Disney's Aladdin DVD Press Release (Real One)

Speaking of the Genie... why is there no mention of Robin Williams in the press release? Even "comedian Gilbert Gottfried" gets mentioned.

The press release mentions an "Art Review", which is exactly what was used to describe the artwork on the Finding Nemo DVD. It wasn't a gallery, but rather a slide-show with the artists commenting on the work. Perhaps this is what Aladdin with get - hopefully it'll be pretty extensive.

well, one of my many disapointments of the lion king dvd, was the gallery feature...this time, I think it would be so cool if they make a 3D view of Jazmine's palace halls for the galleries...just like the B&B, SW and SB galleries.

Well, according to the pre-press release from last week, Aladdin DOES have virtual galleries, but they'll be for pencil tests and storyboards while concept art will be featured in the Art Review. At least I think that's how it is...

I always thought it was 25, too. To those who are confused, at the time of Aladdin's release, Disney's ad campaign was really leaning heavily on the fact that Robin Williams was in this to the point where every poster or banner for the film had the Genie taking up like 3/4 of the picture (the official poster had the Genie taking up the entire top half all to himself while the rest of the cast is crammed on the bottom). When Robin Williams saw the ad campaign, he was ticked off because he felt that the focus should be on Aladdin since it's his film and not on the fact that he (Robin Williams) contributes a voice to a sidekick. Robin then refused to have anything to do with the film in terms of epk stuff and voicing other things (such as the talking Genie doll). This is why Williams is not in the sequel The Return of Jafar. Disney then appeased him by promising that on all artwork for Aladdin, the Genie would not take up more than 25% of the frame. He's kinda pushing 25% on the Aladdin DVD cover it seems...

That's kind of funny rule... I didn't know there were rules for this kind of art making, rats, rules are everywhere...

Ewwww! I hated the "art review" on the FN DVD! I like the virtual galleries MUCH better!

I hope a huge section of the DVD talks about the early concept for Aladdin, with early animation and concept images and storyboards, cause that would be really cool and interesting.

As for the Making Of, I am looking forward to this. I imagine it will be exactly like the Lumiere/Cogsworth section of BATB DVD, like someone stated. And the galleries will probably be included in there somewhere, like with BATB.

I am so for the Genie Rule, and respect Robin Williams for it, because it really is Aladdin's movie and it just pisses me off when people can't remeber that and they just go on and on about the Genie... Anyway, I think Robin Williams' beef with Disney was not over the artwork but rather, an advertising stint that disney pulled that really made him mad, they used his voice and Genie animation I believe to sell something... or something, I don't really recall the actual thing, but it was some kind of advertising thing, not related to the movie....

Any way, this is one release I just can't wait for! I really hope we get some kind of R1 cover art soon, and a picture of the Gift Set!

i'm surprised that they are not including a feature on Aladdin, the musical that is currently playing at the Hyperion theatre at Disney California Adventure. clips from the live musical performance would have been nice as well as the information on the additional songs they added to the musical.

That was my reaction. Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular at California Adventure is the most elaborate stage show ever to be in a Disney Theme Park. Hopefully it will get some mention. Maybe Disneyland execs wills suggest it.

Too bad they didn't animated Too Be Free. It adds a lot to Jasmine's character.

The way they're advertising for the song "Proud of Your Boy", I get the feeling it'll be the only deleted song included on the DVD. It's a pity if they won't include more. And there were many more... They have been released on CD, however.

The press-release states "Aladdin" will be a limited edition release... Did "The Lion King" press-release also said that?

I think Limited Edition was used in promtions for The Lion King (but probably not the Press Release). The Collector's Set was definitely Limited.

However, as we all know, the Lion King is on the market for 2 years. The same will be true for Aladdin. (Which makes a mockery of the short availability of Sleeping Beauty really).
