Lip synching probs?

Post by EricMontreal22 »

This is just a random vague question--My cousin a while back told me she thought the lip synching on the Little Mermaid DVD (new edition) was ever so slightly off. I didn't notice but haven't checked yet but I knwo I have found this VERY rarely but every so often with DVDs--does anyone notice this with any Disney DVDs or are there any known to suffer from this?

One Bunea Vista release I swear it's a problem on is the Season 1 release of the TV show Once and Again which I own--I can't quit eplace it but I think it's just *slightly* off--enough to feel a bit odd. But I tend to be crazy about this kinda thing ;)

I have noticed this with Aladdin.

The video edition is completely different from the dvd version.
The whole "sound track" is moved forward a bit.

You can best see this in the scene "A whole new world" when Jasmine begins to sing.

sound sync

Post by kurtadisneyite »

It is very common to have sound slightly off sync.

In duplication situations, electronics can slightly shift sound. Do it enough times within a transfer or dupe process and the sound can drift by several frames. It can be corrected.

In some cases, the sound is deliberately off sync to help give it a stronger impact. Also, Animators would eliminate or simplify mouth shapes to make the animation more straightforward, and to keep the character from having an overly busy mouth (Sleeping Beauty's Aurora is a prime example).

In some limited animation, especially Anime, there might be only two or three mouth shapes per character pose.

Well my cousin watches even more aniem than me, so I doubt that's what she meant (with anime I'm amused hwo often the ENglish dubbers worry about the lip synching more than the Japanese did)
