So. Lately I have seriosuly started to dislike a certain guy called "Tristan B". He is a local singer, and has incredibly broken into the international music scene. You must understand that Malta is a small country, with limited opportunities. The problem is that there is a lot of musical talent, but few people are lucky enough to be heard of outside our shores.
Tristan B has, however, struck gold. He has signed a contract with an Italian music label and has performed in many places worldwide, including Europe and the US. Quite remarkable for a Maltese guy.
The problem?
Tristan B is a talentless asshole.
He claims to be a professional singer, but on hearing him, he doesn't sound to me more than an amateurish wannabe, who thinks he knows how to sing. He has no feel. He is not artistic. You need not have any musical knowledge or be an expert to realize that the guy is a fraud. He has been apparently pushed into the limelight by other people. It brings tears to the eyes to hear him singing in his childish, immature voice - lacking skill and physical and emotional depth - and seeing him enjoying such a successful career - singing on the side of notable international stars.
Of course, the people who are really talented don't get so lucky. Maltese singers like Nadine Axisa or Karen Polidano, who are haunting to listen to, will likely remain restrained to the local music scene. Even other Maltese singers like Fabrizio Faniello, Ira Losco and Chiara, who did make an impact overseas, don't seem to have been as lucky as this Tristan B. Previously unknown ... suddenly an international star. From zero to masquerading hero.
Check out his site. You can hear a couple of songs while it loads and see how bad he really is:
