What do you think will replace the Platinum Edition? And When?
I doubt HD sales will be as high as DVD by 2009 or 2010 so I think Disney might release the DVD and Blu-Ray simultaneously along side each other.
Some groovy titles maybe? Ultimate Edition? Your-not-going-to-manage-to-sell-this-for-big-bucks-in-5-years-time-because-were-going -Blu-Ray-only Edition?

Re: After the Platinum Era
I think that there's enough people missing the early Platinum releases on DVD, that they could release them again on DVD without any changes (but I'm sure they will add a new game or two anyway).yamiiguy wrote:What do you think will replace the Platinum Edition? And When?

Wait, they're keeping the old feauters? but why?.2099net wrote:(but I'm sure they will add a new game or two anyway).

I'm just guessing, but
[a] there's only so much archive material Disney can scrape together
there's a heck of a lot of people who missed Snow White, Beauty and the Beast etc, and would be happy to pay to get the same disc.

Beauty & the Beast could sure use a lot more work on historical content for the reissue. All the platinums could in fact but some need more than others. Here's my suggestions:
Snow White - Include more animator interviews. We didn't really get anything more than a Frank and Ollie blurb and we know they exist because we've seen them in the 70's, the 1987 rerelease, and the 1993 rerelease. These should be included on the DVD reissue. I'd also like to see the 1987 Dick van Dyke special and the 1993 reissue making of. Also throw in more radio shows that can be easily had elsewhere and were on the LD release. And how about song demos for unused songs and if the actual recording doesn't exist let's recreate it. You know that the sheet music for most of these lost songs are in the Disney archive. Then Snow White would be perfect without a single new thing to be added unless they ad a comics gallery with all that artwork as well.
Beauty & the Beast - Fix the issues, give us the real 1991 version and the real work in progress version. Let's get animation tests, storyboards, IN DEPTH film makerinterviews, a REAL retrospective on Howard Ashman, song demos, vintage clips of behind the scenes stuff, etc, etc. Also include the 1991 making of, the 1994 Broadway making of, and a section on the Broadway show. I was VERY disappointed in what we actually got with Beauty after the greatness of Snow White, Fantasia, and Atlantis.
Lion King - Apply all I said about Beauty...
Aladdin - Ditto (although the best of the more recent films) and include the storyboarded original concept. We know it exists so let's see the whole shabang and just how bad it really was. Disney has a unique opportunity here to show us an entire film that never was and could have been. Do you know how much PR they would get by being the first out of the gate with something like that? Also, I want to see the storyboards for all the song demos and the original ending.
Cinderella - Surely if all that archival material could be found for Snow White and Fantasia then Cinderella should have been no problem. What the hey? I also understand it that there are more interviews with the animators and film makers than what we saw. Also, stick John Cane Maker's documentary on this one and the radio shows. There are tons more than what we got.
Little Mermaid - Everything I said about Beauty. No excuse after Aladdin that this one is so sparse.
Sleeping Beauty - Everything I said about Cinderella plus 10.
Lady & the Tramp - Surely there is more in the archive...
Peter Pan - The Christmas show and the rest of the vintage materials
Alice in Wonderland - Get all of the stuff that was on the LD on this and I'd be happy (Even though it's not an official platinum it might as well be)
Have I missed anyone?
