Favourite Live-Action Sequence

Post by Flanger-Hanger »

Inspired by another thread, what are your favourite live action sequences from Disney films?

Here are mine:

Bedknobs and Broomsticks, when the armour first comes to life towards the end of the movie, when the articles of clothing march into Ms. Price's workroom. Just about anyhing involving Substitutiary Locomotion. (when the effects are working and when they are not)

The Black Hole, anything involving V.I.N.CENT or Maxamillion
(I just really like Roddy McDowall's voice...does anyone else?), When Reinheart slaps his forhead and the scene in the shooting gallery.

Summer Magic, Julia's arrival in Behula...and pretty much anything with her and Nacy interacting (I totally side with Nacy on all her fights, but Julia reminds me of Prudence for some reason..)

Newsies, simple, all the songs.

Hocus Pocus, EVERYTHING! (can you tell by my signature?) But I can't stand those bullies who pick on Max.

Pollyanna The Bizzar, and the ending with all the townsfolk saying goodbye to her...A perfect ending to such an amazing (and touching, one of the few times I can say this about a Disney film) movie.

Pete's Dragon, When Doc Terminus first comes into town.

The Happiest Millionaire, "Fortuosity" and "There Are Those".

The Watcher in the Woods when we see Karen's name for the first time. Always makes me laugh.

The Parent Trap (1961), can't think of it right now but I know I had one..

My ALL TIME favorite was in The Parent Trap(1961) when uhm...GAH! I forget her name. The one from Boston, cut her twin's dress! That was hilarious! And then she came back out and they she slapped her across the face! I just saw it again recentley and I was LOLing!

Hmm...some others...

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey: The scene where Sassy was floating down the river, that made me so sad...and the one where Chance sat on the porcupine! xD

Mary Poppins-The penguin scene! Definitly. Also,Chim-Chim-Cheeree(sp?) and the "Let's Go Fly a Kite" scene.

Hocus Pocus-That line where Kathy Nijimy's charector said something about that chocolate bar she was eating! I ALWAYS used to laugh hysterically at it and it wasn't even that funny. Also how Bette Middler's charector had that exrtremely weird set of front teeth and whenever she said something they would come out xD
And ANY seven with Binx! He was ADORABLE!!!!!!!

Pete's Dragon-Definitly "Candle in the Water" that song is beautiful and was sung very well.

That's all for now!

I agree about Newsies and Hocus Pocus. Actually, I even like the bullies in Hocus Pocus. They're annoying and you want to beat them up, but they still make me laugh, especially when they first encounter the witches.

Other faves of mine:

The scene between Bert and Mr. Banks in Mary Poppins. LOVE IT!

Happiest Millionaire is one of my favorite films, so I love the whole thing, but if I had to pick anything, probably the "Let's Have a Drink" scene, off the top of my head.

Of course, the Bazzar bit in Pollyanna is wonderful, and I also love her scenes when she's teaching people the error of their ways, like the preacher. Love his scene in church when he tells everyone to be at the bazzar or else!

Pete's Dragon: I pretty much love any Doc Terminus scenes, especially his musical numbers!

Treasure Island (this is another of my all time favorite films): I just love the whole thing I think. It's too hard to pick something, but I'm sure any favorite scene would involve Long John for sure, probably when he's dealing with his fellow pirates or being deceptive rather than when he is being an outright villain.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Another fave! I love the opening with young Elisabeth singing and meeting Will. It sets the mood so well, and I love the very ending of part 2, when Barbosa appears!

Darby O'Gill: Of course, the drinking song and the scene in the death coach, and most scenes with King Brian and cutie Katie really.

20,000 Leagues: Whale of a Tale and all of Kirk Douglas's scenes really.

And those are just a few...

I agree about Hocus Pocus, I love watching any part with the witches. One scene I've always loved is the "I Put A Spell On You" scene.

In Mary Poppins I've always loved the Jolly Holiday scene, as well as the Step In Time scene.

That's all I can think of for now though, I'll post later on when I think of more.

Mary Poppins - when Julie Andrews sings Feed the Birds, that whole scene is just amazing, as well as when Mary, Bert, Jane, and Michael climb the smoke stairs all the way to the highest point in London and look out and the music, it's just wow!

Pollyanna - it has to be that bazzar and Mrs. Snow has the preachers wife switch her fishing prize to the doll, and the reaction when she pulls the doll up. i'm a 25 yr old guy and i tear up ever time at that scene, as well as when she is carried down the stairs and sees everyone she has touched. Jane Wyman has just recently passed and I hate that she is never given any recognition for this film, it's one of the many great in her life as an actress.
I find you pompous, judgemental, and completely self-absorbed.........would you be my friend?

I think I forgot to mention "The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin" as yet another where I love pretty much every scene! Roddy McDowall it an absolute fave of mine.

Also, just got the 2-disc Old Yeller DVD new off Ebay, the one without Savage Sam and with DVD commentary. That movie is just entirely outstanding as well. Gotta love that scene where Kevin Corcoran trades his horny toad for Old Yeller, and when he's eating with the puppy from the same bowl of bread and milk. And that scene at the end with the talk between father and son totally puts me in tears even just remembering it now.

Well i finally got time to respond to this thread:

There are sooooooo many stunning scenes here, but I'll touch upon some of them:

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Well where do you start. This film is a visual masterpiece. The gorgeous matte paintings by Peter Ellenshaw pretty much steal the show. The cluttered masts at the docks, the mountain base. The above shot of the Nautilus surfacing inside the island is wonderful. Today's modern computer technology can't better that painting!
The squid fight, the underwater burial. The film is full of stunning sequences.

The Great Locmotive Chase
This film has some stunning chase scenes. I mean cinemascope really does this film justice. The shots of the chase down the tracks in simply stunning, daring, exhilirating, dangerous even. I mean filming people scrambling over a moving train in front of that wonderful scenery? Beautiful.

Darby O'Gill and the Little People
The scenes when Darby enters the mountain amidst the Leprechauns dancing are amazing. Again modern computers can not better the convincing camer trickery. The leprechauns on miniature horsback, circling Darby again is wonderful.
The use of perspective here is so masterfully done.

Swiss Family Robinson
The rescue of the animals from the shipwreck, the building of the treehouse, the fight with the pirates again practically every scene is wonderful.

Mary Poppins
The Chim Chim Cheree scene is beautiful. The painting of the London skyline are so detailed you'd swear it was a photo. The scene has an almost chilling, dark atmosphere to it, but still retains a magical feel to it.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks
The entire film is again visually stunning. The climax of the battling armour is brilliant.

The Black Hole
Again another cinemascope beauty of a film. Stunning sets and scenery, dark, foreboding yet with a sense of wonder and intrigue. It suits the entire films tone perfectly. The shots of the suns through the ships windows are amazing.

The Watcher in the Woods
As I pretty much *ranted* about in my thread for The Watcher in the Woods I find so much of the film stunningly filmed. The tension in so many scenes is amazing.

Tron
One of the most unique looking films of all time. I love the simple scenes of the backgrounds like when they drink from the scene as much as I love the scenes with the solar surfer.

Well maybe I'll post more later.

I can't believe I almost forgot this movie

Chronicles of Narnia

There's a few scenes I like from this movie

The battle at the end.

Aslan unfreezing the statues in the White Witches castle

The entire Stone Table scene.

That's all I can think of for now since I haven't seen the movie in a while
