Post by REINIER »

Hi,

which ''city'' setting in a disney movie has been your personal favorite.

Is it

a) Paris (ratatouille, 101 dalmatians (if i can rememeber correctly!)
Aristocats

b) NY City ( oliver & company)

c) London (the great Mouse detective)

d) anything else you can come up with!

Does Pinocchio's village count? Brilliant work by Gustaf Tenggren, Albert Hurter and Claude Coats. It's got such character in it - though very warm and welcoming, it's a place where danger lurks around the corners. Gepetto's Workshop is one of the most cosy, welcoming locations in any movie - just watching those scenes where they're tucking in is like snuggling up yourself.

London (and Suffolk, and other bits and pieces of England) are perfectly realised in 101 Dalmatians. There's that great Ronald Searle quality to the linework that compliments the design and animation of the characters, and Walt Peregoy's colour styling somehow makes it uniquely English.

I've been hearing great things about Ratatouille ('greatest animated film since Pinocchio' was one of them!), but it's not out in this country yet. I may well add it's depiction of Paris to my list once I've seen it!

There's also Oliver & Company in NYC, Pocahontas II in London, Finding Nemo in Sydney, and there is a bit of Atlantis in Washington DC. You don't really see much of DC though...

Oh and Beijing/The Forbidden City in Mulan
