Aww, that helmet looks nice. ^^
I can't wait to get my hands on the 2-disc set. However, I'm kind of worried if I should wait for a while to see if there's going to be an extended edition of the film. I wouldn't want to buy the same film twice. Well, I'll see how things go from here.
Although I was undecided at first whether to see the film or not, I went up to see it anyway, because it's been a while since there's been a film about the Battle of Thermopylae. I was aware of this adaptation's comic book origins, but in any case I ended up enjoying the film.
The visuals were quite breathtaking (particularly the battle shots), and I liked how the film wasn't all about action but actually had some story to back it up and how it mixed various storylines to form a coherent whole. The actors did a commendable job, particularly Gerard Butler who I originally thought wouldn't be able to act as Leonidas and yet he managed to impress me.
The score by Tyler Bates was quite touching at points and quite epic in other spots, but it was rather unfortunate that some of it was taken directly from Goldenthal's Titus score and only mixed a bit (and yet Bates claimed to have composed the stuff even though he just borrowed it). The music did fit in the scenes it was used in, so in that regard it served its purpose.
All in all 300 was an enjoyable film with some kickass and touching moments. Although it won't compare to the classics, it's a film worth seeing at least once.
