After what seems like forever, I've finished my Rocketeer ultimate DVD. I doubt they actually shot/kept enough vintage behind-the-scenes material to actually make this set happen, which is why I'm presenting it in two versions: the single-disc Realistic Cutdown (a.k.a. what Disney's more likely to do if they planned on releasing a live-action catalog movie that doesn't have the word "Pirates", "Narnia", or "Mary" in it.) and the four-disc Ultimate Edition (a.k.a. what I'm sure most fans of the movie would prefer).

<center>The Rocketeer: 20th Anniversary <strike>Special</strike> "It's The Flying Man!" Edition (2011)
(realistic cutdown)

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/a ... keteer.jpg" width="295" height="400" alt="The Rocketeer Original Theatrical Poster"></img> </center>

Disc One: The Rocketeer - Feature Film (108 minutes) and Bonus Materials (audio: 108 minutes, video: 80 minutes)

Technical Specifications:
2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen - Original Aspect Ratio - Digitally Restored and Remastered (Feature Film)
THX-Certified with Optimizer Tests
5.1 DTS-ES (English)
5.1 Dolby Digital EX (English, French, Spanish)
2.0 Dolby Surround (English Commentary)
Feature Subtitles (English, French, Spanish)
Closed Captioning for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (English)
Static 16:9 Menus with Background Music
40 Chapter Stops (Main Feature)

Main Feature: (1 hour, 48 minutes)
-The Rocketeer - The 1991 action/adventure film, now in anamorphic widescreen with only a minor remastering and restoration job.

Backstage Disney: (audio: 108 minutes, video: 70 minutes)
-Audio Commentary - with director Joe Johnston. It would have cost more to have anyone else, so it's just the director. (108 minutes)
-Excitement in the Air: The Making of The Rocketeer - the original TV documentary that aired June 19, 1991. A great way to save on filming a whole new documentary! (45 minutes)
-Origins of The Rocketeer - a short featurette that looks at the story and design of the original graphic novel by Dave Stevens. With as little effort as possible to bring in interview participants, but done anyway so there's at least one or two new extra featurettes. (10 minutes)
-Looks Like A Hood Ornament: The Flight of The Rocketeer - this surprisingly longer featurette takes a look at a few key visual effects sequences in the film, analyzing the work and progress for each shot and comparing it to the final product. Again, with as little effort as possible to bring in interview participants, but done anyway so there's at least one or two new extra featurettes. (15 minutes)
-<strike>Original Theatrical Trailer - 1991</strike> - like Disney will attach the trailer again. Hold on to the old non-anamorphic barebones DVD, Rocketeer fans! It still has the trailer, albeit in worse video quality than the movie, and horribly pan&scammed!

Deleted Scenes: (10 minutes)
-Deleted & Extended Scenes - only a short selection of deleted scenes, made simply to tout "NOW WITH DELETED SCENES!" on the cover, with no introductions or commentaries to help put place the scenes in context with the film. (6 minutes)
-Outtakes Reel - general goofiness and flubs from the cast. (4 minutes)

Sneak Peeks:
-A New Disney Movie: Coming to Theatres
-An Unnecessary Disney Sequel: Coming to Theatres
-A Recent Disney Movie: Silly-Banner Edition DVD and Blu-Ray
-A Not-So-Recent Disney Movie: The Double-Dip Edition DVD and Blu-Ray
-General Blu-Ray Promotion

Packaging and Print Materials:
-Black Amaray Case - with photoshopped artwork that will get criticized or praised by online Disney fans.

-DVD Guide - a two-page insert with chapter listings on one side and promotions for other movies on the other.

-Promotional Booklet - promoting other Disney DVDs and products!

-Disc Art - something transparent to make it harder for bootleggers to copy.

SRP $19.99

And now, the proper edition...

Poo. I like my version better.

Of course, all the meaty stuff could be covered in the "and much more" part, but I'm not holding my breath.

Monday, February 5, 2007:
"Doctor Gulley and the Dalmatians of Doom" has become "Happy the Dancing Elf of Phrooflington" and I don't care anymore.

Wednesday, March 21, 2007:
I hope I will not regret returning to this thread later on and that some people have learned their lesson. I hope that any future posts after mine will not contain anything remotely similar to descriptions and names for bonus features, packaging, banner names, etc. From now on, if any of my new descriptions or featurettes are copied and slightly modified for someone else's set, I will pull out once again, and simply ignore that user's messages on the boards. It's not my thread, but I'll ask Sequel to once again ask for it to be closed, to further prevent more acts of plagiarism.

Who knows? Peter Pan might be re-released in another 5 or 6 years and might have those extra features. I gaurantee it. Especially if it gets released in a Masterpiece Edition for the 60th anniversary. Anywhere I can see pictures from "The Walt Disney Christmas Show" and the Live Action References?

The Peter Pan 4-Disc DVD

Post by johndarlingfan25 »

Do you suppose that will be a real DVD someday. I hope so. I'm assuming in another 5 or 6 years when Peter Pan gets released again. It would be nice to see more bonus features and treats on the DVD.
