Sadly, so was I. Kram and Jane took the remote for our nice big screen tv early in the evening, so while I wanted to watch "Doctor Who" and "Flash Gordon" at 8 and 9, respectively, I got stuck watching High School Musical 2. I couldn't exactly go to another TV with cable in our house since we've got like...5 tvs, but only 2 with cable (and the other one was in my parents' room, where my mom was asleep, so I couldn't watch in there).

Sharpay! One of the few things I like about the HSM-iverse is that her name is Dory-speak for Sharpie markers!

Ditto. Then again, Ryan and Sharpay are really the only things I like about HSM.

Maybe that's why I was tolerable of the second one more than the first. The less of Vanessa, the better the movie.

Interesting. While I expected the Blu-ray to be in widescreen, I wonder what that means for the DVD (which is likely the format of choice for the majority of tweens and the like who will want the movie). Will it be in widescreen as well, or will Disney continue to do a minor p&s hackjob just to get rid of the black bars?

Oh bummer, yeah my sister likes to parade around and take the remote from me too when she's home...sadly in my case the remote just so happen to get stuck on the Disney Channel when HSM2 came on(I'm not serious, but I just got sucked into watching it.)

Haha  I'm off to buy some Sharpay markers. There's probably like an entire list of words we can come up with that are pronounced Dory inspired "Herculays" Snow Whitay"

Yeah they do give the film that extra needed zest lol.

Okay so she's not that great of an actress nor singer, but she's fun to look at lol.

Yeah I don't get that either, I think Ashley is pretty and attractive, but I think Vanessa is hotter..maybe it is a brunette thing lol
rs_milo_whatever wrote: oh and ashley is actually a brunette
She is? That's cool, I can't really imagine her as a brunette though. Thanks for showing me where Miley was by the way, I probably would have never noticed her there lol.

OK, I caved in and I FINALLY saw both High School Musical movies with my 13 year old nephew. First of all, he LOVED it to death. He loved nearly all of the songs and was captivated by the stories. So clearly, HSM has something that appeals to tweens and teens like crazy.

As for me, I thought the movies were cute pieces of fluff, good babysitting material but with clear flaws. In the first HSM I was EXTREMELY annoyed at the "OMG Troy is going to sing the team is teh doomed!" crap. Maybe this is normal in some high schools but I thought that was completely unrealistic and annoying. I mean, who says that a student can't sing in a musical and participate in other activities? In fact, the movie clearly showed that both Troy and Gabriella were failing when they were denied the opportunity to do what they wanted to like. Its a good thing the characters realize the error of their ways, but it still annoys me.

The story in HSM 2 was a tad better, but very fluffy and almost forgettable.

The music was cute. I think the first movie had better music, the second movie's soundtrack I felt was too pop influenced. It lacked the variety of the first movie.

So overall, fun movies but way to exaggerated success.

I actually find that to be very realistic. In 6th grade, one of the "popular" girls asked me to sit at their table (maybe she wanted to evaluate me), so I did that day. I can't say that my friends were happy about it- I was hanging out with another clique. That was the only day I did that (talk about an awkward lunch). So, especially in middle school and younger high school years, cliques can be a big deal when someone crosses the line into another one.
