Private Practice: Season 1 Discussion

Post by MadonnasManOne »

The series premiere is tonight, at 9/8 Central. Even though I did not really care for the backdoor pilot that aired during Grey's Anatomy, I am willing to give the show a chance, because I love the character of Addison so much. I sure hope it turns out better than the backdoor pilot.

Anyone else tuning in?

This is the place to discuss Season One. Remember, spoilers are possible.

I can't say I love it. I hope I do, but, I will have to wait and see. I love Addison. I'm just not convinced about the rest of the characters.

Well, it was okay, I guess. I ended up liking the characters a little more than I did during the backdoor pilot. I will continue to watch, in the hopes that it will improve. It certainly has potential that I didn't see in it during the backdoor pilot.

I had been waiting for this thread to appear.!!
Was it much better than the "Pilot" that aired during the 3rd season of Grey's? I kinda liked that one, it wasn't amazingly good but okay.

It was better than the pilot ... the pilot was very much a "getting to know you" episode ... introducing all the characters from the Oceanside Wellness Center ...

I liked PP a lot ... I completely disagree with all the negative reviews that critics gave it prior to the premiere ...

I thought it was enjoyable and showed great promise ...

and ... It won its timeslot last night ...

I've only seen the occasional episode of "Grey's Anatomy", but I did see the backdoor pilot last season and tuned in for the for-real pilot this season. I enjoyed it quite a bit and will definitely tune in again. I really like Amy Brenneman and I thought that not only was she great in the show, but the addition of a psychologist (or is she a psychiatrist?) into the mix is going to make it quite interesting. The history of the divorcing couple was shoved down our throats but aside from that, I was pleased.

Anyone else notice that this show (at least so far) departs from that quirky humor of "Grey's"? It's much more a straight-forward drama, thus far (not that that's necessarily a bad thing).

Okay, I just finished watching the pilot (thanks to some really cool site) and I have to say it's good, nothing more nothing less.
I kinda miss the humor that was still there in the Grey's PP-pilot. This one relied much more on drama and personal stuff, but it felt really human and nice.
What I didn't like is, and maybe that's just me, that IMHO it tried too hard to be be a good show. Grey's somehow became a hit by accident. Private Practice is expected to be a hit, and we'll have to see if it'll get better than this episode which sometimes moved very slow.
The characters are all nice.
Addison of course is awesome and simply Addison.
Amy Brenneman is cool and the story about the tile-counting woman was heart-breraking, but one of the stories that kinda felt forced.
Pete is (at least in this episode) lame, excpt for the fact that he knows how to do accupuncture (spelling?).
I didn't like Naomi, I don't know why, too serious. The thing with "I need you to be my someone" reminded me a lot of Meredith and Cristina ("She's my person"), but it's kinda hard to see the friendship between Addi and Naomi, maybe because I am so used to seeing Addison in Seattle.
Cooper is great, he is funny and nice. he might become one of my favorite characters.

The show certainly is nice, but not phenomenal, and if the show doesn't get better I don't give it much of a chance of surviving longer than maybe 1 or two seasons. It doesn't offer anything new and isn't as funny as Grey's Anatomy which it will inevitably always be compared to, not only because it features one of the most popular characters from Grey's Anatomy, but because the same team produces it.
We'll see. I'll keep watching if possible and hope.

The second episode airs, tonight.

I do want to see it, but, I'll probably have to catch it, online, either tomorrow evening, or sometime this weekend.

Well, I got done with my project, and was able to watch this episode. One word....WOW!

I really loved this episode. It was extremely emotional. I can honestly say that this is the first time I've fallen in love with this show. If it keeps improving, each episode, this might actually turn out to be a new favorite!

I am watching it right now and loving it. It is funny, a bit medical but more concerned with persons and relationships than with medicine.
And it is hilarous!
The stripper thing was good, the story about the babies was sad and I totally love Cooper!! The grandma poisoning her own family was really scary. :o
If it keeps getting stronger Private Practice might really become a huge hit.

Edit: Very good episode, so much better than the last one or the pilot.
Go Addison!

Well I'm glad people are liking it. I was really happy when I saw how good the backdoor pilot was in the 3rd season of Grey's, so it's great that so many people are liking it and that it's doing so well. Can't wait until it gets to Australia next year!

Both sets of medical cases were interesting ... The characters are definitely growing on me ... and Addison was absolutely wonderful as always ...

The scene at the start of the ep was really funny ... They hire Sam a call girl and go and spy on him and of course Addy invited Naomi over at the same time ... perfect!

Darnit! I missed your post, Dottie. I missed Kate Walsh on Ellen. :( Did anyone watch it? What was said?

Anyway, the new episode is starting. I hope I enjoy it as much as I did the last episode.
