A clean sweep of non-contributing users....

Post by Prince Phillip »

Luke- I think you should delete all the users that never post or that have been users for a long post but are still labeled "newbie".

The best way to go about this, IMO, is to make a sticky post in General Disscussion, or send out an e-mail to all users stating that if they have been a users for so many months and have not posted more the 3 times or something that they will be deleted from the member list, with the option to join again in the future, given they will contribute with thoughtful posts or something...

Granted this is all up to you but there are a ton of people who joined some as far back as April of last year and still have not posted once!!!! That's not to say they don't stop by the forum every once in a while to check things out, but to be fair, you don't have to be a member to do that...

Any I suggest setting a deadline, for those members who think their introuble of being deleted to contact you, or else they will be deleted. People who may have joined but never came back won't care and they won't be taking up needless space....

Something else to be taken into consideration would be archiving or deleting old or duplicate postings, which there are a lot of, since newer members don't always look back that far and wind up posting things that have already been disscussed.

Anyway, just thought I'd bring that up. :)

An even better idea would be to take users who used half of their posts just to artificially pump up their post counts and delete them. That would save tons of bandwidth!

Or delete (or archive) all old posts on a yearly basis?

I think that the sugestion from Maerj are the best here, since I do not belive a "sleeping" user are taking up any bandwith.

Thanks for the suggestion. Forum cleanup will have to be done and probably sometime soon, to save disk space.
