I think Sleeping Beauty will also be released in the Platinum line on DVD. HD DVD and Blu-ray are very little of the total movie sales right now. It will continue to grow into 2008, but neither format will be widespread by then. Maybe in a few years.
The reason several Warner movies were HD DVD only at first was because of the IME stuff. I think once the new Blu-ray spec is finalized in Oct/Nov and new players are released you will see more of these titles coming over to Blu-ray.
I still think both formats are going to survive for awhile. Both sides are looking good for the end of 2007.

yeah,i think it will be on a normal DVD too becouse the Platinum Edition are their "crowing jewelers" as they call it so they'll want everyone to buy it and more have normal DVD then Blu-ray.DarthPrime wrote:I think Sleeping Beauty will also be released in the Platinum line on DVD. I think it is cool that Disney beginning to release their films on both DVD and Blu-Ray, and even going back to release some of the classics on Blu Ray now. However, I think Disney is putting all their eggs into one basket and hoping that Blu-Ray will be the next big thing. I think there are a lot of people out there, myself included, not willing to upgrade until it is clear if Blu Ray, Hi Def DVD, or some other competator will be the next big thing. Also, if Disney has high hopes for Blu Ray, good for them, but DVD's are still what MOST people have (they aren't like VHS's which have been for the most part completely phased out - Blu Ray is simply not that popular yet!). I think it is incredibley lame that we are getting less than par DVD releases. Outside of the Platinum Edition line, it has been quite a while since we last saw a good 2-Disc DVD release. For many of the recent releases such as "The Fox and the Hound" or "Robin Hood" a single disc edition is probably efficient, however I, along with many other UD memebers, and completely irritated by the fact that "Cars" and the upcoming "Ratatouille" release will only be once disc. Films like these are definately deserving of a double disc release, just like all the other Disney/Pixar films recieved. I guess all I'm asking is that Disney not forget about all of us who still use DVD's (most people) while trying to transfer towards a new trend of DVD.

Disney has confirmed that is incorrect though. Jungle Book will not be on Blu Ray, Sleeping Beauty will be the first animated classic on Blu Ray.potterrules93 wrote:jungle book was also announced for blu ray on october 2 http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=408 i dont know if its this year ir next

Wow! That is great news! "Sleeping Beauty" will be the first Disney animated film to be release on a Blu-Ray format next year. This will be another one of the Platinum Edition series of DVD's. The last time that "Sleeping Beauty" was on DVD was back in 2004 or 2005, but it's still out of print, but I couldn't get it. "Sleeping Beauty" will be on both DVD and Blu-Ray next year. I don't have a Blu-Ray player for that, but my brother has a PS3 gaming console with a built-in Blu-Ray player. The following Platinum Editions including "Fantasia" and "Pinocchio" which will be schedule for 2009 as a PE.

I know that, I got a question, does "Sleeping Beauty" is going to have the new logo than the old one? I remember when "Sleeping Beauty" that I have in the "Masterpiece" edition VHS tape, they did have the old logo.DarthPrime wrote:I think Sleeping Beauty will also be released in the Platinum line on DVD. As for next year, "Sleeping Beauty" will be the first to have the new logo introduction just like "Pirates 2 & 3", "Underdog", "Meet the Robinsons" and others.
I guess "The Jungle Book" will be the last movie to have the old logo on the Platinum Edition DVD until next month.
Is that true? I guess it is pure speculation.

I was under the impression that the old films will retain the old logo, but maybe I'm wrong?
I have no idea what to do now. I don't have a blu-ray player and i probably wont for a while, but my favorite Disney movie ever (Sleeping Beauty) is making the leap. Now I can't decide if i'm going to get the DVD, the Blu-ray, or both!
I also can't tell if I should be upset by this or not... AUGH! Thanks a lot Disney! You jerks!

Wow Sleeping Beauty on HD would be absolutley gorgeous, it was also beautiful with normal DVD, imagine what it would be like this time !
I hope Snow White, Fantasia, and Beauty and the Beast all get an HD transfer soon, they'd look great too. Alice in Wonderland would need a good release on Blu-ray next year too, the brightness and colours would be ideal for an HD release.

I know that, I don't have a blu-ray player too. The Playstation 3 also has a built-in Blu-ray player so you can watch movies on a blu-ray disc. I have the DVD player, but I hope I should get the Blu-ray player anytime soon for the PS3. My brother still has the PS3 console.singerguy04 wrote:I was under the impression that the old films will retain the old logo, but maybe I'm wrong?

"Fantasia" is gonna re-release on DVD as a Platinum Edition and for the first time in blu-ray by 2009.
As I said on the other thread, "Fantasia" will wait for two years until the Platinum Edition DVD and blu-ray comes out.
I have the VHS tape and the soundtrack on both CD and the original vinyl from 1957.
For 2009, "Fantasia" will be out on DVD as a Platinum Edition.
I'm not really sure if "Sleeping Beauty" will have either the new logo or the old one. Will have to wait and see if it comes out next year.
