HSM widescreen version anywhere?

Was High School Musical ever released in widescreen? What is the difference between the blue dvd version and the red dvd version?

It has aired in a few international markets in widescreen, even in high definition on the UK's BBC, but does not appear to have been physically released in this manner at all yet. Perhaps when Blu-Ray (or HD DVD) is more viable...

Hmm. Though I am weary of yet another HSM DVD release, I have not bought either previous one (I just finally watched it in full a couple of weeks ago) and hope that if the original comes to Blu-ray, there will be a corresponding standard-def release of the widescreen version. Perhaps a double pack with the sequel?
