Roseanne: The Complete 8th Season, not so complete!
I picked up Roseanne: The Complete 8th Season, at Best Buy (along with Season 4, as my free season). I came home, and read on the SitcomsOnline message forums that Season 8 has at least 1 edit. Apparently, in the very first episode, "Shower the People You Love with Stuff", it does not feature the original "tag", which was the two different Becky's in the send-up of the theme song to The Patty Duke Show. It has been confirmed by several other people that it's not there. I probably won't get around to watching the Season 8 set until next week. I am EXTREMELY disappointed. Why would they not include this? It's even shown in the syndicated airings?!

Brilliant!
Probably penny pinching over the Patty Duke music rights is the cause.
It's a shame because half the time, it's the bizarre, manic, odd happenings in the tags that are the funniest things and steal the whole episode.
Also 'When You Wish Upon a Star' is also missing from the DisneyWorld episode.
I'll live in hope that the Australian version is uncut, like the Australian Season 1 set was.

Yeah, this definitely sucks. Not that I can clearly recall the moment in question (which is sad). Hopefully, someone will try putting it on YouTube or something so that we can see it. If only they had just taken the music out or replaced it. But when it comes to buying music rights, those piece of sh*t companies can ask for thousands of dollars on just 1 usage of the song, even in the little bit you hear it in the episode and that's just too rich for Anchor Bay's blood. At least... after it got stuck between the ownership of IDT and Starz. I was honestly hoping that Starz would go the extra mile for Anchor Bay since they're still a big name company and all that. But I think as evidenced by their wretched treatment of the Masters of Horror season 2 DVD's (though, big points for those excellent covers), the program quality and disc programming are hitting all-time lows for Anchor Bay.

Rumours are the tag for the 'December Bride' episode is also missing.
On a slightly different subject, I wonder if this will be a bonus feature for season 9?

Roseanne Barr sex tape goes missing
Wednesday, August 8 2007, 12:04 BST
Roseanne Barr has offered a reward to anyone that can locate a sex tape of her that has gone missing.
The comedienne has fired an intern who she alleges stole the tape while working for her on her MySpace page.
Now Barr has put up a reward of £12,500 for its safe return, saying on her website: "One of the interns who was administering my MySpace page has been fired. He has stolen my private sex tape.
"I am offering $25,000 for its return, unless someone would like to distribute it - then I am willing to deal."
She has also claimed that the intern posted offensive messages on the social networking site and apologised, stating: "I write only at RoseanneWorld.com I apologise to all on MySpace who received the offensive bulletins. The matter has been handled."

Starz Home Entertainment explains about the edits on Season 8 and also mentions edits for Season 9 as well:

I understand their reasons, but, it still doesn't make me any happier.Anthony wrote:Starz Home Entertainment explains about the edits on Season 8 and also mentions edits for Season 9 as well:

I mean, it's weird that they get the rights to some stuff, but, on other things, they don't.
I hope that all producers are now making sure that, when getting the rights to use music in a television show, they are also getting the rights for the eventual video releases, so that this situation can be avoided. It's ridiculous that this is even an issue. I mean, they can show it the way it was originally aired on television as many times as they want, but, when it comes to the video releases, all of the sudden the rights holders want more money. GREED. That's all it is!

And it's also supposedly a crock of ****. The Milton Berle tag that has been removed apparantly has no music whatsoever in it!
To be honest I think the issue here is the buyout of Anchor Bay from Starz. There has been a general drop of quality in all releases since Starz bought out Anchor Bay.
I mean (aside from the slip up with Season One) Anchor Bay have brought up completely uncut episodes with every scene and piece of music in tact. Then all of a sudden the first official release from Starz is cut to buggery.
I mean penny pinching and cost cutting MUST be behind it.
I mean is there any other logical reason that in the past we have seen the Conners sitting around watching TV with theme tunes like "Bewitched" and "Bonanza" playing in the background. Now are we seriously expected to believe that the rights to those, but couldn't afford the theme from "The Patty Duke Show".
Also back in season 5 there was a lengthy performance of "Jailhouse Rock" in one of the tage. It was not related to the episode's story in any way and cut easily have been chopped without affecting the story or episode in any way. But it was left in there. Now Elvis songs are probably going to be amongst the most costly music rights there are! Now again Anchor Bay paid for the rights to "Jailhouse Rock", but now supposedly they couldn't get hold of "Meriily We Roll Along" .
Whatever!
