Beauty and the Beast icon

Post by ksmith »

I bought a copy of Platinum Edition Beauty and the Beast on Amazon.com and when I got it, I immediately noticed that it was a well made bootleg.

I watched some of it mostly out of curiousity as to whether it played like a real DVD. I went to the Gaston song and I notice a odd icon that shows up throughout the song that looks like a projector with 1/2 beside it. It showed up on two different DVD players in my house. Since I didn't receive the literature inside the DVD case, I have no instructions and no idea what that icon represents.

Does any know if it is inherent to being a fake DVD or does every BATB DVD show that icon? Any idea what it purpose is? I find it annoying.

Thanks,
Kevin

It's most definitely something to do with the bootleg. I don't know how or why that icon's there, but it's not a part of the official DVD at all. My guess is when the person was ripping the film for the bootleg, the equipment and/or program he used flashed that icon, and the bootleg captured that.

Well, I played it again and if I hit the "display" button on my remote when that icon is there, it highlights the "2" from the 1/2 and cuts to some sort of black and white, pencil on paper animation for a few seconds and then quickly goes back to the real cartoon. Must be some sort of "show the concept to reality" option that probably works correctly with genuine copies.

Weird. Serves me right for bargain hunting on Amazon.

The projector with the 1/2 is either your DVD player's icon for multi-angle scenes (which shouldn't show up when playing the movie), or like Kelvin said, someone may have been making a bootleg of the movie, and the multi-angle icon (on his player as he was ripping the movie?) popped up.

How to make a stop on offered bootlegs on a marketplace

Post by leuchtmuschel »

@ksmith
You should do the following:

Claim the delivered DVD at amazon.com you got because this is a bootleg. Tell them that you have made contact with Disney Antipiracy.

Take from the offer on Amazon.com a snapshoot you have ordered before it disappears.

Make digital photos from the covers and from the disc.

Make a digital photo from the TV-screen that shows this icon.

Goto http://corporate.disney.go.com/corporat ... iracy.html

Send a mail with these photos to the email on this website.

You can be sure that Disney will show no mercy to Amazon, and we get sure that we don’t get bootlegs from a reputable retailer. I think Amazon will work with Disney together on this problem.

To be honest the projecter symbol seems to me like the signal that you can use the angle feature on the DVD.

Just because the symbol appears does not necessarilly mean the DVD is a bootleg. It depends upon your DVD player. The angle symbol shows up on my DVD player all the time when I watch DVDs with an angle feature and I know my DVDs are not bootlegs yet I still can't switch it off.

Look in your DVD player manual and see if there are instructions to turn off on screen icons during DVD playback.
