The Lion King 2: masterpiece or back to the drawingboard?

Post by REINIER »

Hi, i myself am a great fan of the lion king series.
Still i was rather dissapointed to see that it's sequels
(which would have made good money!) never reached cinema's
The result being that altough decent animated (with the exception of certain lion king 2 scenes) the story which in itself had great potential never really stuck with me.
Now I know this goes for many a sequel but
The Return of Jafar had a great story but lousy if not terrifying animation

Your thoughts?
When it comes to brains, I got the lion-share,
but when it comes to bruth strength, I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the gene pool

I believe at the time, Return of Jafar was animated in much the same way as the cartoon series for Aladdin. So that kind of explains the poor animation I believe, since it was sort of a jump start for the series, and I guess they didn't want to go all out? Not sure what the actual story is, thats just my best guess.

As for Lion King 2, I half like it. It seemed to be a tad too similar to the original. The one thing I didn't like is the continuity errors, for one Zira, Kovu, Vitani and Nuka (and all the other lions) in the "bad guy" group shouldn't even be around, since all the female lions joined Simba in the end of the first, and none were actually loyal to Scar. I would have preferred seeing the hyenas again instead of what we were given. I think they only used lions as the villains just so they could use one to become good again and continue the whole Circle of Life theme.

Absolutely! The continuity in itself is questionable.
Scar having that many offspring without Zira even being part of the original, it's simply :x
