The Spectacular Spider-Man
There's a new Spider-Man series coming early 2008,anyone heard of it?.
it's looks like a mix of the movie and Ultimate Spider-Man.
I don't like those Shows becouse it makes people think that those characters were created for Little children and they're definlty not (and Marvel or DC dosn't help make them think different, anyone noticed all the Spider-Man 3 Marchandise that was targeting for kids? those movie are voilence and are PG-13 and people dosn't understand that).

Spectacular Spider-Man
So did anybody but me catch the one hour premiere this weekend? The art style took some getting used to, but over all I was impressed.
It's being helmed by Greg Weisman, so fans of Gargoyles and season 2 of WITCH might want to check it out.
Also a lot of well known voice actors are in it including Josh Keaton, Lacey Chabet, Jeff Bennet, Dee Bradley baker, Kath Source, and a lot more. Crispin Freeman even showed up as Electro in the second epsiode.

Animation is just as bad as The Batman. Everything has to look like anime now I guess. Why couldnt Spider Man look like say...I dunno...how about Spiderman. Is that too much to ask?

The Spectacular Spider-Man wasn't as good as Spider-Man: The Animated Series back from the 1990's. I thought the artwork was horrible and the storyline seems kind of boring. Don't think I'll ever watch it again.
Too bad The Batman end it's run on Kids WB.

Did "The Batman" really end its run? Because they showed a premiere movie for it on the CW right after Spectacular Spider-Man premiered. I was on a trip and actually caught these shows in the hotel room of the Embassy Suites after free breakfast, ha. At home, I probably would have slept through it since I haven't felt Saturday morning TV was worth waking up for in some time (though I still catch it randomly, but usually just the DC comics stuff on CW).
I rather liked Spectacular Spider-Man. Yeah, it has the same look as "The Batman", but I don't think it's bad and he still looks like Spider-Man. Everyone was recognizable and I am eager to see more. I liked the look of the show/characters and found it more appealing than the show from the '90's which I never really watched but am familiar with to a certain extent. I never really liked the "look" of that show, though I suppose it looked more like the Marvel comics, but I never liked the look of Marvel comics that much either.
I'm normally a much bigger Batman fan than any other superhero, but I was turned off of "The Batman" the moment I saw how they changed Freeze (and didn't care for the design of Joker either). I've only watched that show randomly. Liked Batgirl, but I always like Batgirl, ha. Barbara Gordon Batgirl that is. Anyway, the movie they premiered involved the Justice League, and I liked it more than I usually like the "The Batman" show itself. Of course, since Batman and the Justice League and all that stuff have been done so well already with the previous stuff, it's a tough act to follow with this new stuff. I also caught some of Legion of Superheroes, which I enjoyed but am really lost with since I catch it so sporadically.

The reason Weisman went with the design he did, and not something more like the 90's series was he wanted a style that would move well even when produced quickly and on a budget. I'm okay with most of the characters (Gwen in particular is adorable), but I can see where people are coming from with the initial distaste for it.
But I think two episodes might be a little early to give a definative judgement on the entire season/series.

You ask wasn't it 'spectacular'? No, it wasn't. It wasn't good enough for me to watch it again. And whoever heard of anybody in the voice cast. No real stars there, but that animation is just too way out of the Disney league for me to even pay attention again!!

It's a children's cartoon show, so it's rather silly to think we'd hear Tobey Maguire voice Spider-Man. Much of the voice cast is well-known among voice cast circles, especially longtime actors such as Kath Soucie and Jeff Bennett. Just because their names aren't dropped as often as actors who we actually see on screens doesn't mean they're unknown.Bill wrote:And whoever heard of anybody in the voice cast. No real stars there,
And Disney fans may recognize Josh Keaton's (Peter/Spidey) voice as that of young Hercules for the Disney movie and animated series. And Irene Bedard (Jean DeWolff) was the speaking voice of Pocahontas.
Anyway, I haven't seen anything from "The Spectacular Spider-Main", mainly because I never really was interested in any incarnation of Spidey as a cartoon. But if it's as bad as the style of "The Batman" and "Teen Titans", I think I'll pass.

Yes, The Batman finish it's run on CW, but that wasn't a movie it was more like a one hour series finale. The name of the episode is called Lost Powers and no network will probably never re-air it ever again. Probably the best bet to see it is on DVD from The Batman Season Five set.Did "The Batman" really end its run? So this past Saturday's episode was called "Natural Selection" and focuses on Curt Connors transforming into The Lizard after using a formula made with reptile DNA to regrow his arm, and Peter having to make tough choices that end up biting him in the butt, culminating in him losing his internship at Connors' lab. At the end of the episode Peter has to decide between drinking a genetic cleanser and losing his powers, or staying Spider-Man. He makes the right choice, but doesn't dispose of the cleanser, meaning it could come back in a future episode.
There's some nice continuity moments: Peter's curfew, mention of Electro, the Daily Bugle offering prize money for pics of Spidey.
The cast is still great, and actually getting even better. Lacey Chabert, and especially Kath Soucie were great as Gwen and Mrs./Dr. Connors.

So, when I first started watching this series, it was a bit of a chore. I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan, the animation wasn't spectacular (no pun intended), and I was a bit lost in continuity (I had never heard of Eddie Brock before). But, the series has been growing on me. I'm warming up to the animation style, and I prefer it to the 90s Spider-Man. The storylines have been warming up, and since yesterday's episode I am hooked. Such a good episode! Anyway, I deem this a good series. When it first premiered I wasn't sure. But now that the storylines have developed and I'm more connected to the Spidey mythology, I can say for myself that this is a very good series.
Jeff Bennet has been in nearly 300 movies and tv shows.dvdjunkie wrote:And whoever heard of anybody in the voice cast. No real stars there
Let's compare that to a "real star", Tom Hanks, who has been in a about 60 movies/tv shows.
Numbers alone says if you are a fan of animation, you'd know many of those voice actors are REAL and popular. Just because you don't see their face on the red carpet or they don't have an Oscar, doesn't mean they are less important or bad actors.
