Walt Disney Treasures: Wave 7 DVDs Press Release

The only info on the Chronological Donald is that it is Volume 3 that is being released. I had emailed him on his earlier entry with the misinformation of stating Volume 4 - he replied that it was just a typo, it is Volume 3 being released this time.

I wish I knew more about what's going on in Donald 3. All it says is, the cartoons covered will be from 1947 to 1950. That means it will start chronologically with "Straight Shooters" (w/ Donald's three nephews) and end with "Out On a Limb" (w/ Chip 'n' Dale). So we know one thing: Chip 'n' Dale will appear in this set at last. And "Crazy With the Heat" and "Tea For Two Hundred" will probably appear in the now-obligatory "From the Vault" section.

What I would like to know is what kinda bonus features will be there? Here's some possibilities I'd like to see:

--Another TV episode (possibly "This Is Your Life, Donald Duck")
--An excerpt from "The Plausible Impossible" (the scene with the pencil drawing Donald and then Donald communicating with Walt)

Walt Disney Archives will actually be hosting a screening of it on the big screen on July 17 at the Studio lot in Burbank for DL's 52nd anniversary.

Just got back from the Walt Disney Studios, the film was great.

The screening was held at the Studio Theater next to the original Animation building. There was a small panel discussion with Tony Baxter, Dave Smith and two other guys who were responsible for the restoration of the film.

Anyway, the film looked really really good: it was screened digitally with 5.1 Surround (it was limited though) and I loved seeing so much of the park duing it's first year.

They played it again in it's original film form with mono sound afterward, but I couldn't stay.

Tony also said that the Disneyland DVD this winter would of course have the two hour 50th documentary that has been "maturing" over these years, the "Disneyland USA" Peoples and Places featurette...and about 45 minutes of raw footage of Disneyland under construction from recently discovered footage.

It was really a fun event.

I was also there for the screening. It is exciting to see that this film will be released to the public - all hardcore park fans will be in love with this film. Perhaps we can meet up at one of the Archive's future screenings, Dizfan. I am always interested in meeting fellow UDers.

I don't really care for excerpts. I only like entire programs, but not if I already have them on another DVD. I'm not sure, has Plausible Impossible been released (in its entirety) in a past Treasures set already? Or perhaps with a Disney feature? I have all the Treasures, but some I haven't had a chance to watch yet, and I still need a lot of the live-action Disney releases, including 2-disc ones. Got a lot of catching up to do, but money is still tight.

Anywho, I agree about "This Is Your Life, Donald Duck." I'm anxious to get that one and "Your Host, Donald Duck" in sets as extras, and I'm hoping we'll see one each on the next two Donald sets. I also wish they'd find room to squeeze in "Scrooge McDuck and Money" as an extra. It's a shame the DuckTales sets don't have extras, because they could fit it in there along with "Soccermania" as well.

I definitely would like that also, but I think they could easily devote a whole set to Ludwig Von Drake, or even something separate from the Treasures. Some sort of "Wonderful World of Color" Season 1 or Volume 1 or something would be a nice thing to see released.

Yes, the rarities is one of my favorite sets and that's one of the best things on there!

Oh yeah, I've thought of another possibility. Something called "A Tale of Two Jacks", which is a featurette on two of the many directors of Donald cartoons, both named Jack; one named Jack King and the other named Jack Hannah. Maltin could compare and contrast their approaches to the duck.

And the Plausible Impossible scene could be called something like: "Donald's Cartoon Physics".

And let's not forget a look at Three Caballeros and Saludos Amigos, which they should've put on the second volume, since they were released during the time range covered on that DVD.

Again, what do you think?

Well, I still would rather see whole programs rather than excerpts, and I guess I already have Plausible Impossible and really don't want them to waste space with clips from it. My strongest vote definitely goes to "Your Host" and "This is Your Life." For extras, I'd like to see "Scrooge McDuck and Money" and the Chip N Dale toons, and anything else appropriate. Any documentaries are welcome, as is ANYTHING that hasn't been released on DVD before, though preferably not excerpts. But, Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros I would prefer to see in their own set. I already own them, but I'd prefer unaltered versions of them and Make Mine Music and Melody Time. I don't know if they could get all four of those in one set (or just the ones that were previously altered, this time unchanged), but it'd be great! (that and a Song of the South/So Dear To My Heart set)

Thats actually disappointing. I was hoping we would see all the Peoples and Places as a set and this might decrease the chances of that happening.

...because, after all, Disney would be reluctant to double dip.

Actually, I too hope that the "People and Places" series will someday see the light of day on DVD. Now that the TLAs have been released, this set would be a nice companion set. Of the short films, the P&P films comprise the bulk of the unreleased material. If they ever did release them, the only Walt-era films left would be most of the existing pre-Mickey shorts, several of the more recent live-action shorts, and the few remaining full-length films.

Any reason why "Ozwald" will have a gold tin? Will there be less of this set released than any other? Or will it only be available for around 90 days? (Bambi II, anyone?) Honestly, Ozwald is the only one I will be purchasing...I love the B/W Disney cartoons, Silly Symphonies and Rarities far more than Donald/Goofy/Pluto shorts. (I know, blasphemy on this board.. ) Although I might get the Mickey Mouse (b&w) volumes sometime in the future...who knows.
