I went to Best Buy tonight to buy a new DVD, "From Beyond." This is a horror movie that I've been looking forward to coming out on DVD for a long time. I also had a $5 off cupon from the Reward Zone card so it made sense to go there to get it. Right?
Wrong.
I found one copy of it on the shelf. I picked it up and it was very obviously a floater. I heard not only the disc but bits of the spindle floating around inside the case. I was disappointed but decided to ask a salesperson if they could check for another copy. We gave them the damaged one so that they could take it off of the sales floor. After waiting a short time they provided a copy from the stockroom. Hurray!
We were driving down the road and I decided to open the disc, I've been waiting for this DVD for a long time! I notice the remains of one of their pink return stickers on the back. I take the plastic off and the disc smells funny. I open it up and their are scratches on back of the DVD. Yes, it was a return!
So, we went right back to the store to exchange the disc. We show it to the girl working at Customer Service and she agrees that it appears to be a return. She finds one other copy on the sales floor... the damaged one we found in the first place! She was a little surprised.
So, I got my money back and no other store in that area had the disc. I know I could get it online, but I wanted it tonight. I may go out tomorrow night and try to find it elsewhere. I just wanted to let everyone know about this as I know that Best Buy has been in trouble before for selling used merchandise and apparently they still are.

I'm so sorry to hear about your bad experience.
I can honestly say that I've only had one bad experience in a Best Buy, and it was an isolated incident. The guy was in Customer Service, and he must have been having a bad life, because he was being rude to everyone. I noticed that he doesn't work there, anymore.
If I were you, I would contact Best Buy at their toll-free #, and report the incident. My experience is that Best Buy will always try to make the customer happy.
Let me know if you do, and let us all know what the outcome is.

My brother is a Best Buy manager and I know that they would prefer that you call their customer service number to report the incident. As MM1 says, they will go out of their way to make you a happy customer. It only takes a few minutes, and could mean that you might get a copy of your movie without having to give up your $5 gift certificate. Incidents such as your are not common, and when they do happen they do want to know. Customer service comes first with Best Buy.

The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!

I had a pretty bad experience with the Geek Squad service at Best Buy. I once took my computer in to get it restored there, and believe me, I will never do that again. I brought it in, paid the fee, and returned a day later to pick it up; all was well until I took the computer home. After hooking it up, I discovered that they didn't just restore my computer, they completely removed my hard drive and added someone else's by mistake. There were tons of pictures and files that I had never seen before and all of mine were gone. I figured this was no big deal and that I could just take it back in and they would fix it. So that's what I did. After pointing out the problem, they tried to tell me that I was mistaken and that all of the files on the computer were, indeed, mine. After telling them over and over again that they wrong, I finally got them to fix the problem, but they said it would take at least 24 hours. So I went home, in an extremely frustrated mood, and waited it out. The next day I returned the store and they tried to charge me $60 for their mistake. I was ticked! After speaking to the manager, the problem was resolved, but all was not forgotten. I'm still a Best Buy shopper, but I will never again use their Geek Squad service.

I've had a similar experience to that. Once I bought a video card from Best Buy. I took it home to install it and noticed that it looked opened (The book was not bagged, and the shrink wrap on the box felt odd.). The card didn't work so I returned it to get a new one. The other one was sealed and had the companies logo on the shrink wrap. It was obvious that Best Buy had just resealed the card and put it back on the shelf after a return. I should have checked for this, but I didn't think they would put a "used" card back on the shelf. Anyway the new card worked great, but later that week at the store I noticed that the card I returned was once again back on the shelf.
This was several years ago, so I'm not sure how they are now. I usually go to Circuit City since I find it a more relaxed shopping environment.
I've never used the Geek Squad, but I've heard some bad things. Personally I think their prices are extremely high for the stuff they do. You would probably have a better experience, not to mention cheaper, going to a local computer repair shop.

OUCH! If all they did was swap the hard drives, and not reformat them it should have taken like less than a half hour to put your drive back into your computer.Prince Ali wrote:I had a pretty bad experience with the Geek Squad service at Best Buy. Well, I just got off the phone with their customer service, ya know, the 888-Best-Buy number.
I told the rep the story and she was very quiet and attentive, I actually asked if she was still there and she said yes. So, I finished the story and she about the bad experience. The rep said that there is a 3 day period where someone can return a DVD unopened. The one I bought had the pink return sticker on the DVD case itself though, NOT on the shrinkwrap on the outside. So that means that it was in fact opened.
So, they don't seem to be interested in doing anything about it. Guess I'll pick up the movie elsewhere.
P.S. Maybe I should have called this thread "Best Buy-er Beware!"

For christmas a couple of years ago I recieved a Tivo DVR Reciever that my parents had purchased from Best Buy and when I tried to hook it up I had discovered that it was used and it didn't work right so I took it back to exchange it and they no longer carried that model, so I had to get a different one.
