melody Time - Wait/Buy Now Same as with Fun and Fancy Free, Although R1 edition is cut, so I personally would suggest either waiting in the hope of an uncut re-release or importing an uncut version from UK or elsewhere.
11. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad - Wait/Buy Now Same as with Fun and Fancy Free
12. Cinderella - Buy NowGo for the current edition, the next won't probably won't be along until 2012/2013
13. Alice in Wonderland - Wait Probably best waiting unless you want to fork out for a used copy. We're probably looking at a Spring 2011 release for the next edition.
14. Peter Pan - Buy Now May as well go for the current edition, next release is likely to be Late 2012/2013
15. Lady and the Tramp - Buy Now Get current edition, next release will probably be somewhere around 2013.
16. Sleeping Beauty - Buy Now Buy the new 2008 version obviously
17. 101 Dalmatians - Buy Now Get 2007 current version
18. The Sword in the Stone - Buy Now Get current 2008 version
19. The Jungle Book - Buy Now Get current 2007 version
20. The Aristocats - Buy Now Get current 2008 version
21. Robin Hood - Buy Now Get current 2007 version
22. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - Buy Now Get current 2007 version
23. The Rescuers - Wait The no evidence as yet, but I think it's a safe bet that a new edition will appear in either 2009 or 2010
24. The Fox and the Hound - Buy Now Get the current 2007 edition
25. The Black Cauldron - Wait For starter the picture is non anamorphic, so you don't want that. Also a new edition is reported to be coming to Germany, so it'll probably be everywhere else too.
26. The Great Mouse Detective - Wait I'd bet good money a new edition will be here in either 2009 or 2010
27. Oliver and Company - Oliver and Company New edition coming 2009
28. The Little Mermaid - Buy Now Get the current edition, next release will probably be 2014ish
29. The Rescuers Down Under - Wait Same as with The Rescuers I think a new version will be here with a couple of years
30. Beauty and the Beast - Wait Next release should be 2010
31. Aladdin - Buy Now Now this is a tricky one. It's probable that Aladdin has been knocked out of the platinum line up, and like much of the rest of the world a 1 disc re-release is on its way. I personally would be inclined to try and grab the 2 disc Platinum if you can. If Aladdin still is in the platinum line up it probably won't be rereleased until 2012 ish anyway.
32. The Lion King - Wait Next release should be 2011
33. Pocahontas - Buy Now I'd get the current 2 disc SE
34. The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Wait Even though there is no news I'd suggest there has to be a new release within the next couple of years
35. Hercules - Wait Ditto as Hunchback
36. Mulan - Buy Now Even though the current 2 disc is a few years old, Disney have just *re-released* it with Mulan 2 so it doesn't look as though it's going out of print for a while.
37.Tarzan - Wait/Buy Now Tough one, You could hold out and pray for a new 2 disc SE, or get the old 2 disc SE version from 2001
38. Fantasia 2000 - Wait New edition should be here in 2010
39. The Emperor's New Groove - Wait/Buy Now Another tough one, as with Tarzan you can wait and hope or go for the 2001 2 disc version
40. Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Wait/Buy Now Another tough one same as with Tarzan and New Groove, you can wait and hope or go for the 2002 2 Disc CE
41. Lilo and Stitch - Wait That 2 disc SE has to come at some point so I'd wait. I'd bet that within the next couple of years this will turn up at the same point L+S appears on blu-ray. Either that or import a copy of the 2 disc SE from somewhere else.
42. Treasure Planet - Buy NowI'd buy now, I doubt we'll see a rerelease for a while
43. Brother Bear - Buy Now Ditto as with Treasure Planet
44. Home on the Range - Buy Now Ditto as with Treasure Planet and Brother Bear
45. Chicken Little - Buy Now
46. Meet the Robinsons - Buy Now

I pretty much agree with what ichabod said, but I wanted to add...

that the Collector's Editions of both Dinosaur and Atlantis are still pretty easy to find in stores now, so I would say to get those now...they'll probably be released on inferior one-disc DVDs in the future, right?

Definitely get Aladdin, I'd suggest, since, as ichabod said, we don't know what's going to happen with its next rerelease, and the Platinum Edition is a very solid set.

Well if they follow the pattern as with the other 2 early CE's Tarzan and The Emperor's New Groove, I'd say it's highly likely a release will end up being 1 disc. After all Even the blu-ray of Dinosaur was utter crap and had none of the bonus features of the 2 Disc CE on it bar the commentary and 1 short featurette.
