But hasn't Disney explicitly denied their film to have any tie with Kimba the White Lion. I believe the artists who worked on the film even said that they'd never heard of Kimba. Could Disney's The Lion King just be coincidentally similar to Kimba?
Yeah and because Disney have always chosen to be more honest then Pinocchio we should believe them?
Kimba was not just in Japan, it was aired here in the USA for a couple of decades as Kimba and Leo, the White Lion. So Disney can deny all they want. I am sorry, but there are WAY too many similarities between the two to call them "coincidences". Stampede, father's death and subsequent ghost, uncle has a black mane and a scar, the "throne" for the king is a huge rock formation, I mean, come on. You can't really believe that Disney didn't steal some ideas there.
And the artists didn't write the story! So people keep saying, that the artists don't know about Kimba....again, hogwash. Let's put it this way....Hello Kitty is Japan's Mickey Mouse. While Kimba was probably their Bugs Bunny. Not AS famous, but still well known from the 70s and on. It was aired in the USA, at the same time future Disney writers and artists were probably kids, so for them to say they don't know, we ought to have seen their noses growing. I am 28, Kimba was before my time and I knew about him when I was 5 years old, before I know was anime and dubbing was about. You can claim Disney is that damn stupid all you want, but I will not be insulted as to someone insist to me that it was all a coincidence.
And that's not to say I don't like Lion King. I like Lion King more than Kimba actually. But I won't pull the wool over my eyes and pretend Disney was actually being original when they came up with it.
