The Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention

Post by Ray Pointer »

Just a reminder that for those of you on the east coast, The Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention is the end of this week, September 13 through the 15th at The Clarion Hotel in Aberdeen, Maryland. Among the events scheduled are JFK Aaaasination News Coverage, a James Bond Retrospective, a history of Pulp Magazines, Radio and TV broadcasts of SUPERMAN, a tribute to HAWAII FIVE-O, vintage Cliffhanger serials, and of course classic cartoons. The highlight of the convention will be an hour program we produced featuring the earliest ALICE COMEDIES. Virginia Davis McGhee will be there in person to talk about working for Walt Disney at the start of his career.

The ALICE COMEDIES on the program include:

ALICE'S WONDERLAND
ALICE'S DAY AT SEA
ALICE'S WILD WEST SHOW
ALICE'S FISHY STORY
ALICE AND THE DOG CATCHER

Welcome Ray. You probably know me as JimmyJackJunior on other boards. Although it may say Newbie beside his name Ray knows more about animation that anybody on this Board(or maybe any other).

He has produced two fantastic DVD's from Walt Disney's early work. These are the Legendary Laugh O Grams and Alice in Cartoonland. Both are excellent and are must haves for any Disney animation fans.

They can be ordered here.

Newbie

Post by Ray Pointer »

Thanks Jackie Toad! Actually, I am not a newbie here. I have posted several times in the past. I just don't post here that often. Only when I have something Disney related since my activities cover all aspects of animation. So I am definately not a "newbie." Thank you for pointing that out.

Ray, I tried to email you through the address on your website but it got bounced back. Anyway, I was thinking about attending the show... will you be there selling your DVDs?

Sorry so many people are having trouble with the website E-mail address.
It doesn't seem to stop other mail such as solicitations from coming through, however. If you wish to contact me, you can through a PM.

As for the convention, I will not be there since I am meeting with Jerry Beck about an upcoming DVD project involving my commentary, to be recorded later this week. There will be a plug for Inkwell Images, but no DVDs from me on sale this time around. However, anyone intersted can go to the website and see a sample and order ALICE IN CARTOONLAND if they wish. Understand that the selection as described above is a special assortment made especially for this event, and is not the program currently available.

Maerj - I just received the revised Alice in Cartoonland and Laugh O Grams a couple of weeks ago and they were both wonderful. I totally recommend them.

Luke - I sent you an email last week asking if I could do a review for both of them. Did you get it?

What a day!

Post by Maerj »

Well, I wanted to attend the convention to see Virginia Davis, of course. The show started on Thursday, then Friday. Well, I work and couldn't get there for it then so today was the only day that I could go. Only one problem with that, my wife's sister's wedding was today.

So, I went to the wedding, which was done by 1 PM. The reception started then and I took off. Its a 2 hour drive to the convention from where I was and they were going to be done by around 3 PM. Shelly called the convention before we went to the wedding tho and told them the situation. They said to come on down and if the convention was over, they'd still get Virginia Davis for me for a one on one meeting! Wow!

So, I made it to the convention in an hour and 40 minutes, which is making really good time. I walked in and they started saying that the convention was almost over. I told them I was just there for Virginia Davis and they said "You're the guy coming from the wedding! You're on a mission, don't worry about paying to get in just go!" They even had a guy take me right to Ms. Davis! I mentioned that I just got there from a wedding to them and they said "Oh, we were wondering when you were going to show up." Guess word got around? lol

Anyway, she was a very sweet lady. We talked about other shows she did and I even saw her have a little fun with her adult daughter. At one point, Virginia winked at me then looked at her daughter and said, "California... thats on the East Coast isn't it?" Her daughter said "No Mom, its on the West." She looked really annoyed but I couldn't help but laugh because I knew Virginia was having fun with her.

Anyway, here is what I got signed:
